Marshall lives to fight another day, while eliminating George Washington. Down 1-0 in the top of the 6th with 2 outs Briana Diass (Dice) hits a double, Blakely Burch then hits a double to bring in Abigail Estrada (PR for Diass) and while on 2nd Hayden Ellis hits a 2 run homerun to straight away center.

Marshall plays Kent State tomorrow at 10.

Shoot I could hit a home run if you let me hit from second base.

Im 47 and was never an athlete, Im pretty sure I could actually hit 1 out of 100 balls pitched to me at least 205 feet. The ball park they are playing in is one of the smaller softball fields in the country. Most college softball is 220 to center and 215 or 210 down the lines.

Coastal Carolina is the smallest park Ive seen yet, its 200 all the way around.

Ever tried to hit a pitch that might be moving upward when it arrives to the plate? Takes some time getting used to that. Baseballs don’t act like that.

Liberty’s field is a typical college softball field in terms of dimensions. 220 to center, 200 down the lines. It’s one of the top 10 college softball stadiums in the country.

And it’s not like Marshall has hit fence-scrapers, either. The bomb Ellis hit was well up on the net beyond the wall.

Marshall lives to play another game. Mya Stevenson with 2 homeruns in her 1st 2 at bats today. That breaks an 11 year old record for most homeruns in a season, she now has 20. She was tied with 4 time conference player and 4 time All-American Rachel Folden with 18.

RE: C-USA Softball
Now that the Marshall softball season is finally over, where to begin. Well lets start with what the coaches expected out of Marshall, which wasn't much. Marshall was predicted to finish 8th in the conference out of 12 programs. Coming off a disappointing season last year where Marshall was 24-29-1 I and a lot of others who follow the softball program wasn't expecting that much I don't think

With Marshall bringing back almost the exact same team from last year and the 3rd coaching staff in 3 years and without an Ace on the staff, I thought we might be able to come close to breaking even and somewhere like a 27-27 season would be a success.

But Coach Megan Smith had different plans and the kids bought in early. Marshall went 41-22, a 17 game turn around from last season. They also obliterated the RBI and Homerun records. Marshall had 517 RBIs this season, the old record was set in 2014 with 466. These young ladies hit 76 homeruns on the year, the previous record for homeruns in a season was in 2008 with 62. Freshman Mya Stevenson also sets a new homerun record. Stevenson knocks 20 homeruns over the wall. The previous record was head by Rachel Folden who hit 18 in 2008.

Marshall has already signed 4 players for next year and has 3 more scholarships to give out. The 4 signed in November are:

Ashley Blessin - Pitcher, Plant City High School in Plant City, Florida -- Blessin in her HS career was 61-11 with an ERA .085. She was also a Max Preps All-American.

Sydney Chapman - INF, Cabell Midland High School, Ona, West Virginia -- Chapman is just one of many to come out of CMHS for Marshall, others include Jordan Colliflower, Abigail Tolbert and Morgan Zerkle.

Delaney Heaberlin Pitcher, Eustis High School in Eustis, Florida -- Heaberlin comes to Marshall with 61-12 record in HS including a 26-2 season as a Junior and a .081 ERA.

Caiti Mathes Utility, Hurricane High School, Hurricane, West Virginia -- Mathes has played on 3 state championship teams while hitting over .400 for her career. She has 172 RBIs and 47 homeruns in her 4 years in HS.

With the other 3 scholarships Id like to see another pitcher, you can't have to many pitchers and 2 speedsters, also in softball there no such thing as having to many that can run like the wind.

How are you actually still alive, 3 hits in 2 games. Did you all forget your bats in Ruston.

Thinking the same thing. And only one player has all those hits. And then we walk in a batter. TT 1-0. Hoping our bats can come alive soon.

LA Tech, Marshall and CUSA not in bad company. Only 2 conferences had two or more 40+ game winners. CUSA and the PAC 12, the PAC 12 had UCLA, Washington and Arizona. Only 5 other conferences had 1 40+ game winners.

I also don't feel as if anyone will overlook us come preseason next year.

You can't get any lower than dead last, which is where Charlotte softball was this year at 15-35 (6-17). That seems to be a common theme with Charlotte, "Near the bottom or dead last".

Isn't that the truth! What a great story though--in the last 12 months we have fired our men's basketball coach and hired the top assistant from the #1 program and National Champions; we have fired our football coach and hired the hottest young coach in the nation; and now we replaced our Softball coach with a nationally recognized top assistant coming from a top-tier SEC program. Only time will tell if these hires pan out, but we are not scraping the bottom of the barrel. There is a new sheriff in Charlotte and nobody left on our staff is safe if they do not perform. We are coming for you.

Chastain did a good job with Ole Miss, but she inherited a good gig there, too.

Taryne Mowatt really made a huge difference with the pitching staff in Oxford before she went to her alma mater, Arizona.

That said, I think it’s a very, very good hire.

Ole Miss also had a pretty good ACE and 2 other pitchers who were HS All-American's. Not much you really had to do except make sure they kept their mechanics in place.

The situation would be like hiring Alabama's OC after being there 1 year and claiming they had a great offence. The reason they had a great offense is because of the players there when he got there, not because of his scheme.
