6-0, 210 is small for a DE. Yet he has some very impressive offers. I wonder if he was being recruited at the other schools as a LB or S?

Fred Dryer is 6-6 and I'm guessing he was about 250 during his playing days?

He’ll probably play Ekpe’s position. Edge player, often stand up pass rusher. Ekpe is 6’0” 235.

Shameless plug for my son. Through three games, based off yds, was the #2 sophomore in the state, #100 wr in the state, #35 in 6A, #3 in 14-6A. 91yds/gm 22yds/ catch
Has had 125yd game, 130yd game and two 70yd catches for tds(both were short passes that he just out ran the defense). We are getting word that some p5 schools are taking notice. My son has stated that rice is on his list. We'll be at the game Saturday upon the request of some of my former players. I love my school but early bird gets the worm. Oh and I got an 8th grader that's faster and bigger than him at the same age. I'm throwing you a bone here that's got some meat on it... lol

I’d shoot Alex Brown (director of recruiting) an email or something. Seems like this weekend is junior day with lots of 2021s coming in. I’m guessing since your an alum be can get you and your sons some sideline passes to hang out with our future (potential) players. Not sure how that works but it would probably make a better impression than sitting in the half empty stands.

Former Rice commit Luke Brockermeyer put on scholarship today at UT.
Makes you wonder if this staff knows how to close.

Oh, FFS! He got a gray shirt offer from the school where his father and grandfather played, and you fault Bloomgren for not talking him out of it?

Wasn’t a gray shirt... He matriculated in Fall 2018 so he’s being put on scholarship 1.25 yrs later.
You also conveniently left out that his brother attended Rice.

Good story for the Brockermeyer family but let's face it, he's only going to be a special teams player (and mop-up time) for them. And he was only put on scholarship because they had a number of defections like all schools do.
You can fault the coaching staff for a lot of things, but recruiting is not one of them.

He was a preferred walk on. Whatever. Texas gave him a shot, so he took it.
What does his brother have to do with it? Did he get an offer to play at the P5 where his father played?
You're really reaching to find fault here.

His other brothers are most likely going to UT though, and one is the top recruit in the state.

You seemingly suggested that there was no family tie to Rice... And no-He didn’t, but I’m sure he could’ve been a Fiji, SAE, etc which to be quite honest opens up just as many opportunities as a Rice degree.
I would also point out that two of his HS teammates (Bird and Harmon-who transferred out) ended up signing with Rice.
All I’m saying is that if we really fashion ourselves as a “destination” university, we have to get these type of guys. And I’m as big of a non-graduate UT fan as it comes-so I’m not mad at the kid for choosing UT... Just pointing it out.

I would think a Brockermeyer, given the opportunity to go to TexasU, would become a Longhorn.

RE: 2020 Football Recruiting
So how does an 0-6 start affect recruiting relative to a possible 3-3 or 4-2 start?
How does the fact that Rice's offense hasn't scored more than 21 points this season affect the recruitment of offensive players? Easier to get guys because they believe they might play earlier? Harder because they stop believing in Bloomgren's system and don't want to play for a dud offense?
I hope Bloomgren doesn't make Jerry Mack the fall guy at some point for the woes on offense. Mack didn't run this offense before he came to Rice and it doesn't seem like it would be fair to fault him.
