That's in synch with what I'm seeing and my physician told me. My guess is that we will be back to near normal in about April of 2022.

And then there's the part about tens of millions of people who will refuse to get the vaccine. That's when the fur is really going to fly. This is one of those times when I would support a top down, Federal intervention for public health and safety.

Thankfully we should be able to reach a good level of herd immunity even if not 100% of the population is vaccinated or has the antibodies.

Frankly, other than the tv contract, why are they playing as the virus sweeps across the nation in horrific fashion and 3000+ people are dying every day now.?

Spare me the histrionics.

Wow. Histrionics? Overly simplistic view. If the virus is spreading unchecked, we should be more responsible and these asymptomatic youth are a big part of source control. 3000 dead PER DAY and rising. This is hardly "hysteria." Its about the greater good. The competition is hardly a necessity. The mission of supporting the athletes remains- getting a scholarship and going to college.

The Va Gazette story reported 71 positive virus cases at W&M. Also 214 positive virus cases at ODU - BUT ODU enrollment is 3X W&M enrollment; which probably works out to be about 1% - Hallelujah!!

Per the article, ODU ran 8,100 tests and WM 7,400 tests, so we're actually faring a lot better than they are percentage wise.

I think this is a case where we should be happy that a "rival" is doing well. It's not a competition.

100%. I hope that both schools being close geographically helps get stories written, too.

Virginia Tech players vote to end season. Apparently "Nearly three-quarters of Virginia Tech's football team contracted the virus this season, as did eight of the school's 10 full-time coaches, according to the AD"

Plenty of other schools have made the same decision; I think I've seen BC, UVA, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Louisville, and San Diego State all decide to opt out of bowls - and I'm sure there will be more.

From a team's perspective it makes sense. It's been a long season, and I'm sure players want to go home and see their families. No fans will be at most of these bowl games, and there won't be the usual hoopla/bowl festivities either. Basically just an additional road game that may or may not happen, depending on how the virus progresses.

BC opted out of a possible Bowl game, even though, unlike VT, there was only one reported positive result.

The same article (on the Washington Post site) that listed those teams (above) also stated that LSU was proactively removing itself from bowl consideration as an advance on an expected upcoming NCAA sanction. Yep, get credit for self-imposed sanctions during a year that nobody cares about anyway ....

LSU statement, "Out of an abundance of caution and concern for the safety of our future bowl revenues, we have decided to voluntarily not accept any bowl offers for this season. Let's face it, we were going to the Weedeater/Tidy Bowl this year in Shreveport and next season we might have a pulse on the field and be able to make the playoff again."

I guess if I want to go on a safe weekend trip, I should go to Blacksburg. sounds like they have achieved herd immunity there.

Based on the VA COVID dashboard, not unless you're planning to spend your vacation only with the football team. 7 day average of new cases is as high as it's been except when school came back in session in September.

Funny how teams having subpar seasons are no longer interested in bowl games.

Plus, lots of expenses for what? Not sure why the bowl games are even on other than the TV money. Any stimulus for the localities involving fans is lost.

W&M to ship each student a free Covid test before the spring return to campus. Way to be proactive.

Also funny that teams having a great year are getting turned down by bowls.

"College sports have been a hypocritical enterprise for a long time; any sober assessment of the last half-century reached that conclusion. But now hypocrisy is part of the mission statement. Football has been stripped down to what it really is: lucrative TV programming. In 2020, it didn’t matter whether playing was safe for surrounding communities or even whether students were on campus."
