Want to place money in that POV? They offer, he is gone. No AAC school keeps their coaches. We poached a guy on the firing line from West Virginia and that hire looks like crap.

If that were true he would already be at WVU.

He might take the MSU job, because it's a decent B1G job. It won't be because of the money. He's a different dude. I'm ok if he does take it. I like the in house replacement.

It might be tempting to him because it is a solid job. I don't think he is necessarily gone.

I believe Ryan Day has 1 or 2 more years and he is off the the NFL.
Fickle is bringing in good talent this year and already has two 10 win seasons
on his resume. Unless the Buckeyes thru back channels told him he is not a candidate on the AD's list, IMHO believe he is leaving for OSU when Day moves on.

When the OSU job opens again, both Fickell and Matt Campbell will be top candidates.

I don't think they'd even consider him...he's .500 at a mid-level Big 12 job, there is no evidence he could be successful at a school like Ohio State. I don't quite get the fascination with Campbell in general.

I will say, if Fickell stays, and that's still a big if, it will basically mean the list of schools he would leave for is whittled down to a handful. Turning down MSU basically leaves OSU, ND, Penn St, and maybe Wisconsin on the list of schools I'd actually worry about him leaving for.

The Tiger's last two coaches left because (besides money) it is possible to win a NC at Virginia Tech and especially Fl St. If Fickell takes the Mich St job, the only reason is money.

I don't think the "if" is as big as you imagine it to be.

Yeah, that's a weird statement to make. Based on Fickell's own comments in The Athletic, if he takes another job, it will be to win a NC, not for money.

No one has any idea what Fickell will do, but we do the MSU job is a real possibility. That makes it a big if. It will remain that way until Fickell says one way or another.

I'm not saying he won't stay. But it would be folly to think that it isn't up in the air right now.

@freep
The frontrunner to replace Mark Dantonio as Michigan State football coach is Luke Fickell, according to sources with knowledge of the athletic department's thinking.

Just saw this. You beat me to it. He gone.

We'll see

Fickell would be a great choice.

Doesn't mean MSU at this time would be a great move for him. Sounds like there could be some recruiting violation issues. You basically lose a year of recruiting with the late resignation. He may decide MSU is worth it, but hard to know what he wants. I do know he's declined interest in several P5 jobs the last two seasons.

As did Mike Norvell. Cincy has a good team returning, as does Memphis. Was told by Norvell himself that the only jobs he'd consider leaving Memphis for would be Notre Dame or LSU (his dream job). Proud to be part of this great community, I AM a Memphian, would be extremely hard to leave Memphis.....Hello Florida State, goodbye Mike Norvell. I really hope he stays at Cincy and tells MSU to F-off, so good luck Cincy.

You really don't need to lecture any Cincinnati fans about the two-faced nature of rising coaches...Mark Dantonio, Brian Kelly, and Butch Jones are in the back of that classroom laughing their asses off.

At least if Fick goes, I know he'll do it with class and dignity. And he'll have left the program in much better shape than he found it.

I feel like Florida State is a much better job than Michigan State, just saying. Florida State when they are on top is an elite football program and can recruit from all over the country. It's probably a top 10 job in college football. Michigan State is probably more like top 20-30. Also taking over a program after NSD is tough, the timing is really bad for MSU.

The exact reason why I'd be a lot more worried if this job opened up in December. Early February is a really tough time for all parties. Maybe he goes, maybe he stays.. what is known is UC is in a really good spot moving forward.

Michigan St has never won a NC from both the AP and Coaches Poll or by any other generally recognized measure (eg., BCS) in the same year. Michigan St won the NC in 1965 (Coaches Poll only) and 1952 (AP only).

Michigan St is at a significant disadvantage in the B-10. It will be unusual to beat out Ohio St, Mich, Wisc, and Penn St in a given year.

If Sabin could not win the NC at Mich St, then it is very unlikely any other coach could achieve the feat.

In the past 12 hours, UC has committed and signed 3 kids who rank 3rd, 4th, and 7th in our class. Fickell's going nowhere.

What coaches say and what they do concerning jobs is often entirely contradictory.

Relying on a coach's word is a perilous risk, IMO.

However, Fickell's credence will be elevated if he turns down an offered Mich St. job.

Did you not see what I posted? Michigan St. made the playoffs. The college football championship final four playoffs! Vatech has never won a national championship or even made the playoffs. Of the B10 schools you listed only OSU has made the playoffs. Since the beginning of the CFP the only Big10 team not named Ohio State has been Michigan St.

Is it easy to win a natty with MSU? Of course not. But I don't think it is easy for any school
