RE: COVID-19
I was talking to one of my old sources (for NCAA stuff) and he said it is almost a sure thing that, before Jan. 1, the NCAA will announce that it will be April Madness this year, as the whole tournament will be played in April (in Indy). This will allow for the month of March to be used for makeup games, of which they expect to be a multitudinous amount.
The key here is that the NCAA (and college basketball) simply can not afford to miss a second consecutive nearly billion dollar payday, from a cancelled Championship tournament.
He said they expect there to be a wide spread in the number of games that teams, even in the same conference, will actually get played, due to postponements, cancellations, etc. So far, no minimum number has been set for how many games a team will need to play to be eligible for the tournament, but he told me a lot of people think teams will be lucky to get even half of their 26 games in the books, if things with COVID get crazy this winter.
Should be interesting.

I had heard about Delaware, but none of this about JMU. Interesting...

I read that fans/students won't be permitted to attend games. I saw nothing beyond that.

Still haven’t heard anything about this. I’m not convinced the poster didn’t confuse us with Delaware.

RE: COVID-19
One advantage that W&M may have is the great discipline that our campus has had toward COVID 19 and the few cases on campus. Assuming this spirit continues thru the MBB season, this will be an advantage to W&M along with our expected 10 player deep bench. Playing games in the CAA on back to back days every weekend will give us a strategic advantage in the second games with the deeper bench and the expected greater focus on defense.

I know for a fact that JMU had to shut down both their men's and women's programs earlier in the year (I think around mid-October) but haven't heard anything from them recently.

Yup, for sure. But is that what bubbadog57 was referencing on 11/17?

What I read was included in the Clemson story last week. They made it seem like it was right now but, who knows, perhaps they were including the earlier JMU problem.

All good. I was mostly interested that you might have a scoop on something unknown to any of us on the JMU board. It was just old info.

JMU posters will turn this into a W&M Christmas tree ornament.

I hate that joke. Similarly to how much I hate toothpaste jokes about Colgate U. Easy jokes usually suck.

It's cute when people say/write it like they're the first to come up with it.

Ive said it again and again that WM should embrace the parallel and put our logo on the side of a dumptruck carrying the trashcan with opposing teams mascot. Waste Management does exactly that...takes care of the trash. Its a compliment to us.

If this needs to be in Off Topic, please move it, but here's a story about "A team of undergraduates at William & Mary has earned high honors in the world’s largest synthetic biology competition for engineering a potential COVID-19 therapeutic."
Good to see our students stepping up.

Why would that need to go to the OT thread?

Whose rule is that? That's suddenly a rule when someone doesn't like the direction of a topic. You're fine.
This is a W&M thread, not just Tribe athletics. We've discussed changing building names, politicians who earned W&M degrees, W&M history, professors, university rankings, etc.

Dr. Saha... another fan favorite in the Biology department.
Hope the students get the recognition they deserve if this proves widely viable and that the funding gods open the floodgates on the program.
