So what are the good channels on Roku for watching college football? I recently got rid of Directv and am still playing with the Roku. I do plan on trying out the Directv Now as I get 2 free months with my Roku. I'm also using Verizon DSL, which maybe a bit or too slow, but so far it's been working fine.

Quick question, just how exactly are you getting internet? They symantics of cutting cable really is misleading. You still need to have either hard wire or wi-fi hotspot at your house. The question is what is your internet costing? Cable companies made money off the leasing of devices. The main savings from not getting TV has been on the pricing bundle and hardware. Sadly, I still need spectrum where I live as my best internet option. Would love if they truly had better options than DSL to compete. :(

I grabbed my last internet (centurylink) bill. It's $27.32 total a month. I have high speed. They say there's faster speeds, but I don't think Im missing anything. No problems watching games, GOT, Netflix and I'm not a big gamer. I have PlayStation3 and XBOX and play vs the computer in shooter games. I don't play any RPG games vs random people. So to add up:
Centurylink High Speed Intetnet: $27.32 per month
Netflix: $7.96 per month
And yes, I do have a jail broke Amazon Fire stick that I haven't used since last November 2015 for a big PPV event. I don't pay for ESPN or anything else, but i also am not watching it and stealing it either.

Centurylink is good for folks in south Texas/Louisiana. They have great deals down here. You don't need cable. I realize some areas you do need cable probably still though.....

on a smaller TV there isn't much difference. As the screen gets bigger it becomes a bigger deal.

I recently purchased a 32" TV as a second monitor for my computer. I chose a TV over a traditional monitor because it has more than 1 HDMI input. I have both my computer and cable connected at the same time. I like that I can just switch inputs and go.

As a monitor it has better color than traditional monitors. Black is the real test and it does blacks very well. The text isn't as crisp as I would like but it is acceptable.

Does any one actually broadcast in progressive? It was my understanding that all OTA/Cable companies use interlaced. TVs designed for sports or gaming would convert the interlaced signal to progressive to improve motion quality.

Using it as a TV -- at only 32", there's really no visual difference between 720P & 1080P. That's why they still have them around, I guess. Like, if you have a small 13" TV, there's no visual difference between DVD-quality standard def & 720P.

That said though, I would hope piping in online to stream a 1080p video would run fine and auto-convert/display in 720p on-screen. If so, never with a hitch, I wouldn't mind that at all for a quick-n-easy relatively small TV.

That likely means you're getting a steep, steep discount on a regular DSL product, which from any of the remaining baby Bell companies (CenturyLink, AT&T, Verizon) should probably be in the $50-60/mo range for standalone (not bundled) service.

And DSL is the slowest of the modern broadband technologies. Usually 10-15Mbit ... which can be just fine for some people.

I had a cable bill a bill for the internet and Netflix.
Now I have PS Vue bill taking cables place and I save a good bit. Pluto and some OTA channels I have are new to me and free. I don't care if that makes me a cord cutter I get more pay less like sixty a month less.

Since cord cutting is about saving money, you can spend the same amount, watching at home without having the risk of being at a bar.

I would never tell anyone how to spend their money, to each their own, just curious as to how big sports fans get by without a cable/satellite subscription themselves.

No worries...sometimes jokes don't always translate. More power to you to cut costs.

The neat thing about receiving TV signals OTA...the picture quality is better than cable and you don't need to pay for HD....it is in HD OTA and for free after your antenna set up costs. Well the main channels are (HD)...some of the sub channels are not but those channels often show old TV shows so it doesn't really matter.

I started with DirecTV in 1997. I also had Sirius satellite radio and a Treo in the early 2000's. Cutting edge, ya know?

I dumped DirecTV for streaming television and dumped satellite radio for Pandora. I went from Treos to iPhones and now have a Samsung Galaxy S8+.

Hell, we have Echo Shows and Alexa in both of our houses.

Who says a sixty year old is old fashioned and set in his ways? Things change, technology wise.

Not a lover of cable (or any other utility). Not a cable hater either. I "cut" my cable until they cut the price in half... then I went back. I just want a good deal and to be able to watch college football on TV.

That's great. How do you plan on watching the 9 Army games that are CBSSN & Beinsports this season? How do you plan to watch the ECU vs WVU game on FS2?

At a local bar I go to.

Or get Sling or DirectNow for 4 months ...
