UNCW vs. Delaware
Time to move on to our next opponent. The Delaware Blue Hens come to Trask this weekend (both games at 1 PM on Saturday/Sunday) to kick off a 4-game homestand for the Seahawks.
Delaware earned a split against Hofstra last weekend and are now 2-3 in the CAA, tied for 6th in the standings.
The Blue Hens have been pretty injury riddled this season. Most notably, starting senior G Kevin Anderson has been out since January 2nd with an ankle injury. Another starter, redshirt sophomore F Alex Novakovich, hasn't played since December 21st with a foot injury. This after losing Logan Curtis to a season-ending Achilles injury and Reggie Gardner to a shoulder injury until at least February prior to the season starting. Other minor injuries forced a postponement against William & Mary 2 weeks ago, as Delaware was down to just 5 healthy scholarship players at the time. Things have not improved much for the Blue Hens since, as just 7 players will likely be available this weekend.
With that said, here is Delaware's projected lineup and bench options:
Projected Starters
* PG Ryan Allen (6-2 Sr.): 14.4 ppg, 2.9 apg, 2.7 rpg, 0.3 spg
* G Johnny McCoy (6-5 So.): 5.1 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 1.2 spg, 1.9 apg
* G Gianmarco Aletti (6-6 Fr.): 4.5 ppg, 1.3 rpg, 0.4 spg, 0.9 apg
* PF Andrew Carr (6-9 Fr.): 8.4 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 0.7 bpg, 2.1 apg
* C Dylan Painter (6-10 r-Sr.): 12.5 ppg, 10.9 rpg, 1.1 bpg, 2.1 apg
Bench
* G Ebby Asamoah (6-4 So.): 9.0 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 1.2 spg, .500 3-pt %, 23.3 mpg
* F Anthony Ochefu (6-8 Sr.): 1.9 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 8.3 mpg
Delaware has been a poor 3-point shooting team (.323) overall, but Asamoah has knocked down 19 of 38 off the bench and has been getting extended run due to all the injuries. The Hens also average 14.3 turnovers per contest. Not having Anderson or Novakovich have hurt them in these 2 categories.
Allen, Mccoy, Carr and Painter have all received heavy minutes, with all 4 playing 33+ minutes in each of the 2 Hofstra games last weekend. Ochefu was held to just 8 and 10 minutes in the 2 games, respectively, despite the team only having 7 total bodies.
