I don’t think they will but could see it if there are any big donors who would want Bailiff.

Tiki, I was thinking the same thing. He’s obviously having success this season, albeit in a lower level (?). If he has a couple of seasons where his teams go deep in the play-offs, or actually win the whole thing.. we may find him back on the sidelines in CUSA... or maybe better.

I remember when this board was slurping up Mehringer. The
guy is an idiot if you’ve ever been around him. Low iq, scummy vibe etc.. Don’t care if he played here.

I’ve got pretty good sources on this one. Don’t believe any of that.

Stranger things have happened, but I would think that if he wants another shot in FBS then he first needs to move up to FCS and have a few good years there.

Keep waiting for UH to announce Dana’s firing twice since he failed to achieve the Khator Line of less than 4 losses twice. But Tilman is the AD and pretty close to school President these days so Dana is safe for a while unless Tilman needs to use his cash to finally get his longtime dream, a hotel resort casino on the strip. I have to admit his try at the Caesar’s properties was very creative but no one fell for it...basically he would have traded the bulk of his Landry properties (restaurants and hotel/casino sites) plus their debt to take over the Caesar properties as CEO. He may still snag an on the strip property as the buyer of Caesars, Eldorado Properties, is likely to sell one which it acquired in the purchase of Caesars.

Missouri belongs back in the BigXII, not in the SEC--that's our spot :)

Actually, South Carolina's spot was our spot. But had we gone that way, South Carolina would probably have gotten Mizzou's spot, so the end result would have been the same.

Had the SEC known what future developments were going to take place at Mizzou, they might well have looked for somebody else to pair with aTm. Wouldn't have been us, given where we were at the time.

Quote:Missouri fired coach Barry Odom on Saturday, a day after the team completed its season at 6-6 (hmm, so, bowl game and potential winning season is not enough).
Odom went 25-25 and 13-19 in SEC play during four seasons at his alma mater, where he served as defensive coordinator before being promoted to succeed Gary Pinkel after the 2015 season. Missouri started 5-1 this fall before dropping five consecutive games. The Tigers beat Arkansas on Friday.
According to their AD, Mizzou "had tremendous momentum coming into the 2019 season with the opening of the new south End Zone Facility."
Odom went 4-8 in his first season before guiding Missouri to consecutive bowl appearances and 4-4 records in SEC play.

I wonder if my guy Alex Grinch will get an interview. He's got strong Mizzou ties, coached there and is Pinkel's nephew. He may not be as big a name as they want, but given their current mess, they may not be able to get a bigger name to come there. One other reason not is that he is good friends with the Odoms and may not want to stab a buddy in the back. I think he gets a HC slot somewhere in a couple of years, maybe even OU if Riley takes an NFL job, so he would probably do well to wait for something better.

Depends on how desperate and cut throat Herman is.

Was at a party on Saturday and talked with some people fairly high up at UT (both governance level and sports level). They are all aware that Herman should have gotten two more losses this year; next year isnt just a 'put up or shut up' with 7, as they regard this as a 5 win season with two tosser wins in games they should have lost.

And Herman knows this -- call the first factor at least a 7, maybe an 8.

As for cut throat, well, everyone knows how Herman was more than willing to bolt UH to this. Again -- call it a 7 or an 8. Not a ding on the cut throat, D1 (especially P5 coaches, and even more the top program P5) all tend to have a high DNA makeup for this.

Im actually surprised his cuts werent even more and deeper, to be honest.

Since 2000, the only University of Houston football coaches to have a cumulative losing record are Dana Dimel and Dana Holgorsen. Is it something about that first name?

Ole Miss football’s Matt Luke will not return as head coach in 2020

The third-year head coach won just 15 games during his time in Oxford.

(Just doing the math...Owls would need to go 10-2 next season to match the coach that Old Missed just fired. Of course, if we go 10-2 next season, that would be showing the kind of progress this program needs for a change.)

Quote:As reported first by Neal McCready of Rebel Grove, Ole Miss and newly-annointed athletic director Keith Carter have announced football head coach Matt Luke is no longer the head coach after a 4-8 season that was as tumultuous as it was interesting. Luke’s career record as a head coach was just 15-21. Furthermore, his struggles in the SEC sans Arkansas, Mississippi State, and Vanderbilt saw his conference record plummet to just 6-18.

Newly-annointed Ole Miss Athletic Director Keith Carter wasted no time cleaning house, saying, “While improvements were evident in certain aspects of the program, we are judged ultimately by our record, and, unfortunately, we did not meet the standard of success that we expect from our program.”

I don't understand why Rice's AD doesn't try to schedule series against Old Missed and Mississippi State? Seems we'd have a better chance at getting some of their fans to travel to visit HRS in Houston, and it could help both sides' recruiting. Then again, maybe we have inquired and there's no interest. Hard to tell.

UTSA fires Frank Wilson after four seasons as football coach

UTSA coach Frank Wilson has been fired after four seasons with the Roadrunners, athletic director Lisa Campos announced Sunday morning.

The news comes less than 24 hours after UTSA closed a 4-8 season with a 41-27 loss to Louisiana Tech on Saturday night in Ruston, La.

Wilson finishes his tenure at UTSA with a 19-29 record in four seasons.

Campos said Wilson, the second head coach in UTSA’s history, “continued to build on the foundation of a young football program.”
[/quote]

Again, doing the math for our current head coach to match UTSA's just fired coach next season: we'd have to win 14 games, so, 12-0, plus CUSA Championship win, plus Access Bowel win (just kidding, they'd likely never let us play in that even if we went 20-0 in a season.) But, wait, next season is only season 2, I mean 3, well, how do you account for "year Zero?" So, good news, to match UTSA's standard of fireable offenses after 4 seasons, we'd have to only win 7 games each of next two years. Now, two 7-4 seasons would show a little progress from where the program's sunk to, but we'd have to start going 1 loss or undefeated several years in a row from there for it not to be some kind of 'plateau.'

Everybody is on a plateau. We just want to be on a higher one, the highest one if we can.

Saban is learning how it feels to fall off the highest plateau.

I don't know if Bloom can get us higher, but I do know that a bowl or even a conference championship is not the highest plateau to which we should aspire. They are but steps on the way. I think we need to get to the plateau where an 11-1 regular season is a down year. At least that is where I want to go. Aim for the top.

“This is my baby.” ODU head football coach Bobby Wilder stumps to return after 1-and-11 season

Amazing quote from Wilder:
Quote:"This didn't work out this year, but I want to be back next year because I truly believe it will," Wilder said following his team's season finale, a campaign that saw ODU finish 1-and-11

Oh, well, guess they don't like babies at ODU:

Quote:Heading into this season, Old Dominion was opening a beautiful new reconstructed stadium seating over 22,000 that cost about $67.5 million. However, a 1-11 season left a lot of empty seats.

Wilder has been the only head coach ODU football has ever known, starting the program in 2007. He led the Monarchs from an FCS independent to Conference USA; the club won a share of the C-USA East title in 2016.

That first season, they burst onto the scene as an FCS independent with a 9-2 record, followed by an 8-3 mark in 2010. The 2011 season marked the first season in the CAA, and Wilder led the team to double-digit wins, postseason appearances, and top 10 rankings for two straight years. In 2014 they transitioned to the FBS level as a member of Conference USA, and went 6-6 and then 5-7 before a breakout 10-3 campaign and win in the Bahamas bowl in 2016.

Wins have become increasingly tough to come by the last few seasons for Wilder and the team though, as the team finished 5-7 in 2017, 4-8 in 2018, and the slip to 1-10 this fall.

Overall, Wilder is 77-55 since helping start the program back in 2009, which is pretty remarkable, all things considered.

He did a good job over at ODU to start their program, and will always be a big part of that school's history. Looks like he just ran outta gas a la Hat.

I think ODU can rally and rise back to the top of CUSA.

Wilder Resigns as Old Dominion Football Coach

RE: Mehringer

I have been a proponent of bringing him to Rice over the past few years based on his resume and status as a Rice alum. I do not know anything about him personally. The stories coming out of UT strike me as a little unbelievable, just because it makes no sense that Herman would have Mehringer work under him at Rice (Mehringer as student assistant), Iowa State, Ohio State, UH, and now UT, and now after all those years together Mehringer would be stabbing Herman in the back. I would at least be interested in him unless some of the more salacious tales are believed. UT was top-20 in scoring offense and total offense, so not like Mehringer’s group was failing.

James Casey needs to be at Rice in some capacity.

Based on the comments about Rice’s QB Coach, I am guessing Mehringer and Casey would both be upgrades. If nothing else, I would rather fail with them than fail with another Stanford guy.

Make it happen Bloomgren.

Both the Old Miss and the UTSA coaches were fired, in part, because the 2019 season yielded fewer wins than the prior seasons under that coach (i.e., the program both failed to reach the expected level of performance and regressed from the earlier years under that coach.

But, if you do want to look exclusively at cumulative win totals, then looking at the in-conference record is more reasonable. Matt Luke went 6-18 over three years. Bloomgrin is 4-12 after two seasons. I would agree that if Bloomgrin wins only two conference games next season (or even three or maybe four), then it is time for the Rice to move on.

Exclamation RE: 2019-20 College Football Coaching Carousel
The hits kept comin':

Boston College Parts Ways with Steve Addazio

Sound like a familiar script?
Quote:Addazio was made coach at the start of the 2012 season, where he tried to right the ship after the disastrous Frank Spaziani era. Early results were promising, and Addazio turned a 2-10 team under Spaz to a 7-6 team immediately. Momentum looked to be on his side. A second 7-6 campaign the in 2014 saw more on-the-field improvement, including close losses to Clemson, FSU, and Penn State. But that momentum seemed to stop there. The 2015 season saw the team bottom out at the bottom of the ACC and waste the greatest defense in recent memory.

And since then, BC has just been kind of… meh. Short spurts of excitement and slight improvements on the recruiting trail have been outweighed by the lack of competition against top teams and consistently flawed game management. The excuses that were entertained in the first few years, such as lack of depth or youth, have worn thin. And that aforementioned momentum has all but vanished. It is time to move on.

Boston College fires football coach Steve Addazio after seven seasons

Boston College fired football coach Steve Addazio on Sunday after seven seasons, a person with knowledge of the decision told USA TODAY Sports. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the school had not yet announced the move.

Addazio got Boston College to bowl eligibility in six of those seven years, including Saturday when the Eagles beat Pitt 26-19 to reach 6-6. But the program hadn't been able to get over the hump of six- and seven-win seasons and advance up the ACC standings.

Addazio finishes his tenure 44-44 overall and 22-34 in the ACC.
