RE: Coach Siddle on NC Sports Network
No offense but I cannot see Boggs playing the 4 spot in a Keatts style offense ,he has a chance to be really good and I don't think that fits him at all.

No offense taken. We both agree he has the ability to be really good. I still think that could be in a Keatts/Siddle style.

on The Fan/SportsChannel8: "I never want to play against Coach Keatts and I think he feels the same way. We've known each other so long. We don't like the idea of trying to beat one another."

That's a shame. Wonder about our UNC deal

Only 1 year left on it, it'll just run its course and not get renewed.
I just hope we have a LITTLE more competitive non-conference schedule than they types Keatts put together here. Nothing special, just maybe a few less non-DI games and 1 more buy game than we were used to seeing for those 3 years.

It makes sense. Beating your old coach can be embarrassing for both sides. Pitino only scheduled us when Keatts was here when the two teams were safely far apart, and only did so for one game. Roy scheduled us for 4 but had to know there was a low likelihood CB would beat him.
Right now, even with the roster turnover we might have, NC State isn't safely above us enough to justify a series or even a single buy game.
I do wish we did what VCU always put in the contracts with their coaches: A clause stating that, if/when the coach moved on to another job on his own volition, he had to schedule a series with VCU after he moved on. VCU got some fun non-conference home games with Oklahoma, Alabama and Texas that way after the departures of Capel, Anthony Grant and Shaka Smart.

RE: Coach Siddle on NC Sports Network
Much like Keatts, Siddle will have to adapt his preferred style over time, but I believe he will make roster moves this year to get there as soon as possible and that will likley involve not renewing scholarships.
The biggest issue Siddle will face is the five spot. Dodd is the most athletic player that fits the bill for the five in his style of play, but if we thought Cacok was undersized at 6'8", Dodd is 6'6". Where does he fit long term? And, who plays the most next year, Dodd or Linssen?
We have enough guards that he can make something work in that arena, but we are in desperate need at the five.

While i generally agree, if State did a 1 year deal, it's highly unlikely we'd beat them next year with that class coming in. The VCU approach is a solid one didn't realize they did that.

VCU was ahead of the curve on a lot of things, and its why they've had a lot of continuity and success in the A-10. They embraced the reality of being a "stepping stone", always being prepared well in advance for a coach's departure, until the point where they're now more of a destination.
They came up with the Villa 7 Consortium in 2004 where mid-majors could meet up with P5 assistants:
https://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/03/sport...aches.html
Quote:In 2004, V.C.U. created a networking meeting where administrators from midmajor programs could gather with a handpicked group of the country’s top assistants. Known as the Villa 7 Consortium, the meeting has grown from 32 attending to about 100 this year, helping 59 former assistants land coaching jobs around the country — including Smart at V.C.U.

Where do you think Bass met Keatts and formed a relationship that brought him to UNCW?

McGrath scheduled 6 Non-D1s to Keatts 5 Non-D1s over 3 years. While McGrath scheduled tougher competition when it came to the non conference D1s, I'd rather see us go back to playing they type of schedules that we had under Keatts. Maybe I'm crazy but I like winning basketball games in December. Which McGrath never did against a Non-Conference D1 opponent in his entire tenure.

Got to play some decent games. You don't want to win 30 games, slip up in the finals and get left out. Not to mention, it gets you ready to play against the big dogs in March. Exposing your guys to a mix of tougher games and winnable games gives them a chance to test winning, but also go against better comp. IMO that's a perfect balance to get ready for conf play.
