Agreed - this system is a great start to ensure the CUSA schedule is strong at the end of the season for those at the top. I did not enjoy watching the last two home games last season. Makes for a much better experience for season ticket holders.

If we take last year's standings and apply this new scheduling setup, ODU would have two games with Middle Tennessee, WKU, Marshall, UTSA and Charlotte. And NOT FIU and Florida Atlantic. I'd call that an improvement.

If CUSA had this in place last season, there's at least a puncher's chance that Middle Tennessee gets enough help to reach the tournament.

It does improve the games down the stretch but it will not get anymore bids to the NCAAs. MTSU had 3 chances to win a big game OOC and finished 0-3. Winning 1-2 of those would have gotten them in. Another win against ODU would have made no difference.

I think at this point every little bit helps. CUSA can't gin up at-large bids out of thin air but they can load the dice in favor of the stronger programs. Short of dramatic changes to the conference tournament like limiting it to the top four or six teams, this is the best immediate thing they can do.

I’m in favor of anything that makes the games more meaningful and exciting, even if doesn’t improve anyone’s at-large chances (which it may or may not)…whoever takes care of travel arrangements is going to frantically earn their money near the end of the conference season…or would CUSA make blanket reservations beforehand?...anyway, the way I read it, they only hired someone to “look into it” so let’s see how this plays out…

and Chuck Landon has a face made for much smaller pics :-)…

If I were them I'd have a deal with Concur, the official travel coordinator of Conference USA. (that's how I would pitch it to work out a deal)

I like this idea. Makes it even more important to be in the top five, and even better to be one of the top two, come the final one-third of the conference schedule.

D1Docket retweets schedule releases and hosts a big-ass spreadsheet of everyone's schedules

Based on that, here's what ODU's schedule looks like right now (not including games without a date):

Nov. 19 vs. Oregon State (St. Thomas, VI)
Nov. 20 vs. Missouri/Kennesaw State (St. Thomas)
Nov. 21 vs. TBD (St. Thomas)
Dec. 5 WILLIAM & MARY
Dec. 15 at Syracuse
Dec. 22 MORGAN STATE

I believe that the date is also set for the trip to St. Joe's, but I will have to look that up.

I should clarify that the spreadsheet includes announced dates for games. For St. Joe's, the spreadsheet shows the three games in the Myrtle Beach tournament, a Nov. 25 game at William & Mary and a Dec. 8 game at Villanova.

But while comprehensive, I'm sure it's not always 100 percent up to date given how much information you deal with in setting something like that up.

It's a buy game. Everyone plays them. You don't want to fill up on them obviously but a game or two like that to rest the starters and get the reserves some run is the right call.

Agreed - and I know the game before the holiday break is a common game for a team to overlook an opponent and get beat (Wofford/UNC is a perfect example). Hence, scheduling a weak opponent. But these types of games are not the ones in the season tix package that I look forward to...a game we’re supposed to win by 10+. The best you walk away with at the end of the game is a sense of relief that we won - or a horrible feeling if we didn’t get the w.

St. Joes was rumored to be November 9th.

Nov. 9 at St. Joseph's
Nov. 19 vs. Oregon State (St. Thomas, VI)
Nov. 20 vs. Missouri/Kennesaw State (St. Thomas)
Nov. 21 vs. TBD (St. Thomas)
Dec. 5 WILLIAM & MARY
Dec. 15 at Syracuse
Dec. 22 MORGAN STATE

Still have...
at Richmond
VCU
JMU

Not a bad schedule so far depending on what we get in St. Thomas. Would like to see one more P5 or good mid-major.

I think there's also a non-bracketed game against a Paradise Jam participant. Kansas State and Kennesaw State are playing Nov. 9, so presuming it's an opponent from the other half of the bracket, it would be Northern Iowa, Eastern Kentucky or Penn.
