UNCW vs. Delaware
Time to move on to our next opponent. The Delaware Blue Hens come to Trask this weekend (both games at 1 PM on Saturday/Sunday) to kick off a 4-game homestand for the Seahawks.

Delaware earned a split against Hofstra last weekend and are now 2-3 in the CAA, tied for 6th in the standings.

The Blue Hens have been pretty injury riddled this season. Most notably, starting senior G Kevin Anderson has been out since January 2nd with an ankle injury. Another starter, redshirt sophomore F Alex Novakovich, hasn't played since December 21st with a foot injury. This after losing Logan Curtis to a season-ending Achilles injury and Reggie Gardner to a shoulder injury until at least February prior to the season starting. Other minor injuries forced a postponement against William & Mary 2 weeks ago, as Delaware was down to just 5 healthy scholarship players at the time. Things have not improved much for the Blue Hens since, as just 7 players will likely be available this weekend.

With that said, here is Delaware's projected lineup and bench options:

Projected Starters

* PG Ryan Allen (6-2 Sr.): 14.4 ppg, 2.9 apg, 2.7 rpg, 0.3 spg
* G Johnny McCoy (6-5 So.): 5.1 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 1.2 spg, 1.9 apg
* G Gianmarco Aletti (6-6 Fr.): 4.5 ppg, 1.3 rpg, 0.4 spg, 0.9 apg
* PF Andrew Carr (6-9 Fr.): 8.4 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 0.7 bpg, 2.1 apg
* C Dylan Painter (6-10 r-Sr.): 12.5 ppg, 10.9 rpg, 1.1 bpg, 2.1 apg

Bench

* G Ebby Asamoah (6-4 So.): 9.0 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 1.2 spg, .500 3-pt %, 23.3 mpg
* F Anthony Ochefu (6-8 Sr.): 1.9 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 8.3 mpg

Delaware has been a poor 3-point shooting team (.323) overall, but Asamoah has knocked down 19 of 38 off the bench and has been getting extended run due to all the injuries. The Hens also average 14.3 turnovers per contest. Not having Anderson or Novakovich have hurt them in these 2 categories.

Allen, Mccoy, Carr and Painter have all received heavy minutes, with all 4 playing 33+ minutes in each of the 2 Hofstra games last weekend. Ochefu was held to just 8 and 10 minutes in the 2 games, respectively, despite the team only having 7 total bodies.

Two guys starting that are bigger than our biggest averaging 20 ppg between the two of them. With them being short on bodies if the game plan isn’t to run run run I’ll be highly disappointed!

Kinda shocking after coming off Towson. But I’ll take it! When was the last time we were +5 in conference game?

A few more than 7 players are warming up for the Hens pregame (looks like 10 total). Maybe they’re getting some bodies back and that’s why the line dropped slightly?

RE: UNCW vs. Delaware
Kevin Anderson is one of the Blue Hens players warming up. They might be getting him back, though it would likely be off the bench if so.

Anderson is averaging 12 ppg on the season, 3rd on the team.

RE: UNCW vs. Delaware
I don’t see Tolefree out there in warmups for us. As the Star News reported, there’s “no timetable” for Bowen’s return.

We may be down to 7 scholarship players today.

Delaware’s lineup is exactly as noted in the first post of the thread.

RE: UNCW vs. Delaware
2 questionable calls on Harvey knocks him out of the game for a while.

Dodd needs to step up in a big way today off the bench.

RE: UNCW vs. Delaware
UNCW shooting 38.% at 5-13 and 0-3 from three

Delaware 6-10 shooting 60%. 0-3 from three

We still can't put the ball in the basket.

I have a lot more questions now going well beyond our shooting percentage.

It all starts and ends there. Putting the ball in the basket changes everything. It allows you to press, eat up some of the shot clock, increase the pace of the game, get out on the break and play UNCW basketball. If we can't score, we can't run/defend/win.

Delaware just has size at every position, and they can all score outside and inside.

RE: UNCW vs. Delaware
Hawks up to 54% and the lead is 1. If we could hit the three at all, we'd be up +5 in this game right now.

RE: UNCW vs. Delaware
We’re playing tough basketball out there right now and scoring inside at will. Love it.
