RE: Texas, Oklahoma reach out to the SEC. What does it mean for Memphis?
I don't know why most seem fixated on going crazy adding a bunch of schools. It makes no sense on any level. Go to 12, lock in a good contract, and sign a GOR until 2035.
Screw Boise, San Diego State, BYU and I everyone else in the middle of nowhere.

I agree with you in principle but most are predicting super conferences and the SEC move is the first in that direction.
It’s bad enough to be in a non P5, if you’re in a non P5 small conference while everyone else is a member of a super conference you are really going to come in on the short end of TV contract $.
We’re heading towards the US steel era of college football conferences.

Boise, San Diego State and BYU are not going to any P5 conference. They will always be available if the new Big 12 wants them or if anyone leaves. Let's see what the PAC12 and ACC do. IF there are going to be super conferences, then we are going to end up in the ACC. Maybe the Big Ten and PAC 12 will be stupid enough to want Kansas, Iowa State or Georgia Tech. The ACC sure isn't going to want Texas Tech, Kansas State, Baylor or TCU.
There is no point watering down the league with dead weight in the middle of nowhere. Aside from San Diego State, there is also ZERO recruiting at those schools.

Why do you think the ACC wants Memphis? I haven’t see any indications of that elsewhere. Just asking an honest question.

Not to talk out of turn, and Stam, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he was talking about ACC moves like inviting WV and possibly Cincinnati, which would have a domino effect toward the BigXII.

You are talking about super conferences. I would imagine that if the ACC does a super conference, we would be much more attractive than everyone in the AAC except Cincinnati, and everyone in the Big 12 except maybe Oklahoma State.
Is Oklahoma State an appreciably better football program than ours, that it would make it worth having everyone have to travel over 1,000 miles to play them? I just don't see it.

Nobody's talking out of turn. The domino effect would be the loser between UCF and BYU getting invited, or the league staying at 11.
RE: Texas, Oklahoma reach out to the SEC. What does it mean for Memphis?
While all of this is going on, there is positioning as well for the "Super Conferences" to take over what is the "NCAA Basketball Tournament".
Once all the dust settles, what we know as the "NCAA Basketball Tournament" will become the whatever they want to call it and pick up a billion dollar bonanza windfall. The Super Conferences will come together and do their own basketball tournament and invite other teams as needed to fill it out.
B12 and NCAA move at the same pace and look to being non existence very soon
RE: Texas, Oklahoma reach out to the SEC. What does it mean for Memphis?
I find it funny how all the schools in the SEC not named Alabama, LSU, FL and UGA are giddy about Texas and Oklahoma. All the other schools just moved down 1 spot for sure and many of them moved down 2. Yeah, I get the extra $$ thing, but still. No chance at winning the league.

The difference between Kansas State and us is that they are in the club and we aren't. Once we are in the club, it won't matter if we have been there for 5 months or 50 years. We will be ahead of Kansas State and at least a dozen other current P5 members.
In a world where only money counts, does anyone think that it will matter if your academics are a bit better than someone else's but you are in Kansas? Does anyone think there will be any interest in having 2 schools from the states of Kansas, Iowa, or capturing the upstate New York market?
RE: Texas, Oklahoma reach out to the SEC. What does it mean for Memphis?
We've discussed all the obvious combinations. To think out of the box......
What if all these football first ideas for Big12 fall through? What if Big12 decided to do a basketball first model but not giving up on football? Try to add Memphis, Cincy, Gonzaga, UConn, Houston, to go along with National Champs Baylor, Kansas, Iowa St, KState, Ok St, TCU, TTU and WVU. Add UCF. This conference would contain 3 of 2021's Final4. That's a STRONG basketball conference. And the football teams here can compete with anyone, not that it matters - this conference would be a football outlier to those that matter. I don't see a way that Big12 gets a seat in CFP without Texas and OU. It is what it is.

Gonzaga has a better football program than UCONN! Seriously, UCONN. UCONN should never have dropped out. They haven't been mentioned at all in the articles I've read.
