We bought a LG washer and dryer but I hate the washer. My favorite still are the ones that fill with water and you throw your clothes in from the top not the side. I swear this new fangled ones only make a bunch of noise like they're accomplishing something but my blue jeans don't smell as clean as I wish. There's nothing like the washers that half fill with water and go chuga- chuga. 03-wink

the older washing machines, with the agitator in the middle, are preferred by many.
You can find them at used appliance stores.

You can buy them brand new for about $399 too.

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Roper-3-5-cu-ft...1000074111

But you can't beat a GE. $479

https://www.lowes.com/pd/GE-4-2-cu-ft-To...1000757210

Those front loaders are a scam and cost 2-3x as much. You have to take them apart every 6 months and deep clean them as well because they grow mold. The top loaders are 0 maintenance.

Not bad at all, didn't even know you could get a new one lol. I bough a used one for $200. Works great. I left behind an HE front loader with no agitator at my former house.

Mine is one like that, but I think I got a Whirlpool.

I caught the W&D on sale at Sears, and my parents were going to buy it for me (since they never got me a graduation gift or anything) and when I went in to put it on their Sears card, they were out, wouldn't have any for x number of weeks and when they did arrive I couldn't get the sales price. I had laundry piling up, so I went to Lowes afterward and saw the same W&D, a little more than the sales price, talked to a guy, he had them, gave me the Sears sales price, and delivered them the next day.

We had two that lasted 18 years and went and bought new ones last year. More for the warranty and they were on sale than anything else. I dont have time to be trying to fix no damn washing machine. That's for young men or men that know how to do it already.

Had an older coworker of mine one time that showed me the way on this kind of thing. We were talking one day and I told him how I'd spent time over the weekend mowing my lawn. He's close to 60 and was like dude you make way too much money per hour to be devoting 3+ hours on the weekend to do the lawn. Pay someone else. That really stuck.

I now pay for my lawn to be mowed and my house to be cleaned. Time means more to me than anything else going forward ever will when you break it down in a return on my investment kind of thing. That Saturday not spent working and doing what I want to do vs what I have to is worth it.

If I buy a cheap washing machine for 200 now and get 3 years out of it or buy a new one for 800 and get a warranty plus 18 years...you do the math.

Not to say if you enjoy fixing things or doing your yard that that is bad. I just dont enjoy doing either enough to not pay someone else.

I choose to do as many repairs and perform as much maintenance as I'm still physically able to do because I've always liked mundane work that really doesn't require much thought but leaves me with a sense of accomplishment. I can look out on my yard after I'm done satisfied that it's been done to my expectation and pleased with the visible result of my labor. I did a complete brake job on my truck last week.

Hell, maybe I'm just bored. And I do have more time on my hands than most.

I pay 25 a week for a guy to come out on a zero turn. He has a partner that weed eats and blows it off and they are done in about 15. My expectation is it'll be cut in 15 for 25. It is and I spend Saturday d1cking off.

I know what you mean about the satisfaction of it. I gave up being satisfied about anything when the oldest got to be about 12.

Hell, that's a bargain. It would cost me at least 75 bucks a week. My yards a wee bit bigger and a lot more complicated than yours though. If I dont move to the farm in the next year or so I'm going to have to do something, this yard is a killer for young men, it's getting to the point that it's difficult for even me now as well.

Mine did when he was 12. He's 21 now. All those years of if were good for him even though he never once learned to get the lines straight.

If your yard is thick enough and in the kind of condition where you can notice the lines, it is in better shape than most anyway (at least around here).

Lol

My kids now 21 as well. He started at about 12, and each time I had to go out there and “fix” what he had almost impossibly screwed up. If it wasn’t intentional then I can’t begin to figure out the “how”.
More than one bent blade or shaft along the way as well.

Finally got around to replacing the carb on my little hand me down (FIL) John Deere scout mower and fired my own son. Lol

Easier for me just to do it, instead of having to “fix” it...

Damn kids

Citation needed. I've never heard that, and I don't know a single person who's had to have theirs taken apart and cleaned every 6 months.
If you've got evidence to back up that claim I'd love to see it.
I've had mine for over 8 years and haven't had a single issue with it.

From my perspective, I do know that mold will tend to grow along the rubber gasket along the door opening. Water tends to sit in there. A simple remedy is to just leave the door open between washes.

Run a search for front load washer mold issues. There are even class action lawsuits. I advise you get yours professionally cleaned. If it is 8 years old, it is probably quite nasty, even if you can't see it.

With all the rain we've gotten in TN this Spring, my yard is a verdant paradise of grass that's too tall because I'm only on a every two week cycle for cutting the grass until May. I actually hit my yard guy up today to move me to week to week ASAP because it's borderline white trash looking now and I know my neighbors have to be wondering.

I know what you mean about the satisfaction of it. I gave up being satisfied about anything when the oldest got to be about 12.

lol I can understand that. However, when my son turns 12 he's going to be the one cutting the grass.

Mine did when he was 12. He's 21 now. All those years of if were good for him even though he never once learned to get the lines straight.

If your yard is thick enough and in the kind of condition where you can notice the lines, it is in better shape than most anyway (at least around here).

Good to see something stuck. This is the exact reason I mow my own yard.

That's exactly what my g/f said when I mentioned mold.

This was apparently an issue with cheap models that exclude self-cleaning and/or sanitation cycles. Mine will build up residue between washes, but the self-clean cycle once a week knocks the problem out. The sanitation cycle is hot enough to kill anything you can’t see, and as an added bonus, makes the sheets very soft and clean.

Granted some machines don’t have these cycles. Mine cost $550. Its listed on Lowe’s website for $999 right now.

Yep, hers has all that as well so that's probably why she's never had a mold issue.

I think it's a Globalist trying to say Tariff's BAD.

I think it’s a liberal saying he doesn’t like paying taxes after all....

It's yet another leftist thinking he's sprung a gotcha moment on us.

I'm with you but convincing my wife to go back to the Flintstone era will be a hard problem. I can already see her rolling her eyes. LOL

You can buy them brand new for about $399 too.

But you can't beat a GE. $479

We've had ours for some time now (can't remember how long) and we haven't had any mold problems. Partly I think is that we live in a very dry climate PLUS when we're done washing we dry them with a towel and leave the doors open sometimes not even bothering to close them unless we have company. It's not big deal really leaving them open.
