I've heard that the move has all but already been approved.

That is also showing up on several different reports. Allegedly, this has been in the works for 6 mos to a year. Supposedly, Texas also toalked to the ACC earlier, but to what extent is unclear.

FWIW, Kirk Bohls of Austin-American Stesman says that the move is "almost done." I guess it could be an interesting few weeks here to start, and then the ripple effects will last a while if all this is really true.

RE: New Realignment Thread
Not for nothing, but the SEC in February announced per-school revenue distribution of about $45.5 million, or $637.7 million, for fiscal year 2019-2020. SEC schools averaged $44.6 million in 2018-19.

In May, the Big 12 announced a revenue split of $34.5 million per school, or $345 million, down for the second straight year.

I got a "this page doesn't exist" error from the above link. So I went deeper to find the actual link.

Here's its Twitter text:

TCU insider @JClarkHFB247 has reported that TCU, Baylor, and Texas Tech have already reached out to the PAC-12.

One source told him “The Big 12 is going to blow up man”

As others have mentioned earlier, the PAC folks have never shown any willingness to associate with religious schools. So I find it hard to imagine that they'd invite Baylor or TCU.

True, but if I were Leebron, I would not count on that still being the prevailing climate in the PAC. Their advantage is that they have already invested and competed at a much higher level than Rice. Texas Tech especially has some academic credentials that should not be ignored or looked down upon. Rice should be leading the charge to get the PAC in Houston especially given the amount of ex-Californians moving to the Houston area. Heck, if we are really bold, sell Rice and UH together as travel partners to the PAC similar to USC/UCLA and package Texas Tech. I really think that Rice needs to be extremely proactive. Add Oklahoma State or K State (lots of research) to sweeten the deal. I would say Kansas, but they are probably bound for the Big10.

Texas Tech is not very redeeming relative to even the academic bottom-feeders (Oregon St. and Washington St.) in the PAC12. TCU and Baylor would at least not be right at the bottom of the PAC12 academically.

Looks like at least some or all of A&M admin (chancellor, president, AD) was left out of the SEC/UT-OU discussions. Nice slap in the face for Aggy

RE: New Realignment Thread
I think last round there was some talk of accepting a reduced payout, at least temporarily, as a price of admission.

Maybe if the PAC would negotiate with us, we could if necessary take a reduced payout that would gradually rise to a full distribution. I know a number of posters in the PAC are concerned about expansion reducing their schools' hares.

RE: New Realignment Thread
This source (who I'd trust way more than a twitter reporter in the middle of nowhere with 500 followers) says the following about possible realignment.

One ACC AD wondered whether this could be the first domino leading to a massive shake-up that would ultimately result in a 32-team superconference. Two other ADs suggested that the best path forward might be for the ACC, Pac-12 and others to work together toward a new media rights package that could help counter the outsized strength a 16-team SEC would command, with one AD also saying he believed there was minimal value in what would remain of the Big 12.

ETA - sorry forgot the link but it's from ESPN talking about how Texas and Oklahoma could be going to the SEC in a matter of weeks.

The only thing more delusional than talking about Rice going to the PAC is what I've read on Twitter from UH fans about their school being invited. Rice has zero to offer ANY conference with respect to the big 2 sports. I don't think any conference would be interested in Rice - heck, even the Sun Belt has passed C-USA, and they don't need another bottom feeder that brings no athletic quality in football or men's basketball, no fans and no TV ratings.

RE: New Realignment Thread
Sadly I have said for a long time that we are headed to DIII.

Here has been my prediction for a while-4 16 team conferences each with 2 divisions, then a 8 team playoff with the winner of the conference playoff receiving a bye, then 4 wild cards. Jan 1-first round, saturday before the NFL conference finals-2 semifinals, saturday before super bowl-championship game. Giant money.

Regular season is 7 division, 4 cross division, 2 non-conference.

Here are the conferences:

ACC-now has 14, adds WVU, ND
Big "10"-now has now has 14, adds Kansas, K State
SEC-now has 14, adds OK, OK ST
PAC 12-now has 12 adds Texas and 3 of Tech, BYU, Iowa St, Baylor, TCU, AFA, Col St, SD St.

So maybe U Conn goes to ACC and ND goes to Big "10"
Maybe Iowa St goes to Big 10.

But at the end of the day it is all about MONEY. And the PAC will overcome their objections, I mean they agreed to the AZ schools.

Why in the world would the SEC want to deal with Texas and their arrogance? They have ruled the roost for 110 years and will be responsible for the destruction of 3 conferences (SWC, Big 8, and WAC, indirectly) PAC seeing the tealeaves will accept Texas. Hope all the teasips enjoy those westcoast gametimes

I would like to be a fly on the wall in the first SEC meeting were TexasU tries to tell Bama and Florida and Georgia and LSU that they are doing it all wrong.

I will say that I really like CDC and I hope he can find a way to put a lid on TexasU hubris and arrogance.

Totally agree. There is no tomorrow. We have to stretch our wallets wide enough to somehow manage to get us into the AAC. My opinion, anyway. And by “our wallets,” I don’t so much mine and yours, but rather, the fatter ones. Hell we’ve got a $6 billion endowment; could scrape off some chump change from that and buy our way into the league. We’re not going to get there with our athletic prowess, nor with our fan base, but money talks. We need to do some talking.

$100 million for the John and Ann Doerr “leadership” program? And no support for athletics other than the stray individual donor.

To all who’re in a position to do something about it: make it happen. Or fold up our tent.

From what I have read the PAC is influenced by two things -

1. The perception that it is a second rate football conference;
2. Money

sorry, but that is backwards. in college and all sports even down to 5 yr olds, it is only Money. Everything is easily explained by those 5 letters.

I agree with your number 1 as number 2. I bet Pac would try to lure KU for bskb as they are also second rate in that also.

These moves are 100% about the coming recruiting wars. Star football and basketball players are going to start getting HUGE money from advertising deals, and the star SEC players will make more than the star Big 12 players. It would be hard for UT to recruit against the SEC schools. The SEC knows they could watch UT athletics decay relative to the SEC, but they gain more by adding UT.

Isn’t that the truth. I have a vague recollection that actually he was in the band freshman year during football season. That was when he was in his “Up with People” mode. But I don’t recall seeing him at any other games after that. And I may be wrong about the band

This is a fantastic plan but I do not think there are 64 schools who can survive and be even remotely competitive in the big money NIL world. The Alabama QB has a million in NIL deals already and basically hasn't played a down yet. There are going to be 20 plus or minus schools that can generate cash at that level; the rest of college teams are going to evolve to what college athletics was I think intended to be; students who happen to play a sport.

Now how it works when Alabama has almost no one left to play, I do not know.

Like any other pro league. You don't see the NBA or NHL playing out of league games, do you?

You will have basically 24 teams divided into two conferences, playing a round robin schedule, and the two conference champs will meet for the national title.

The rest of us will be playing college football.
