RE: FOX WINS MOUNTAIN WEST RIGHTS FROM ESPN
P5 is something just made up by the media (ESPN). All that has to happen is for ESPN to start calling the AAC a P6 conference and we are one. Everyone else will fall in line. The money can and will come at a later point. The AAC/ESPN should be aggressive, grab BYU/BST/SDSU and let Fox's new property waste away. ESPN has done it before.

3x-6x media & bowl revenue would say otherwise.

The AAC/ESPN should be aggressive, grab BYU/BST/SDSU...
ESPN has done it before.
.
Exactly,
and it needn't be BYU or BSU.
SDSU and AF FB would add comparable value.

Because we are still labeled a "G5", which is my point. Call us a P6 and see what happens, especially with those additions.

If you're looking at today's numbers in a narrowly quantitative manner without considering the synergies and qualitative improvements over a 3-5 year transition period, maybe the revenue might seem to "say otherwise."
But this is not about today's revenue numbers. This is a business proposition, and business decisions are made based on the effects over the next 5, 10, or 20+ years.
Even in the first two seasons, a solid MWC add would benefit the conference & its broadcasters - at the very least - by helping to bolster AAC viewership after the loss of UConn's regional viewership.
By year 3, if not sooner, the growth curve will begin to kick in.

You post this crap everywhere and it simply isnt true. The three you listed are WAYYYYYYYU farther away than AF.
Air Force is literally in a border state to FOUR of our conference mates. BYU, BSU and SDSU are not.
Have you ever been to these locations? AF is a short flight and then a 45 minute drive for almost all teams in the west.
SDSU is in san diego and it is a nightmare to drive from the Air Port to the stadium. Expect a long ass wait. Boise.... freaking christ. Its in the middle of nowhere and is a MUCH further flight. BYU is the only one that is relatively easy to get to but its still a full state further away than AF.
We're not walking to these games. San Diego is a great destination, great climate, lots to do year - round with direct flights from all over the country. The school is an urban university with much in common with most AAC schools & it has competitive sports. BYU generally fits the same description with a very good fan base. I clearly indicated BSU was a weak 3rd choice. But we are still left with AF moving no needles, small school, relatively difficult travel & it's another option FB program to get our players hurt. You have your opinion, I have mine. Mine is based in logic, yours seems to be based on emotion & name calling.
https://mwwire.com/2019/08/18/san-diego-...-fan-fest/
jus to add, if San Diego St can get this rolling and done soon, they would be a nice add.
Personally, I prefer CSU over BSU. I feel like BSU is not the same dominant force they once were - yes, they are competitive but main reason is that they would want to join with stipulations favoring them like in the MW and does the AAC really want to deal with that? Let's ask Colorado, TAMU and Missouri how that worked with Texas in the Big 12.
If a 8 playoff is coming, it would be beneficial for the American to sit down with BYU, CSU, SDSU with CSU being the bridge to BYU and both schools being a bridge to the Aztecs

Mine is based on viewership numbers. WTF are you talking about. You are literally pushing for a team that is on the other freaking side of the country whos highest rated game had 285K viewers. Do you even realize how bad that is?
I dont care if a team is competitive. We already have MANY competitive teams. I care about INCOME and for that you have to have VIEWERS. Air Force has those AND its within our footprint which makes sense to add.
Why go three further states out and two time zones just to add a poorly watched team that is hard to drive to. My sister lives in San Diego... its beautiful and a pain in the Azz to drive in.
You talk about what is common in the AAC.... we have private schools, public schools and a service academy. Anything fits into our conference.... and we are the "American". What fits better than our armed forces for marketing.
Is that enough Logic for you? (and btw, I never called you a name... I said what you were posting was crap, which a statement based on your argument and not what you are. Its a message board. Lighten up Francis)
Within our footprint? Where'd you take geography? AF is 700 miles and a 10 hour drive WEST of our closest FB program to the east. No one is driving that distance for a FB game. And TX isn't a border state (that is meaningless giving the distances anyway). The only potential members "within our footprint" would be east of Tulsa & SMU, like AF none move the needle - and quoting near best of poor MWC ratings doesn't move the AAC needle in the +$$ direction either. SDSU in the AAC would get much better TV numbers than they see in the MWC, it is a much better destination & adds an urban university member - where the AAC media strength lies. AF is not Navy & will never have the Navy following.
Stay put at 11 (the overwhelming preference among current member school admins) or if we go west add BYU, BSU & SDSU.
BYU/Army aren't coming...
moreover, AF would only be coming for football so travel costs would be mitigated by putting all their other sports in the Summit League.
AF has a damn good football program with a big national following. That said, They can't really compete with teams like SDSU, UNLV, Nevada, Boise, New Mexico, Utah State, etc in hoops. On the flip side teams like Denver, Oral Roberts, South Dakota, Omaha, South Dakota State, etc offer easy travel and beatable competition for AF.

I do not care which school we invite assuming the numbers crunch in the right direction.
I view the potential Fox Sports development as an opportunity to hamstring the MWC and elevate the AAC.

I have always liked SDSU and if this happens it only enhances that. I would prefer SDSU, BYU and Air Force for football only. That would really elevate the league.
Air Force, Navy, BYU, Houston, SMU, Tulsa, SDSU
UCF, USF, ECU, Temple, Cincy, Memphis, Tulane
I feel like this would be nice. Then you can add some b-ball games as well.

BYU already has their new tv deal wrapped up and Boise will get theirs revised as well... Boise burned their BigEast/AAC bridge long ago so them ever been a part of the AAC never going to happen.
Spinning wheels with them two or even anyone from the West, IMHO

At this point we'd be lucky to keep the UConn revenue if we added a SDSU/VCU combo which would be a steal for ESPiN!!!!!
Now I understand why ESPiN is renegotiating, at this point if I were Aresco I would take the negotiations to the open market, or at least threaten to do that.
The problem is that there is limited space on CBS until 2024.

Well---it aint really that much money. Furthermore, unless the top SEC game of the week is going to be shoe horned into a crappy 9pm or 10pm eastern time zone window (you really think the SEC is gunna go for that?)---then the two matters arent really related. The idea would be for ESPN to skim off 6-18 games of the better Mountain West MT/PT zone games for around 7 to 21 million (depending on if they add 1 or 3 MW teams). Thats all they really need.
If they win the Boise contract, they might be able to get by with just adding one MW team to the AAC. They could potentially slide a few central zone AAC starts back to 8;30 or 9:00 to make up the difference. Thats the cheapest way to fill those lost late night starts at this point.

Thread after thread after thread are created with the same speculation involving some form of Air Force, Boise, BYU, Army, SDSU and CSU.
You're going to have to extend your list because none of those teams are coming here.
Few of those programs add legitimate value, viewership, and prestige in football. The one or two that have all those qualities the AAC covets has no interest in joining the AAC. You are simply wasting your time with this.
I'm thinking you're looking at a CUSA/MAC member like App State, which won't enjoy full revenue sharing until year 5 or 6 and pair that with a solid mid major bball addition.

air force more or less publicly insinuated they want aac like 3 or 4 times publicly
sdsu publicly stated distance was the only reason they didnt stay...and are technically still part of the acc

and app state has been playing basketball since 1930..they have 2 tournament appearances...they arent a solid bball program not to the conferences standard..

He wasn't talking about App States basketball, he was talking about adding them football only and adding a VCU/SLU/Dayton type program.

I doubt it. If your goal is being seen as "P6"---then there isnt really a football school east of the Rockies that will do much for that effort. While I understand that the P6 thing is really marketing---it is important in putting the league in the best position possible when the CFP is renegotiated in 6 years.
Now, sure---there are some teams that win located east of the Rockies. But there arent any schools east of the Rockies with the kind of significant brand, budget, ratings, and/or support to really help build up the "P6" conference image. Whoever you add from east of the Rockies is going to look much more like the bottom schools of the AAC than they would represent its top. You get stronger as a conference by adding to the top---or at least the middle. You don't generally improve your league by adding to the bottom of the conference.
So, BYU, AF, and Army remain the AAC's only real viable football playing targets. Absent them, then I could see a key non-football addition like VCU getting in if they are interested. If not---the AAC is probably better off standing pat until they can add a school (be it as a full , "football only", or non-football member) that represents the upper half of the league.

BYU isn't coming, they inked a deal already with AAC/ESPN fully knowing they will need to replace UConn, among other reasons.
Neither Air Force nor Army are "P6" moves. Sure, eyeballs and probably can market the whole "American Athletic Conference" branding, but as far as football is concerned, not a great move. And there are several more significant issues that would need to be addressed. Neither are legitimate options right now. And honestly, not sure either are terribly interested.
I'm not saying App State is the best option, but if the conference has to add one, they will have to go with something like that for football and mid-major add in bball. Everyone in this thread, past threads, and in future threads continue to focus on programs that will not be making that move for one reason or another. There is no obvious addition here.

Then the AAC does not add except for BB. The money per college should not change much. If you think otherwise, please post internet site.
