I do not think it is trolls, rather we have become conditioned to success leading to exit. Dantonio, Kelly, Jones.
All of us hope this time it is different. Perhaps he stays until realignment happens and hopefully then there may be no reason to leave to be P5.

RE: Goodbye Fickell?
The average coach is at a school for ~5 years so they are all either coming or going constantly.
I'd rather be discussing what we do when he leaves than discussing how do we buy out his contract and make him go. After the previous coaching experience I'm just going to enjoy the positive experince for a while.

The guy grew up in Columbus, Attended OSU, was a Grad Assistant at Akron, and spent 16 years coaching, and recruiting at OSU.
It may be naive, but I don't think Fickell leaves the Midwest until the door at Ohio State is shut, and his only option to coach at a elite program is to head east/south.
He has tons of relationships with high schools in Ohio, and I think he knows his best path to success, and likely family happiness is staying close to his extended family in Columbus.
I just don't see him being as successful going to programs like South Carolina. Maybe UK is an option, but that won't be any time soon.

RE: Goodbye Fickell?
We will need to tune out a lot of this "where is Fickell going next" talk. It is just one of the downsides of winning.
Writers looking for a story will always be looking at this topic. I am sure we will soon be seeing annotated lists of his likely landing spots. Most of those writers won't have done all that much homework, however.
And we will lose him someday. I would be shocked if he is here 8 or 10 years from now. But I am not going to worry about it today.

Not giving a second thought to whether or not Fickell leaves. Most with a high level of success move on...this is true at nearly every school including historical schools like Florida and USC. Enjoy the ride and hope for the best.

RE: Goodbye Fickell?
The question isn't, "can Cincinnati afford to keep Luke Fickell?"
The question is, "can Cincinnati afford to LOSE Luke Fickell?"
The answer is no. For where we are right now outside the P5, the survival of our entire athletic department depends on maintaining a high level football program. We can't afford mediocrity, or else the fans, money, and P5 attention will vanish overnight. We have to be ready for the next round of conference realignment. If we miss our next chance, our athletics (and possibly university as a whole) may have to cut back dramatically and settle for being a regional commuter school again. That is unacceptable.
The administration and big money donors certainly realize this after the Tuberville Disaster, and will pony up as much money as is needed to prevent Fickell from leaving for all but the biggest programs in our region, namely ND, OSU, and PSU. The middling and lower B10 programs may have more money than us right now, but we need a high level coach far more than they do.

I agree with your assessment on the viability of the program with Fickell, but I don't know that the university is entirely of the same mindset.
There are some(profs/faculty mostly) who'd prefer we dropped football altogether. I don't know the percentage of tuition that goes to keeping sports afloat, but as the separation between the haves and have nots/P5 and G6 continues, I'm not sure it's an entirely blank check we have to throw at the issue. If Texas and Oklahoma for example, were to leave the Big 12 and the new Power 4 decided to become their own division; there would likely be no more NCAA Tournament and no chance of doing anything significant in football. We'd basically be in a second tier league similar to the current FCS, and then what becomes of the cry to carry on spending whatever it takes for the athletic department?
If we've truly missed the window, none of this matters.

What Mark said. Oregon lost a successful head coach to the NFL and lost Willie Taggart to FSU after one season.

RE: Goodbye Fickell?
Rick Minter 10 seasons
Mark Dantonio 3 seasons
Brian Kelly 3 seasons
Butch Jones 3 seasons
Tommy Tuberville 4 seasons
Luke Fickell . . .
It would be great if Fickell stays 10 seasons, but given the trend; not likely. The key for our long term success is to keep using the formula that has worked: young coach who is on their way up, has recruiting relationships, and has or can put together a staff that will go with him.
Do not get a coach on the way down . . .
Having said that - I think Fickell stays longer than 4 seasons.

Can we stop being so paranoid about this and enjoy what we have?
This team has the strength of it's schedule on the back half. We could very well end up 7-5. Just enjoy the ride for what it's been. If he leaves, he leaves. I have faith that Bohn will make another strong hire.

There will always be plenty of young, talented coaches waiting for an opportunity to prove themselves. and they'll know Cincy sits in a recruiting hotbed and has a reputation for doing more with less. I hope Fickell stays for a long time and that we reward him handsomely for his successes, but if he decides someday to seek what he believes are greener pastures, and if he's built a consistently strong program at UC, we'll have our pick of coaching talent.
That is, unless we have an AD like Whit Babcock who feels obliged to give a washed-up old chum a comfortable and lucrative golfing vacation at our expense.
Let's just enjoy the ride for as long as it lasts.

Goodbye Fickell?
I don't think Fick is going to leave after this year, but I'm very interested in building up the UC alum on staff for future head coaching opportunities. It would be neat to see a Gino Guidugli or Mike Mickens come home to roost.

I think they'd have to be coordinators first more than likely...both have a very solid coaching foundation, but neither has called plays before which could be extremely problematic as a head coach.

6-0 the rest of the way and we are back!
2-4 and we finish 8-4 and the Coach leaving talk should(?) die down. It's a win-win back.
BTW i think the latter is far more likely.

2-4? Come on man. I think that is EXTREMELY unlikely, as unlikely as going 6-0 down the stretch. We're likely between those numbers.

I'm thinking 3-3...USF and UCF are more likely than not and Temple scares me even with the bye week, plus we've shown how historically bad we manage the Triple-O so Navy is always a possibility.

Accoridng to S & P+ numbers and Bill Connelly's statistics our best odds end up being 10-2. Call it a 50-50 game against Temple, and a 50-50 game against USF with a loss to UCF.
