SHSU football couldn’t draw flies at a landfill covered in roadkill. FACTS
And yet SHSU, who can’t draw flies, was selected over Tarleton. What does that say about your football program, athletic dept. and school?
I’ll tell ya; it says CUSA leadership actually visited and saw through the lies and embellishments. That’s why you were passed five times over.
Tarleton could’ve raised its profile from anonymous status, brought in more money to the campus and community, and hosted brand-name opponents while being irrelevant in the FBS. Instead you get none of that while being just as irrelevant to the FCS landscape.
But ya, makes more sense to sit at the kiddie table with Western Georgia and Dixie State. Tarleton’s peers.
May the Southland have mercy on your Soul
You’re getting your panties in a bunch, over a school that still isn’t officiallyD1, has it gotten an invitation to CUSA? Maybe you should ask yourself what if Tarleton was a D1 member, would they have gotten the invitation over Sam Houston?
What lies are you talking about? Tarleton has broken ground on a new arena, invested heavily into athletics.
How long is this going to be a crutch/excuse for your school’s repeated candidacy and rejection for FBS invites? Tarleton State was a candidate in 2020 when CUSA was bleeding members and held meetings with conference HQ, as confirmed by ESPN’s Pete Thamel…
https://twitter.com/petethamel/status/14...87202?s=21
Six FCS school spots between two FBS leagues and an attempt at forcing your way in through lawsuits later, and Tarleton is still here with the newest crop of D2 move ups. No need for TSU fans to pretend it’s the preferred destination and crap all over the place TSU wanted to be just because they weren’t invited to the party.
Your repeated rejections aren’t based on your arbitrary divisional status, it’s based on Tarleton’s candidacy as an FBS school.
Hopefully in time, Tarleton will actually draw what they claim, or win National Championships in the FCS like, say, recent move ups Sam Houston and Delaware did to boost your candidacy. Until then, it’s all a mirage.
How long has SHSU and Delaware been D1 and FCS?
Precisely the point my friend. See ya in forty years… unless you want 250k to be Family Weekend fodder in Huntsvegas!

Also not aware of many FCS teams that host P4s. MTSU gets Duke in TN next year. Liberty hosts in-state VaTech in a couple. LaTech has H&Hs w/ Big 12 and ACC schools on future schedules. WKU hosted Indiana in 2021.
And the P4 “body bag” games? Your payout is double. Forget 500k, you’re looking at millions.
Even regional G5 opponents are more attractive than FCS schools. TXST, UTSA, Tulsa, Rice, Ark St. (all of whom have scheduled w/ new FBS teams) are sure to bring in more attention/fans than OOC games with, say, Southwest Baptist or Houston Christian.
The scheduling possibilities in FBS are endless. Anyone who’d rather stick around in a flimsy D2 callup fb-only conference and the dying WAC is trolling.

Good! Now go enjoy being a University that gets shuffled into obscurity.
Enjoy your FBS doormat status.
No one not even the students there care about their athletics.
Don’t take my word for it just look at their own self reported numbers. It’s a commuter school.
But Sammy please keep crowing because it’s all the PRESS the school is going to get.
Man. You got me. Sam Houston State has no fans. How’d you know. That’s it. I’ll have to wipe up my tears with our CFP payout money which is more than the entire UAC’s combined.
Enjoy your FCS doormat status.
You clueless clown! Tarleton was ranked in FCS and not even a full D1 school. Still in transition.
Doormat ?
You’re describing yourself in FBS. Let me know in forty years if y’all still have a football team to be ranked in FBS
Again, what place did SHSU FOOTBALL finish in the doormat FBS conference ? Your killing me.
Thanks for making me laugh so hard that I blew my drink across the room.

SHSU finished in first place in Conference USA…
since we’re just lying to make ourselves feel better.
Tarleton wasn’t ranked by either the STATS Poll or the Coaches Poll last season and never has been.

Yes. I will thoroughly enjoy hosting Texas State in Houston next year, going to Orlando, playing a Fiesta Bowl (NY6) participant from a year ago in Huntsville, and another from years past (Hawaii) while being an FBS “doormat”. I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying playing Austin Peay and Morehead State, too. We’re both happy.
Just in case though, I’d encourage you to email Dr. Hurley letting him know that Tarleton’s alumni are content in the UAC and that he should STOP trying to align TSU with non-peers.

And trying to get back to the theme of this thread….
I think GCU and Seattle leaving may be a great selling point for the WAC.
As has been pointed out in multiple threads and posts, GCU has an advantage with their NIL and athletics funding. With them gone, everyone is on a much more equal playing field.
Seattle is an outlier with travel. This expense is now gone, or soon will be when they leave.
We have a AQ so sell the possibilities to the masses. Maybe this allows SFA to reconsider the WAC. Won’t hurt to try so let the Commissioner talk to them. Maybe now the Commissioner goes back to Northern Colorado, Northern Arizona and Weber with a sales pitch. Let’s be proactive in whatever we do. Help convince Utah Valley to start football (there is a thread about very subject). If we go down, at least go down swinging.

I agree with the idea of flipping over every rock possible but why would NAU Weber or UNC jump to a league that currently has rumors of SFA, Tarleton, among others looking to leave? If UVU starts football that would take what 2 years or more from official announcement to get an actual team on the field. if anything I would be trying to convince the FB only schools in the Big Sky (UC Davis and Cal Poly) and or U of San Diego to jump over to the WAC if football is an actual focus. They would be in the WAC for only 1 sport but it's 3 established fb programs in Sacramento, San Diego, and San Luis Obispo which is just north of LA. Again I would think these 3 would be a tough get as well but might have more validity behind them as fb only members than having the UVU President thinking about starting fb b/c his day was a BYU fan and that he wants to honor his dad with starting a fb program in Orem.

The best program and a top 3 program the last 3 years are gone so let's stay? Not a real endorsement of SFA if that is how they view themselves then.
I'm not sure what the WAC will do but hope it hangs around.
What would be a pro/con for the TX schools to stay or go? Same with CBU and the Ut's.
CBU is probably stuck unless Zags leave or BW wants to add them
UVU is stuck unless they figure a way to tag along with the UT fb schools to a new league.
SUU and UTech are fairly viable for a jump to another fcs league
as for UTA they probably would rather link up in the SL as would SFA
ACU I think has the opportunity to go to SL or ASun
TSU is most likely to figure out a fbs league sooner than later, regardless of it being a good or bad idea they seem hellbent on that route.
To add anyone the WAC will need to add 2 at min for league voting purposes. Non TX schools don't want to be in a league where its 6 TX and 4 non TX. I think the split will need to go 5 and 5. for the WAC to get some stable ground again I think.
Not to many options west of TX either unless you want a school that plays football in Central Washington or a school in Montana. Probably a deal breaker.
WAC could look at OUAZ or ACU (Arizona Christian) both have football I believe. Probably deal breakers
Why do GCU fans give off an aura like they are perennial national champions? It’s not that the rest of the conference can’t or doesn’t want to compete, it’s that GCU’s funding model is inhernently unfair compared to the traditional model.
I can tell you for a fact GCU was a large part of why they were looking to get out. No one has a chance to finance their athletic department the way GCU does. It isn’t about playing the best schools, it’s about playing better schools were everyone has a chance to win. I know for a fact SFA wanted to part with GCU (they aren’t the only one). I don’t know if GCU leaving will keep the ‘jacks in the WAC, but past conversations make me think the chances are better.
Hot take GCU departure (and to a lesser extent Seattle’s remoteness gone) will keep the WAC together than if CBU had gotten the invite.
NMSU didn’t have a hard time “competing” with GCU. In fact, we beat them like a drum. Don’t believe me? Check the overall head to head. If you don’t think you can compete with them, then you’re the problem. Not GCU.
You’d likely have gone 0-4 the last four years too. Congrats, y’all had history and brand recognition. No one else did and barring an upset, no one will again based on how they find their athletics, with men’s basketball double number two and almost five times last place.
As it is, they still claimed commish cups at the end of NMSU’s times in the WAC.
GCU got their gobs of money only in the last 4 years? Before that, when they were paying Thunder Dan $37M a year (all numbers approximate), they didn't have gobs of money and "unfair" advantages?
You’re kidding yourself if you think this year’s version of GCU is the same as $37 million Dan. Your kidding yourself if you think NMSU didn’t regress in talent.

San Diego is a non starter for football! They are happy playing in the Pioneer League. Why would they add even 50 scholarships at $35k each year. And tuition only goes up.
So, they don’t care if travel is $1M a year for football. The $1M a year doesn’t even cover 3 scholarships.

There are some on USD campus that want out of the Pio league and have wanted this for some awhile. USD adding scholarships and going the WAC probably has a better shot than UVU starting a football program and playing in the WAC...

How long has USD been in the Pioneer? How many presidents and athletic directors have they had since being in the pioneer?
No clue but as of the last few years those on campus want a more competitive spot to play fcs b/c they get seeded lower for playoffs than they like b/c of the league they are currently in. So they are surveying the landscape.

The commish the WAC needs will require a serious amount of UT oil money. Far be it from me to suggest that won’t be authorized.

Nobody with a brain is going to leave the BSC for the WAC, and you guys need all sports members and CP and davis aren't leaving the BW for the WAC.
No idea what SUU was thinking when they bailed (the BSC doesn't want them back) but they have to be kicking themselves right now.

I honestly think that of the Utah schools stay together, they’ll be happy regardless of the outcome. Their attendance figures the last two years take a notable jump when they play each other and that’s how you build a program.

Last one here--turn out the light.
WAC wants to move back to 1-A/FBS football. GCU doesn’t plan to have football so it’s good they got out and the fact they got into a great hoops conf is even better.
