Honestly, this is a pretty good scenario for Cincinnati...if MSU had dropped Dantonio after the regular season like they should have then Fickell would be much more likely to take this job if offered. Instead, MSU is left scrambling for a coach after both signing days. I don't know that Fickell stays at Cincy if offered by MSU, but it's a hell of a lot more likely now.

i guess they want to travel the Ohio State DC -> Cincy HC -> Michigan St HC path again.

He can have another 10 win season and get a better job next year... Southern Cal, UCLA, Virginia Tech.... Dominoes might open up Penn State or another big job. Dantonio had really outdone it there... MSU is not an elite job by any measure.

Disclaimer: I -through family and friends- am a Spartan fan.

With that said, I agree that the MSU job ain’t all that and think Fickell would be a fool to leave Cinci for it. This is not a dig on MSU; it’s just reality. They compete in a tough division in a tough conference. It’s not an elite job by any measure and they will be lucky to keep winning at the same rate they have been for the past decade.

Still closing recruits. They are at least still buying what he is selling. 4* WR with lower P5 offer sheet.

Fickell would be a great choice.

Doesn't mean MSU at this time would be a great move for him. Sounds like there could be some recruiting violation issues. You basically lose a year of recruiting with the late resignation. He may decide MSU is worth it, but hard to know what he wants. I do know he's declined interest in several P5 jobs the last two seasons.

Want to place money in that POV? They offer, he is gone. No AAC school keeps their coaches. We poached a guy on the firing line from West Virginia and that hire looks like crap.

Not true in this case. He has turned down opportunities at P5 schools in the past to stay in Cincinnati. He is unlike most coaches in his position. Look at how long he stayed at OSU as an assistant before looking at head coaching positions elsewhere.
