RE: Per Caulkins- the school lacks the ambition
You know. I was mistaken. The public WAS involved once.
Mayor Herenton wanted to build a domed-stadium downtown to connect to convention center complex.
There was public outcry from many sectors. The OCS crowd. The "don't waste our tax money" crowd. The Liberty Bowl defenders. And the Herenton haters.
That project died pretty quickly due to public opinion.

Seriously?
The public has NEVER been involved in any stadium decisions. They simply announce what they are going to do.
Could some rich old football player that no one ever hears from show up? Could happen. Who knows?
Agree with this that a public donation campaign has never been attempted because I think deep down, they know it would be successful, and would force the University's hand in building an OCS. Let's say we have 20k season ticket holders, do you not think asking for an annual contribution of $100-$1,000 to go toward funding an OCS would be a difficult sell? I would support that immediately over and NIL Fund where you have zero clue where the money is going and why. Not to mention, a horrible head coach/AD begging for NIL money when they will not improve the product on the field, even if money funneled in, because they're in over their heads. That would have overwhelming support - there's your payment to supplement the financing of the debt over 20-30 years. Ask the state for a certain amount of funding as a down payment & large corporate donors for premium boxes and advertising. Tack on a $25 fee for student enrollment rather than wasting $ charged in tuition for the ability to print paper in computer labs. Sounds like a better use of resources, very easy, and would drastically improve the University & surrounding area.
But again, it's too difficult to get off your ass and be proactive, rather we should continue to be the city's lackey and support a stadium that has cost our City an NFL(!) team along with us getting into a P5 conference, several times. It's a joke and we do not have the leadership in place, now, to lead us. We did with Rudd and it's unfortunate his 10 year tenure had to end.

Completely makes no sense, whatsoever. Our two brightest minds, Rudd and Martin, along with Fred Smith didn't attempt it at the height of the program's success.

This is so free of anything resembling reality, it is mind boggling, and it doesn't even take into account that NIL is an addon. Assume that you can bleed every penny out of the fanbase for an OCS; then you have to ask for more for NIL. Pure craziness.
Maybe doable...
5,000 X $1,000
5,000 X $500
10,000 X $100
That is $8.5 million extra per year. Averaging everything out, it comes out to an extra $70/ticket based on a 6 game home season. Do you really think people will pay that much extra on top of what they already pay?
At that donation level, most of our fans will do what they are doing right now. Wait on free or next to free tickets.

Exactly, that's an admission of UNDERACHIEVEMENT if there ever was one....Silvernutz is in over his head...our recruits need a more dynamic/meticulous leader....If admittantly the offensive line play is subpar....wouldn't an offensive line coach know how to address that ineptness during the course of 2-3 seasons? This is a joke, neither RS,nor higher rated recruits are going to remedy this...
They're giddy as the schedule/conference is NOW crap....We aren't going anywhere with his leadrship...Just an "average" program in an "average" conference....But oh yeah, don't forget to donate to the NIL

RE: Per Caulkins- the school lacks the ambition
I heard Calkins say the money's not there because it would cost $15M to replace Ryan.
What?
The buyout is $3-$3.5M.
How do you get to $15M from there?
Say you have to pay the new coach $1M more than Ryan, and even another $1M for the staff.
$3 + $1 +$1 = $5 which is a long way from $15M.
If you're losing $500k per game in attendance, you can get a big chunk of that $$ back.
Just when I start to think Calkins is fairly smart, he comes out with some statement like that.

Tulane was 2-10 last season because they spent most of the year in Birmingham.
