RE: OT: BGSU Cuts Baseball program
PSU would definitely try to block Pitt. UVa would be a very interesting option

Ironically UN-L lost their accreditation just after joining the Big 10. If this had happened just a few years earlier they would have never been admitted. This is a status problem academically for Nebraska. This issue could also have been the reason SU was not considered. I could see Kansas joining The Big 10 with Pitt also coming in as an eastern counter-balance institution

Yeah, that would make quite a good deal of sense for both. I always thought that Syracuse was the next up on the eastern half for the same reasons you mention Pitt, but either one fits. Really, I think it's down to the votes at this point...PSU would do everything in their power to nix Pitt, there just doesn't seem to be anyone who would be viciously against Kansas. The whole mid-Atlantic/Tidewater expansion that was rumored for a bit there with UVA/VT/UNC to the Big 10 a few years back would've been intriguing too, but UNC owns the ACC, they'd have no incentive to leave.

The main reason Nebraska lost its AAU status is because its medical school is in Omaha and its research dollars doesn't doesn't count towards the main campus numbers. It is the lowest rated academic school in the Big Ten, though. BTW, Buffalo is a member.

Right now, all schools in the Big 10 have wrestling teams. Pitt and UVa still have wrestling. Syracuse and Kansas no longer have it. Given that 14 teams have wrestling, not sure if that would be a requirement to join the Big 10, but since wrestling continues to be a top sport for the Big 10, it may be a consideration of the 4 schools mentioned. Big 10 member teams have won the NCAA championship in a dominating fashion over the past 45 years winning it 35 times over that period. It is a big deal for the Big 10.

Looks like BG is mounting an effort to resurrect the baseball team. Looks like they might have not done this in a logical order. As the team is leaving the locker room, the coach and alumni are trying to save the program. Heard that they may have gotten $800K is commitments over 5 years in less than a day. This will be interesting to watch evolve.

Is that $800,000/year for 5 years or $800,000 total for 5 years. One means the program is a CF patient who gets a lung transplant, the other is worthless...either way, there's no feasible way to make that program survive long term.

Thought Justin Feldcamp 13 ABC said that the total pledged was $800K over 5 years. Agree that this is a lost cause for them. Following CMU as they are below the D 1 minimum. Still early in the game of musical chairs.
