RE: FOX WINS MOUNTAIN WEST RIGHTS FROM ESPN
Part of the reason for 3 teams as opposed to just 1 Football and 1 Olympics is to entice BYU to join the AAC if they come as a group (Full membership w/Football),that would make non revenue sports scheduling budget somewhat easier.

If it is top 5 conference champs + 3 at-large, that's the signal we have been left at the kid's table for good. So we better hope that ESPN wants the former, and to do that, we need their blessing to kill the MWC. We need a P6 and G4, officially. We need a Cotton bowl auto-birth, $15M per year per team min, and autonomous voting rights. If it costs every team in this conference a 10 year GOR, then that's just what it costs.
We need Air Force, Boise, and CSU. If BYU wants to replace CSU or Boise, I'd be happy with that. Let the rest of the MW flounder and founder.
"IF" the playoff is expanded to 8, we need to have a hardcore sitdown with BYU, Boise St and Air Force about making a 14 team conference.... and then trying to get P6 recognition along with an automatic spot in the playoff like the other P programs will be getting.
Then we work to make it so that the G4 has their own playoff separate. Some of the G4 have wanted to have a separate playoff anyhow, but if a P6 exists and we dont get an AQ, then were in a bad long term position... and theres no way they will give us an AQ AND the G4 a spot.
We would have to take the very best pieces left and convince the powers that be, that there really isnt a need to include the G4 anymore. I know it sounds harsh, but thats the long term reality were looking at.

Nothing against AF but they move no needles & actually create travel issues. If 3 are added, it should be BYU, BSU & SDSU. And of those 3 BSU is a weak 3rd in many respects including travel. Who wants to play in Boise in Nov? San Diego, as a large urban city & a competitive sports program with a great climate, they should be a top choice but only if we go west at all.

You post this crap everywhere and it simply isnt true. The three you listed are WAYYYYYYYU farther away than AF.
Air Force is literally in a border state to FOUR of our conference mates. BYU, BSU and SDSU are not.
Have you ever been to these locations? AF is a short flight and then a 45 minute drive for almost all teams in the west.
SDSU is in san diego and it is a nightmare to drive from the Air Port to the stadium. Expect a long ass wait. Boise.... freaking christ. Its in the middle of nowhere and is a MUCH further flight. BYU is the only one that is relatively easy to get to but its still a full state further away than AF.

Someone does need to explain the massive desire on this board for AF and CSU. Neither of them are exceptionally competitive in either revenue sport.

14 team conference complete.
The only way Boise and SDSU will ‘save face’ and consider that is if AAC(FormerBigEast) “re-joins” the P6(BCS) coalition.
That’s probably the main reason they pulled out before. Fix that, ESPN, and there’s a real possibility.
CSU or AFA? Both have their points and if they can deregulate the championship game then add both for 15, or +BYU and one more each in central/East for 18.

We're not walking to these games. San Diego is a great destination, great climate, lots to do year - round with direct flights from all over the country. The school is an urban university with much in common with most AAC schools & it has competitive sports. BYU generally fits the same description with a very good fan base. I clearly indicated BSU was a weak 3rd choice. But we are still left with AF moving no needles, small school, relatively difficult travel & it's another option FB program to get our players hurt. You have your opinion, I have mine. Mine is based in logic, yours seems to be based on emotion & name calling.

Thats not really true. Air Force has some of the best tv ratings of any MW team outside of Boise. They have a win/loss records in the Navy range and are popular with the bowls. The AF location is reasonable for travel and---most importantly---they are a "football only" addition----so there is no extra expense hauling our non-revenue sports to that location. The reality? The Air Force trip for 5 teams would be one game every other year (and its less for the 6 schools not in the same division with AF). Its a solid addition if we can get Air Force (and its one that the league members have already approved and hotly pursued in the past). On the other hand, the exact same conference presidents basically agreed with SDSU that a lone western SDSU outpost doesnt really work for them or us (and that was when SDSU was just a "football only"----the objections only get louder when the discussion moves to SDSU being a stand alone western "all sports" addition).

Colorado State has a new stadium (I think) and a decent history. Air Force adds some eyeballs nationally. Maybe more political clout having 2 academies. Both are a huge upgrade to UConn.
Honestly it comes down to what ESPN wants and if they can find a home for other sports.

The reality is that the Academies have a massive national and global presence, we may not think so but the media companies actually love them.
Example:
Military Bowl, Armed forces Bowl, all the the efforts to broadcast events internationally to our service men and women, especially during the holidays, wish it occurred more often than that.
The football part of this was so successful that now College basketball is also involved with the games on the Aircraft Carriers and other references to the military.
... and then there is potential political influence, I don't think it is there int today's political environment.

Mine is based on viewership numbers. WTF are you talking about. You are literally pushing for a team that is on the other freaking side of the country whos highest rated game had 285K viewers. Do you even realize how bad that is?
I dont care if a team is competitive. We already have MANY competitive teams. I care about INCOME and for that you have to have VIEWERS. Air Force has those AND its within our footprint which makes sense to add.
Why go three further states out and two time zones just to add a poorly watched team that is hard to drive to. My sister lives in San Diego... its beautiful and a pain in the Azz to drive in.
You talk about what is common in the AAC.... we have private schools, public schools and a service academy. Anything fits into our conference.... and we are the "American". What fits better than our armed forces for marketing.
Is that enough Logic for you? (and btw, I never called you a name... I said what you were posting was crap, which a statement based on your argument and not what you are. Its a message board. Lighten up Francis)

Holy hell, you are so wrong it is painful. Getting to the stadium from the airport in San Diego takes 15 minutes. I can damn near see both from my office! No mountain passes, no snow. Case in point: Houston to SD is a 3.5 hr flight. Houston to Colorado Springs is 2.5 hr flight, then an hour drive to the academy at best.
Rarely do you get the best case scenario in Colorado during the winter.
San Diego is not the outlier you make it to be.

Within our footprint? Where'd you take geography? AF is 700 miles and a 10 hour drive WEST of our closest FB program to the east. No one is driving that distance for a FB game. And TX isn't a border state (that is meaningless giving the distances anyway). The only potential members "within our footprint" would be east of Tulsa & SMU, like AF none move the needle - and quoting near best of poor MWC ratings doesn't move the AAC needle in the +$$ direction either. SDSU in the AAC would get much better TV numbers than they see in the MWC, it is a much better destination & adds an urban university member - where the AAC media strength lies. AF is not Navy & will never have the Navy following.
Stay put at 11 (the overwhelming preference among current member school admins) or if we go west add BYU, BSU & SDSU.

Colorado is connected to Kansas and Oklahoma... so, they are within the area that the rest of our teams are already in. Does that definition work for you Nancy?
You cited their geography as a problem, which obviously it isnt considering they are the closest of all the teams you mentioned. Any other questions?
AF has similar tv ratings as Navy, so your assertion they dont move the needle is wrong... again. They are significantly ahead of SDSU and equal to Boise St. They are only slightly behind BYU. Not another G5 has equal ratings.
This is why ever analyst says they are a good choice and then there is you.

Regarding the bolded....ehh not so much.
Army-Navy is clearly a one-of-a-kind thing, but that highlights that Navy-AF and Army-AF have never come close. CBS tried moving them from CBSSN to the big channel and ESPN has put Army-AF on the main ESPN. Always right around a million viewers.
Looking at conference games AF-Boise did 895k viewers, but AF-CSU only 229k.
Navy UConn Friday night on ESPN2, 742k. Navy Memphis on Thursday night ESPN 730. Navy Houston 411. Not world beaters (I remember being disappointed in Memphis and Houston, as well as this year's ND number for that matter).
Sure AF was victim of the poor mwc timeslot. Thoughts and prayers for them. But there is not much data out there supporting that AF draws as well as Navy

Air Force is literally in a border state to FOUR of our conference mates. BYU, BSU and SDSU are not.
Have you ever been to these locations? AF is a short flight and then a 45 minute drive for almost all teams in the west.

FYI..... surely you know, there are no AAC FB playing member schools in Kansas. And thanks to slhNavy91 for correcting the record on AF TV ratings. And while we are on Navy I have an idea there are many Navy fans who would love to have a conference game in San Diego.

To be fair, not sure those Navy numbers would be the same at 10pm. In fact, Navy made a big deal about only playing in the afternoon in their most recent deal. That said, assuming time slot and networks are the same, I would think Navy would get better ratings. They are the better brand.
As you know, CBS-Sports is not rated by AC Neilson. Furthermore, CBS-Sports is the tier one rights owner in the MW and they tend to select all the best AF games---which is why you dont find many AF games to even check the ratings on. If your seeing a MW game rated on an ESPN network (outside of the Boise games)---that means that CBS-Sports passed on the game first. In fact----thats the main reason its safe to assume that Air Force is among the top ratings draw in the MW. CBS-Sports selects most of the Boise (conference road games) and the Air Force games first before ESPN even gets a chance to pick. They wouldnt do that if other games drew better.

All good points.
Another reason CBSSN favors AF games, though, is their branding as "Home of Service Academy Football" rather than pure viewership. Splitting hairs - it speaks to the value as a brand, but I can fully endorse your fourth sentence.
Navy's push - and what went into our membership contract - was for SATURDAY games. A Thursday or Friday night game at NMCMS would be a nightmare for traffic etc, and would make MACtion attendance look good. CBSSN likes having us as a 3:30 anchor. I honestly don't know what that clause says about Saturday evening - part of the Saturdays-only is also to be good neighbors...getting Travis Pastrana's Nitro Circus at NMCMS was quite the saga...
