Solid program 4 bowls in last 8 years, HUGE student enrollment(54,000), Endowment $144 million, large TV market(#16) would give conference 6 of top 20 markets, State is large enough for 3 teams in AAC,
large market...yes.
But does any of that large market watch FIU?
If its down to watching FIU or Florida, Miami or Florida State...guess who they are going to watch?

I would be fine with Villanova but only if Bball comes too and they aren't about to leave the Big East

they'd be in the same situation Uconn was..no natural rivals in the AAC.

I doubt ESPN will be thrilled with a basketball only team and will likely have input in the decision to add (or not add a team) a school. If we are going by market size add FIU, TX-San Antonio, Rice, NYU (ok that was bad), etc.
it’s number of people that watch a team and I would wager FIU is pretty far down the list in their hometown of Miami as are most schools in big markets that have not been snapped up by the top 6 conferences yet.

You are all missing the big picture. Yes football drives the ship. But more than that, TV does. And we are losing our largest tv market. Replace them with Georgia State in all sports.
Doubling down on dumb. That is like saying that CUSA losing UAB would be like losing the Alabama market. It is beyond dumb.

Tulane was the final straw for the Catholic Seven.
I'm not sure why the MWC and AAC could not merge for football and stay separate for all other sports

Absolutely, its far worse than saying SMU gives us Dallas Forth Worth. Just because UCONN is in Connecticut doesn't mean NYC and Boston watch them at all. And to center your athletic program on women's basketball makes as much sense as us basing our decisions around our soccer team.
Connecticut's entire population is only about double the Memphis metro and half of Tennessee's.
uconn really thinks they are amazing and better than our crappy little conference
Yes, UCONN's women's team is fantastic, so what. Calhoun got it done and then the stars all aligned and as a #7 seed they won it all. Other than Calhoun, who coached there for 25 years, UCONN men's basketball hasn't done squat.

I think you're missing the big picture. Losing a brand name and replacing it with a team I never heard of until last year screams bush league. We just bitched about not scheduling better OOC teams because we were playing teams like "Gulp" Georgia State, and now you want to put them in our conference.
I'm guessing people in Atlanta care about two teams in the state of Georgia, and Georgia State isn't one of them.
Either we pull in someone that has a proven audience and some pedigree or just stay put.
If you want to think outside of the box, why not take UNLV? They're amazingly similar to Memphis as a university. Even though they suck right now, They were a national brand that would love to get a jump start back to where they used to be.
They have no competition like Georgia State You can fly to Vegas from
anywhere and you get to go to "Vegas"! They'll be playing in the best new stadium in all of football.
Their basketball team has a National Championship under their belt. It's still one of the fastest growing metro areas in the country. They would love to get out of the Mountain West. Who do you think they would rather attract to Vegas, people from Dallas, Houston, Cincinnati, Memphis, Philadalphia, Wichita, Tulsa, New Orleans, or Laramie Wyoming?
People from all of those cities have migrated to Las Vegas. They'd be back to filling up the Thomas and Mack. Or better yet, they could play in the new arena T-Mobile on the strip.
Now that is thinking outside of the box. I say think about UNLV. That would make news for the AAC and UNLV. Much more so than Old Dominion or Buffalo.
I just looked at the map. Air Force is the way to go. Colorado is WAAAAAYYYY closer than Nevada.
That's irrelevant.
It's going to be a plane ride for either to everybody.

Atlanta Football Market
#1 Falcons
#2 UGA
#3 Georgia Tech
#4 Georgia Southern
#5 Georgia State
put GA high school football in 3rd spot lol
GA St exists on smoke & mirrors. They have less following than Kennesaw St (FCS) & several powerhouse high school teams. GSU just had a stadium fall into their lap when the Braves moved to Cobb Co & they tout it as they've arrived.

They haven’t arrived yet. With the right leadership, they will arrive within the next decade.
FWIW, they have excellent academic leadership.

Their current student body and alumni alone would be more than we get in some of the other possible additions. You are all but guaranteed a minimum 75,000-100,000 HH in that TV market before you get to those who were not actually students or alumni of the school.
The Vill is NOT going to leave the Big East. Not to mention their stadium does not meet minimum requirements to move to FBS. Only hold 12,000 and they do not even fill that up. Half their home games last year did not draw 6,000.

None of these solutions work.

Both create a 3 time zone conference and it just will not fly. TV deals will focus on the majority of the teams in the Eastern and Central time zones.

Man I've lived and worked in NYC. NOBODY watches UCONN. It's like sayng if we had UAB Birmingham would suddenly be AAC fans.
Georgia's market is divided.
NHL, MLB, NFL, NBA, WNBA, Georgia Bulldogs, Georgia Tech, high school football...etc etc.

You are all missing the big picture. Yes football drives the ship. But more than that, TV does. And we are losing our largest tv market. Replace them with Georgia State in all sports.
Both create a 3 time zone conference and it just will not fly. TV deals will focus on the majority of the teams in the Eastern and Central time zones.
something we agree on

If Wichita wants to add football, great.
If not, roll with what we got.
that's the problem.
Staying at 11...means Navy would have to give up some games...against Notre Dame, Air Force, or Army.
Then we'd be replacing two teams...and lose the tv contract we just signed.
