Or that nine man rotation isn't our set one.
From what I watched of the game, Ehsan was just throwing out different lineups, so I wouldn't read too much into minutes and stats. That said, Lavender looked unplayable. I feel bad for the guy since he sat a year, but I doubt he sees many minutes when we get to conference play.
So based off what I've read.
Hurtado won't play
Smallwood won't play
Lavender is headed to less pt
And the two walkons won't play
So expect an eight man rotation, this should be fun.
I think that is pretty accurate. Lavender will get plenty of minutes, but likely less than last year when he was playing out of position, trying to fill in for Norton. Gueye will be limited--he has skills and athleticism, but at first glance he's not close to ready, though we definitely need some depth inside. For that matter, depth could definitely be an issue all around.
Well we will need for Perry to put on his best Vaden impression all season long.
Lavender is going to have to be a defensive stopper.
Gueye looked like he might get pushed around in close games. Might be better to play a 4th guard in close games if Coke and Sully both get in foul trouble. I like his upside when he fills out some.
I don't think Perry will need to force shots like Vaden did. We have numerous guys that can shoot from outside so the priority will be finding the open man.
And defense. We have to be able to get stops in tight games.

I think part of the problem is expecting numerous guys to put up shots instead of having "go to" guys. IMHO
Somebody said defense is expected to still be porous. Maybe from blockingham or maybe not. (Blockingham is cheesy anyway)
Im still looking for guys to play the roles that they're recruited for per coaches comments. Lavender shouldn't be great if he's stuck playing out of position.
I'm looking to see if anybody has gotten better which I can't say I've seen, we have had a lot of transfers recently but it's part of the game now.
I've always said the team is as good as it's top 7-8 guys, based on what I've read we got a good five and probably no next level guys outside the top two whom are similiar
Frontcourt wise HaHa and Cokley are good together not great and not much behind them.
Backcourt wise expect a lot out of four guys in a probable 5 guard set. They share the ball no top dog, maybe a guy or two have a shot at the next level both new guys.
I could say what I expect and what roles guys should have but it doesn't matter. Would like to see us play a top 25 team to get a real look at our guys. They could run through this softer schedule just hope they can get the tourney banner.

It would greatly enhance our depth if Cokley & Haha didn't play at the same time and we surrounded each of them with a good 4 guard lineup.

I'm actually waiting on a true big man. Have been since Davis. Hopefully we get all three guys to sign tomorrow. Then take McCoy off scholarship for next year, and spend a good amount of time recruiting the biggest JuCo we can find. Hopefully we got our future starting five narrowed down for 2019 recruuting.

You and me both. I hope Akabueze can be that man.

Even with Jude I would get a big Juco bruiser. An extra guard could help with the 13th scholarship but not as much in the frontcourt. I can't see Smallwood not being ready, or Lavender not producing at the 2 or 3 spot as he was rated. There is no way he should touch the pg spot. For this season I think the could play all 11 true recruits
5 Lee-Smallwood
4 Cokley- Sullivan
3 Gueye-Lavender (defensive purpose)
2 Darling-Perry
1 Norton-Bryant
An if a backup guard isn't having a decent outing in game immediately place Hurtado in due to his versatility. He guard a three on defense and run point or play off the ball on offense like Aj and Quincy. Basically letting Bryant and Perry carry a true second unit without quick substitution and better game flow.
