Williams is spitballing, and that quote makes it clear. "That I'm aware of"? "Likely". Piss poor reporting.

Hartline, please. An ideal fit for UC. Keep Coombs and Gino on staff. Let the new coach bring in the remaining coaching staff of his choosing. Send the staff out to get the recruits re-committed. Bring in 6-8 O$U guys from the portal.

If Williams tweet is correct that UC is putting a premium on previous HC experience, that rules out Hartline, Minter and Golesh.

One guy I find kinda intriguing who hasn't got a lot of mention in many places for the UC HC job (including none on this entire board based upon a brief search) is USC DC Alex Grinch.

I wouldn't put it past Cunningham to go the Wes Miller route and pick a successful guy at a lower level college. Some names that jump out:
Matt Entz -46-6 at North Dakota St.
Brian Bohannon - 68-24 at Kennesaw St.
Curt Cignetti - 41-8 at James Madison
Jamey Chadwell- 39-21 at Coastal Carolina
Not sure they check the "high level of recruiting" box though.

I don't think they would check the "knows NIL" box either which I believe was also mentioned.

Honestly, all of these guys would be outstanding candidates.
Remember Jim Tressel came to OSU from Youngstown State...
Cignetti is on the older side...I think he's 67. Doubt he makes the move from JMU at this point.

Entz has won a couple of FCS chips but I'm not sure about his fit recruiting-wise and jumping to the B12 after completing only his fourth season as a head coach. IMO that is a risky hire and would seem low bar. Tressel was an Ohio guy, a former assistant under Earl Bruce and coached at YSU for 15 years winning four chips there. That makes more sense why OSU hired him.

Entz also wasn't the guy who built the north Dakota state machine. That guy is playing for a big 12 championship this weekend.

Yeah, the game has changed. In the past I've thought that very successful small school coaches, even on lower levels (e.g. Division II or III) were getting way too overlooked. BK at GVSU being a good example. My thought simplistically being if you can coach football, then you can coach football.
But the transfer portal and NIL are where it's at now. If you are not in tune and connected to that scene, you are going to get creamed. I still like guys with strong HC experience, but right now I really value guys who have experience with how it's done at "elite" or at least big-time schools.

Quote:Former Ohio State assistant and Texas head coach Tom Herman has conflicting reports swirling around him and UC football.
Earlier today Toledo Blade reporter Kyle Rowland said Herman would not have any interest in becoming the Bearcats' 44th head coach.
"Tom Herman's name has been linked to the Cincinnati vacancy, but sources have told The Blade that he would not be interested," Rowland tweeted. "Herman was born in Ohio but raised in California, and a majority of his career has been spent in the south(west), a region where he has deep connections."
Meanwhile, Enquirer columnist Jason Williams reported later in the day that Tom Herman and Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell are firmly in the mix for UC's open position.
"Tom Herman & Matt Campbell very much in play for #Bearcats job, I’m told," Williams tweeted. "Could be others, just names I’m hearing. Also: UC putting premium on head coaching experience — Urban Meyer isn’t happening, for those fans who were dreaming of that"
Williams did clarify that these are not finalists. Herman never had a losing season at Texas across four years (32-18 record) and won the 2019 Sugar Bowl over Georgia.
"To be clear," He Williams tweeted. "These are not finalists that I’m aware of and I should’ve said there likely are other candidates."
The rumors will surely keep swirling throughout the next week and we'll keep you posted on All Bearcats.

Bolded, at this point, names can be floated through reporters as trial balloons to gauge donor and fan reactions or simply as a misdirection play to keep reporters off the trail of serious contenders wishing to fly under the radar.

Hoping to see some Pete Thamel tweets today with some "leaks".
Anyone been monitoring the flight schedules in/out of Lunken?

If UC was bringing Primetime in for an interview I would hope UC would've flown him into Lunken on a Private Jet, not Allegiant at CVG!

Just took a drive around Twitter. Lots of, uh, interesting candidates (Mack Brown?) being mentioned, other schools fan sites trying to hang on to their guy (Vol Scoop is promoting Brian Hartline, which is hilarious) and positioning to break the news (BearcatReport, etc). It's going to be a long week.

Wow. Kind of surprising on Tressel, but he had a pretty solid year. I suspect he's Madison bound regardless.

The DC for Wisconsin has been in talks with Fick. Sounded like it's open convo about the program's direction and what role/interest there is for some of the staff.
