Besides gasoline costs, there is also investment in time since driving can mean devoting more days and stress to the trip than flying. If one can take paid vacation time to travel at a leisurely (sight seeing) pace, driving can be a great pleasure.
Good to know! Flying is faster than driving and leisurely driving can be fun, but you'll probably need to take a few days off from work!
That is why I specified "one can take paid vacation time". Not all jobs provide "paid vacation time" during the year. My neighbor worked for BellSouth for over 30 years and had several weeks of paid vacation each year.I worked over 30 years as an Alabama academic classroom teacher and never had a single day of paid vacation. Alabama's academic teachers have 185 "furloughed" days without pay each year.
Ah you guys don’t work summers. You don’t need any vacation days.
Any one can get such time off for the summer. Just go to your boss and tell him to stop paying your salary on May 31, go home and enjoy time off until September when you go back to work and your pay starts again. How well would you cope with 92 days every summer with no pay? Those 185 unpaid days every year include week ends, all holidays when schools close or when weather events force the schools to be closed. The latter closures are usually made up later in the year so that teacher pay for those days is not permanently cut.

Dude, seriously just stop.
I’m against the Nola bowl because I’m ok call. Anything the weekend before Christmas or the week of it cool since I’m off all that week.

I know I should leave this alone, but I can't help myself. It's like I am listening to my sister-in-law.
1. Most people don't get paid for not working on the weekends, so being a teacher is no different.
2. With 92 days off in the summer, there's plenty of time to get another job if you're that cash strapped.
3. Average teacher salary in Alabama is roughly $50,000. That is above the median income. Now, figure in the fact that most people work roughly 250 days a year, and you'll see that teachers work about 190 days roughly 75% as much as a run of the mill full time employee, while making above median income. Cry me a river. I get so sick and tired of hearing teachers whine and gripe all the time.

This is kind of selfish and I know a lot of people on here will not agree, but I would like for us to be in the Birmingham Bowl. I know we don't have a conference tie in to that bowl, but if possible a game against Auburn/Tennessee/South Carolina would be fun.

As a Texpat who will be home for the holidays, I would love a Bham Bowl appearance.

Bocca. Try Sw or spirit out of ATL for cheapest flights (SW generally cheaper out if atl than B’ham)
Dallas SW out of B’ham
Frontier Air is flying from Birmingham to Orlando twice a week. Right now, from Saturday the 15th until Wednesday the 19th is $131.40 round trip.

I would hate it for the players, but I know we would have a HUGE crowd and a great atmosphere.

Currently, SI has us projected to Tampa vs USF - thoughts?

Frontier is a joke. They make up for their cheap fares by charging for everything else. $45 for carry on luggage, $45 for first checked bag, $4.00 for an in flight coke. I’ll never fly them again
That’s how the low cost airlines work.

USA Today has us in Boca against Memphis.
Do you think we could get them to raise the stakes and bring the bones statue?

I feel like they wouldn't, since we have been playing so well.
I am a relatively new UAB fan (2009) and came on at the tail end of Memphis being in C-USA. Do they actually care enough about us to consider it a rivalry, or is it pretty one sided of us hating them? We were never competitive enough with them when I was in school for it to seem like a rivalry.

Give me NOLA, Birmingham, or Shreveport. In that order.

We lead the series 10-6 I think. We put a blemish on some good seasons for them. The old timers there have not forgotten.

I'd be totally fine with this. Relatively cheap travel, and one of my old college buddies lives there.

Where would the players like to go? My guess is Florida. Let them enjoy this season. Wherever we go I'll be there. This is a reward for the players.

I want a bowl in Birmingham but that’s me being a selfish fan. I also see the appeal of playing the best team available.
I really want Memphis. I want the Bones back!
