RE: Transfers incoming
For all the early complaints that the portal has turned programs like our into a minor league feeder system for the P5’s & that our roster will become less talented, I don’t believe I am seeing that. I think maybe 3 of our players leaving have moved up to P5. The guys we have coming in appear to be a good mix of players who have produced at a lower level or players who struggled to get consistent playing time at a P5 school, but were higher rated than our average HS recruits. So it appears to me the talent level here (& a lot of other G5’s) are increasing.
As we have seen in past every incoming player will not pan out, but between the combination of them being more skilled (higher rated) & more experienced with more data points to scout them on. It would seem there should be a higher % chance of them being contributors.

I agree. Recruiting does not seem to be a problem with Silverfield and our coaches. We got snakebit a few games last year. Games that could have gone either way....did not go our way. That happens. But, what is happening in recruiting is encouraging.

RE: Transfers incoming
The key to the WR corps was keeping Scates. He has bad hands, but he is a proven homerun threat at 22.9 yards per catch. Even if you take out the 79 yard touchdown, he is at 19.6 yards per catch. That is with an offensive line that mostly couldn't give our quarterback very much time.
At the very least he will be able to stretch out the defense. Best case, his hands improve, our offensive line improves, and he has a great season.

RE: Transfers incoming
By my count, we've so far had 16 go out the portal, and 18 come in.
Defense is a +. We lost two guys from our 2-deep, including big Cam. But we've picked up 5 guys who were on 2-deeps last year - including a starting S from Arky, and a big DL from Oklahoma.
OL is a definite +. We've lost no one (so far), and picked up 4 guys from P5 schools. Only 1 of them got any PT last year, but at the very least they provide much needed depth.
RB is probably a +. We've added a player from Miss State who has more upside than outgoing Clark, and we've added a lower-level starter to replace Asa.
WR is a +. To replace Ivory and Lewis, we've added 3 guys with better analytics and solid experience (and more receiving yards).
TE is the only definite - . Thru the portal, we haven't landed a TE to replace a potential pro talent. We did bring on a couple of juco's though. And it is possible that a position switch could move someone to TE.
Kicking. We didn't lose a starter thru the portal, but lost both the P and K to graduation. However we did find their replacements in the portal.
So far, this seems like it could be a big win for CRS.

Problem is these "definite pluses" you state are all theoretical verses known performance in RS' system by those that left. We've had several other theoretical pluses in past transfers that did little or nothing here. Actual playing performance in RS' system will tell the real story.

So sad so glad.
I'm encouraged that today we seem to be making great talent acquisitions and our crew plans to be in the stands this coming year rooting for our team. Of course, "theoretically" we have to endure all the possiblities. But hey, living in the moment here.
Go Tigers!

Agree totally on the unknowns of transfers vs what we saw certain guys do. But that is a mixed bag for me, the ones leaving did some good things individually at times but also lead us to discussing firing our coach and a 6th and 7th place league finish, so I am all for rolling the dice with some new blood.

I've got literally one "definite plus". And it's on the OL where we lost nobody and picked up 4 guys. There is nothing "theoretical" about that.

And that's the one area that couldn't have been much worse - run game lowest output in years & our QB running for his life routinely. Hope the transfers can improve the OL play because ours was bad.

We've lost one of our incoming OL transfers to juco. Adams. Turns out he wasn't going to be eligible for immediate transfer.

Noticed that one of our portal entries, Marlon Crockett, is going to Arkansas...but as a preferred walk-on. I had some high hopes for him but he never really got on the field.

He knew he would be moving down on the depth chart and saw an opportunity to play at home.

RE: Transfers incoming
[Next few posts are evaluating transfer portal only. Don't have the time to pull-in HS & juco recruits, and players completing eligibility. So this is just tying to measure where we won/lost the portal.]
RB...
We're losing:
Martin - last year 435 yds rush + 312 yds receive. PFF grade 74.0.
Clark - no yards. no PFF grade.
We're gaining:
Watson - 921 yds rush + 314 receive. PFF 82.9.
Hargrove - no yards. PFF 59.3.
I hate to lose Asa but this is an upgrade, and a backup with higher potential.

RE: Transfers incoming
WR...
We're losing:
Lewis - 615 yds receive. PFF grade 68.4.
Ivory - 586 yds. PFF 64.0.
Crockett - no yds. PFF 60.0.
Wright - 37 yds. PFF 57.9.
Jones - 10 yds. PFF 48.1.
We're gaining:
Blankumsee - 512 yds. PFF 73.3.
Gammage - 774 yds. PFF 69.9.
Dove - 240 yds. PFF 53.4.
Technically, losing some depth. But still seems like an upgrade. Our top 2 new guys are higher rated than any WR on last year's team.

Interior & Edge D...
We're losing:
DL Jackson - PFF 72.4.
LB Peeples - PFF 64.6
LB Nedd - PFF 62.8.
LB Landsdell - no PFF.
We're getting:
DL Ellison - PFF 68.4.
DL Jones - PFF 60.9.
DE Joyner - PFF 57.5.
LB Martin - no PFF.
Overall, slipped a bit. DL is definitely deeper, but we lose our top guy. LB core lost a lot of depth.
