Mostly defensive issues (from someone that just watched stats scroll by)?
Defensive issues, and a tendency to stagnate on offense. Cokley played well, I thought. Lee never really got going. Hopefully he’ll find some fire as this season gets ramped up. I think we have a lot more three point shooting potential, so that may help a bit.
You can never put too much stock in an exhibition game.
Lee never really gets going in about half of our games. He just seems to lack that fire.

Among southern coworkers in the Bham City School System, saying "I am a Morehouse Man" (like Oscar Jones) was equal to saying "I am a 'Yalee', or I am a 'Ha'vrd' Man". It carried great prestige for the speaker.
Well, Morehouse is the prestigious college of the traditional schools. Comparision is Harvard and Yale for the traditional Schools. You should sit in a class and see what they teach (I had a close friend who never came Back after that education)
This state regularly loses many of our "best and brightest" who go out of state to pursue their futures. Our state leaders put the state's emphasis on providing the cheapest labor in America (see the 2016 Alabama law to preserve the Minimum Wage and keep it holy), and many of those with educations are not enthralled by such goals. Of the nine children of my family's generation (all of whom were born in Alabama), only two reside in Alabama with their families. Of the 5 who completed school in the Mountain Brook system, NONE now live in Alabama.

I’m not going to panic after a 15 point win. It would be nice to have done better, but you can say that most nights. We have a lot of really good pieces this year, I’m hoping we can put them together.

Our basketball talent is above C-USA average so now we wait to see - like we did in football - if the improved talent can be molded into an improved TEAM. We will probably know about BBHC Ehsan's TEAM early in the season.

I certainly still have my concerns about this team as well but UNC won their exhibition game against a no name school by 11 point and Auburn lost theirs. I wouldn't read too much into the result.

RE: Three Things To Watch For At Morehouse Exhibition
It looked like a team that was playing against "live" competition for the first time. The speed of the game got better in the 2nd half. We missed a lot of shots, but they were good looks (for the most part).
Norton shook the rust off shortly after halftime. Sullivan may take another game or 2. Lee had a couple big blocks but was otherwise invisible. Lavender was NOT good when in at the point. WAY too many turnovers from bad passes. The new guys will fit in nicely in about a month after they've had a chance to fit in with the rest of the squad.

The Morehouse School of Medicine is an excellent research university. Lots of innovation coming from their faculty.

Cut the turnovers and play D. We’ll be fine.

Lavender ran the point? I thought we had a backup PG this year.
I hoped after last season that I'd never have to suffer while watching Lavender play PG again.

It's obvious that losing Norton wasn't all of the problem last year. He's back, but we are still struggling.
Good student group though. They are not exactly enthused about being here. But the Gardendale High School band is, and they are doing a great job. We need to recruit them for the whole season.
I agree! The Gdale band was awesome. Very into the game and enthusiastic. I enjoyed them as much as the game. Whoever thought that up should get a raise. I hope they made the student section feel uncomfortable. Our student section has to be one of the worst in the country. I've heard more noise in a library, other than when we have a "big game."

Starters maybe finishers. Here to good football and basketball.
There is no way that Lavender should be a starter

Anyone know why Hurtado only saw 1 minute? He was last off the bench behind Smallwood and McCoy. Surely he's not that bad.

Hurtado and Gueye are less prepared for the college game then Nate was last year. They'll only see garbage time this season. Nate came from one of the best high school programs in the country which gave him a leg up. Once he physically got ready for the college game late in the season his IQ was there to compliment his skill.
Scootie might be the best guard on this team other than Nick this season. He and Perry bring a lot more to the table than Hak and Dirk.
I predict we'll see a move towards this in the next few games:
Starters: Nate, Norton, Lee, Coke, Scootie
Significant Contributors: Perry, Lew, Lavender

While I agree that Hurtado and Gueye are not quite ready for D1 basketball, I think Gueye will play more than you think. While he was out of position and seemed to be trying to catch up to the game at times we need his length. We are very thin in the post (and so is Gueye), his playing before Smallwood told me a lot. Given, it was an exhibition and they may have been trying to get some guys some court time as they figure out rotations, Gueye came in early and played a lot. There seems to be an effort to get him ready for a large role this season. He needs strength(he'll get pushed around by the MTSUs and WKUs of CUSA), but is active, plays multiple positions, and is long. Our zone defense with him at the point could make life difficult for many teams. Hurtado's strength is supposedly open floor court vision(fastbreak) so he would need to be in that environment to excel. I think he could be a redshirt candidate...
At times, Scootie was the best player on the court...
