Yep.
No word on whether it's Ark State or Georgia State that go to Arizona, but all signs point to Southern in Orlando.
What's the word about where Liberty is going? I think Liberty would give Southern a great shot at a win but that would certainly remove some of the luster from the game as a casual observer.
Unless App or Boise goes to the Access Bowl, the AAC literally has to invite Liberty to the Cure Bowl. They have 7 eligible teams and 7 bowl slots, if Memphis or Cincy make the Access Bowl, then that empty slot in the AAC has to go to Liberty for the Cure Bowl based on their agreement.
AAC doesn't have to short the Cure. They can short ServPro First Responders.
Well, the agreement with Liberty is specifically for the Cure Bowl. Even if it wasn't, why would the AAC short a game on ESPN vs one on CBSSN?

I'll echo those sentiments. It's pretty obvious Southern fans and players want to go to Orlando, but it really all hinges on what the Camellia Bowl wants to do since they pick ahead of Cure.
According to Big Frank, Camellia isn't too keen on taking the same team twice in a row even though they did so in 2015/16 with App. He also said that Arizona is not in play for Southern.
I believe it was Ty Philips that said post game that the players want the Cure Bowl, and the word is that the interest between Southern and the bowl is very high and mutual. Their director was at the game Saturday as well.
It's all up in the air right now. Both Southern and StAte have excellent reasons why they could go to either the Camellia Bowl or the Cure Bowl. I think both fanbases prefer to go to Orlando.

Because Temple supposedly wants to play in Florida rather than Texas

AState fans really haven't coalesced behind one or the other. Some like Monty because of the travel. Some like Orlando because of the cancer angle and the chance to face Hugh Freeze.

The only time a Sun Belt school can go to a non-SBC bowl, is if they are selected for NY6, or there are more eligible teams than SBC bowl slots, and are invited outside of conference. At least, the commissioners office has said as such.
Obviously we don't have more eligible teams, so the Belk Bowl isn't happening.
It's Cotton, New Orleans, or Mobile for App.

According to WKU fans they did this to them a few years ago. Not sure where WKU ended up going.
As I said earlier, the ESPN projection of App in the Belk Bowl and Liberty to Arizona to backfill the Sun Belt made sense. ESPN insiders may have some knowledge of angles that the network is pushing by this point in the year.
However, it's probably Mobile or New Orleans for App. Just beat Louisiana and go where you go.
Preferably, beat Louisiana bad enough that a sloppy win by Cincinnati and loss by Boise, or close win, propels App to the top of the heap for the Cotton Bowl. Then pray that Alabama isn't placed there as well. Many people remember what happened when Hawaii and Georgia played.

Perhaps. Perhaps not. Depends on what's available.
If the Sun Belt has been working behind the scenes on this, it would make sense to get a match-up of Louisiana and Louisiana Tech on the line while both programs have solid teams. Playing the game in New Orleans would be good fun as well.
The hanger would be the contract if App wins the CCG, and who backfills Arizona?

This is where I believe Bonagura may have some insider information concerning programming and match-ups. He has Liberty backfilling a Sun Belt vacancy in Arizona with the other four slots filled, including Louisiana in NOLA. He has App in the Belk Bowl.
That could be nothing or it could be something. The closer the end of the year gets, the more information about ESPN's desires they have access to. Even though some bowls aren't owned by ESPN, ESPN almost certainly has some leverage to push match-ups. In the case of App to Belk, I'd assume the ACC would be the primary complainant, if they were to complain at all.
But you have those pesky contracts.

NOLA would never turn down Louisiana, and as much as it makes me want to puke to say it: Liberty

They are 7-5 with two FCS wins. I take it that qualifies them with 6 wins toward eligibility? At this point, I'd guess a Bowl game is something Southern fans didn't envision with the way the season started so they will take it, but it'd be ideal for Liberty not to become synonymous with what will become one of the higher profile bowl games for the Sun Belt once it moves to ESPN.
Some of us didn't freak out and knew we would be OK. Some....well they think the world is coming to an end at the first loss.
I had us at 7-5 before the season started, and the only ones I missed were that I thought we would have lost to Appy and would have beat stAte. I'm glad I was wrong about the Appy game!
Depending on how this weekend goes, you may have cost your athletic department money.
Congratulations!
Nope, you're wrong Eric, GS didn't cost the SB money, App did. When you are the better team and lose, it's called a choke. The next step App needs to take is to beat teams we all know they are better than.

Damn Straight!
Not Georgia Southern or anyone else's job to throw rose petals to soften the road. The job is to make it hard as hell so championships mean something.

RE: Bowls — who goes where?
Shawn Elliott remarked on Georgia State's bowl prospects on 92.9 this morning. He said he thinks they'll announce which bowl they are going to in the next couple of days before the Conference Championship game. He said plans are already being made for travel and at the end of the interview hinted at the Arizona Bowl.

Tongue in cheek comment, not to be taken literally about who cost who money. App has had issues with Georgia Southern's defense two years running, incidentally coinciding with Sloan's arrival there.
I guess App is their Superb Owl so it makes sense they get up especially hard for that game. Then they get 10 days to lose to ULM afterward.

Oh man, I didn't realize it was a super bowl! We are very fortunate to even make it to a 2nd super bowl this season. (P.J. Fleck also claimed our game vs. Minnesota was our super bowl).

It is the go to comment in just about any sport when a team with a better record loses, or almost loses to a team with a worse one, and their fans can't explain it.
