Congratulations to GCU and especially Seattle for finally landing their hoped-for and logical homes in the WCC. I hope CBU also finds a landing spot.
I have to think the Utah schools will now be totally focused on getting into the Summit League. Hope that works out for them.
The Texas schools will have to look to the ASUN or Southland.
Hate to think this signals the end of the WAC after being a fan of the conference for four decades. Conference realignment giveth and taketh away, and these days there seems to be a lot more taketh away.
Why would the WCC add a fourth school in So Cal?
I too thought the “for profit” was a barrier for GCU, but not something that couldn’t be overcome.
11 schools and if Gonzaga leaves, it’s 10 schools. Does the WCC expand or stay with 10.
If the coaches are still at their schools, WCC could have three schools in the tourney in 25-26! I put the qualifier, because the big east invited Butler, but Brad Stevens before they came into the conference. Now Butler is a mediocre Big East school.
Will be interested to see what happens with Cal Baptist! A 12 team Big West?
I'd welcome Cal Baptist with open arms. Problem for them with the Big West is there's already a member in Riverside (as much as I'd love to kick UCR out). Also, 11 schools in California is two or three too many.

I'm not sure what the WAC will do but hope it hangs around.
What would be a pro/con for the TX schools to stay or go? Same with CBU and the Ut's.
CBU is probably stuck unless Zags leave or BW wants to add them
UVU is stuck unless they figure a way to tag along with the UT fb schools to a new league.
SUU and UTech are fairly viable for a jump to another fcs league
as for UTA they probably would rather link up in the SL as would SFA
ACU I think has the opportunity to go to SL or ASun
TSU is most likely to figure out a fbs league sooner than later, regardless of it being a good or bad idea they seem hellbent on that route.
To add anyone the WAC will need to add 2 at min for league voting purposes. Non TX schools don't want to be in a league where its 6 TX and 4 non TX. I think the split will need to go 5 and 5. for the WAC to get some stable ground again I think.
Not to many options west of TX either unless you want a school that plays football in Central Washington or a school in Montana. Probably a deal breaker.
WAC could look at OUAZ or ACU (Arizona Christian) both have football I believe. Probably deal breakers
Why do GCU fans give off an aura like they are perennial national champions? It’s not that the rest of the conference can’t or doesn’t want to compete, it’s that GCU’s funding model is inhernently unfair compared to the traditional model.
I can tell you for a fact GCU was a large part of why they were looking to get out. No one has a chance to finance their athletic department the way GCU does. It isn’t about playing the best schools, it’s about playing better schools were everyone has a chance to win. I know for a fact SFA wanted to part with GCU (they aren’t the only one). I don’t know if GCU leaving will keep the ‘jacks in the WAC, but past conversations make me think the chances are better.
Hot take GCU departure (and to a lesser extent Seattle’s remoteness gone) will keep the WAC together than if CBU had gotten the invite.
Your hot take, the question is does the departures of those two schools make the WAC more attractive for D1 schools? Will former WAC schools consider rejoining?
FoUTASportscaster continue to pimp tennis and T/F. WAC is a misfit league that Seattle and GCU alum and fans are happy to leave and wish it was this July not next July. WAC staring July 25 is a Utah/TX version of the Big Sky... Big Sky is a fun league but outside of the Montana's no one puts much money into athletics. I have to think CBU and Tarleton (if they don't leave) will call the shots of the league. I hope the WAC stays around for schools that need it until they find a better spot that fits them best. I can be thrilled to be watching my school land on solid ground while feeling bad for most on this board right?

Former WAC member Cal State Bakersfield. They have a blue court and just happy to part of the WAC then jumped to the Big West when there was an opening. Some crazy battles when they were in the league.
Good times, when many thought the WAC was on life support, and it kind of was. I saw it as a brotherhood of sorts. Some of the personalities and speculations, mix of schools drama (Chicago St, UMKC, etc) in the WAC board, back in the day... too funny at times. Fond memories.
Again, Best wishes going forth 'Hawks and 'Lopes.
Sitting on a toilet somewhere and interacting with you.

Ah Bakersfield. I remember we had a few close basketball games back when UTA was in the WAC the first time. Last time was in 2017 NIT, and CSUB won 80-76.

NMSU didn’t have a hard time “competing” with GCU. In fact, we beat them like a drum. Don’t believe me? Check the overall head to head. If you don’t think you can compete with them, then you’re the problem. Not GCU.

Riverside recently talked about dropping athletics!! They should be kicked out. How many winning basketball seasons have they had since they became D1? It’s about 25 years in D1. Have they had 10 winning years? Isn’t their “arena” really a student rec center gym? Again in around 25 years of D1, they still play in a crappy gym! Some of UCR’s teams won’t play CBU! CBU is in what? 8th year of D1.

Maybe a CUSA/WCC challenge happens?
GCU might be 6-17 vs NMSU but it's been 800 days since NMSU last beat GCU. I think this UTA fan is mad that his hoops team has been less successful than Chicago St was vs GCU to this point.

He's not mad, he's just speaking the truth about the discussions the schools had been having. We already know you will spin it your way, but that's just you. That's what you do.

Might want to put the brakes on three. The WAC and WCC were comparable in conference strength and GCU would not have gotten an at-large. St. Mary’s eliminated doubts when they won the conference tourney as many had them as a bubble team.
Maybe GCU raises the WCC a spot or two to put them near the MWC, but there’s similar deadweight in the WCC as there was in the WAC.

You don’t know what the teams will look like in 25–26. Basing it off of one year isn’t enough of a sample size. Last time the WAC has 2 NCAA teams. The WCC hasn’t had 3 teams in the NCAA in awhile. But, GCU gives them a better chance.

I’m sorry you’re in your feels, but I’m telling you what I know and have heard. Much or your conference believes you have an unfair advantage. It not just me.
Personally, I don’t like how easy there can be a disparity. But the results have nothing to do with it. UTA couldn’t get past Georgia State in the conference tourney, including twice in the championship. We had a fair shot. We just didn’t do it. I have nothing against the Panthers and rooted for them in the tourney.
Barring an upset, no one has a shot when they are being outspent 2, 3 and in some cases 4 to 1.
UTA has beat UT-Austin, Ohio State, Memphis, a ranked St. Mary’s team and San Francisco in recent years. We’re an attractive school academically, are in a good location and have great facilities. But we’ll never develop or brand long term hoping for an upset of the team that uses unreplicable funding mechanisms to heavily outspend their peers.
And the GCU names means squat out here so we can’t even use you to have an attendance boost.

Lemme go peek in the gym and see if they've repainted the floor yet. While I'm doing that, you pop over to WAC headquarters and see if they've already cashed that exit check.

RE: Grand Canyon and Seattle to the WCC
Listening to y’all talk about GCU athletics spending explains a lot to me. I was always puzzled about their tennis program.
The first collegiate tennis match my daughter an 18 yr old freshman played was against a GCU 24 yr old freshman who had been on pro tour in Europe since she was 17. Seasoned and crafty.
I truly believe she would’ve beaten my daughter had she not made so many questionable calls and got her as mad as a hornet something not easily done.

Why would that make any difference? The best program and a top 3 program the last 3 years are gone so let's stay? Not a real endorsement of SFA if that is how they view themselves then.
NMSU didn’t have a hard time “competing” with GCU. In fact, we beat them like a drum. Don’t believe me? Check the overall head to head. If you don’t think you can compete with them, then you’re the problem. Not GCU.
You’d likely have gone 0-4 the last four years too. Congrats, y’all had history and brand recognition. No one else did and barring an upset, no one will again based on how they find their athletics, with men’s basketball double number two and almost five times last place.
As it is, they still claimed commish cups at the end of NMSU’s times in the WAC.

I can hope UTRGV cancels their check and stays in the WAC even if that is now essentially impossible. It seemed to me that RGV would mature over time in the WAC and become a good member, better than so many possible add-ons today. I also thought adding football meant the V's were gearing up to grow their programs. I wish them well going forward, but am disappointed they have chosen to leave. GCU does not really fit the same kind of model the other Universities in the WAC have. It almost seems their goals are completely different than others in the WAC, and their model as a for profit school is vastly different. The last thing I want to see is for the WAC to waste away because there is a real need for the conference and reasonable levels of competition.

GCU was a mediocre D2 program. But, they put money into the program, built an arena, and became a damn good team.
They came when the WAC needed schools to survive. Then the Texas Four, SUU came to take the WAC to another level. Obviously that didn’t happen due to other circumstances.

Much like when Liberty recently left the ASUN, I’d imagine many WAC ADs aren’t sad to see GCU go. It just clears the path for someone else to get that basketball AQ. And with Seattle going too, that sure helps with the travel budget especially for those Texas schools. I wouldn’t imagine there are too many tears being shed by those remaining in the conference. Like Liberty, GCU has a different “business model” than traditional public colleges. It’s hard to compete when there are large budget gaps within your own conference.

Thanks for your perspective. Both of those schools will be missed, as will Tarleton and UTRGV. Somehow, the remnants will soldier on, if only for the AQ, as you reference, and we may end up better in the long run.

Mac, I'm not sure what we are referencing, but Tarleton is still a WAC member.
