RE: 2017-18 Basketball scheduling
I'm sure we will have a 31-game schedule. As dave416 said, there could (probably will be, actually) a 4th game associated with the Cayman Islands Classic. The last time Cincinnati didn't play a 31-game schedule was 2009-10.

RE: 2017-18 Basketball scheduling
Looks like we have some basketball scheduling announced:
Monday, Nov. 27 - Alabama St. @ Cincinnati - 7pm on ESPNU
Tuesday, Dec. 12 - Mississippi St @ Cincinnati - 7pm on ESPN2
Thursday, Jan. 4 - Cincinnati @ Temple - 9pm on ESPN2
Saturday, Jan. 13 - Cincinnati @ USF - 7pm on ESPNEWS
Saturday, Jan. 20 - East Carolina @ Cincinnati - 4pm on ESPNEWS
Fascinating that all these games against weak opponents will still be televised on the ESPN network.

RE: 2017-18 Basketball scheduling
I love the Cleveland State addition, although they've been down the past few years. Overall, solid schedule. By comparison, Georgetown is trying to compile the worst nonconference schedule in history. If I was one of the diminishing number of Hoya fans, I'd be pissed. Ken Pom from last year in parentheses.
Nov. 12: Jacksonville (275)
Nov. 15: Mount St. Mary’s (209)
Nov. 18: Maryland Eastern Shore (321)
Nov. 25: at Richmond (92)
Nov. 28: Maine (337)
Dec. 3: Coppin State (343)
Dec. 7: Howard (338)
Dec. 9: North Carolina A&T (349)
Dec. 16: Syracuse (55)
Dec. 20: North Texas (320)
Dec. 23: Alabama A&M (351)

Wow, this is really a pathetic schedule. Looks like G-town is playing every HBCU they can find. If they go 10-1 or 9-2, all the basketball "experts" will announce that Patrick Ewing has turned the program around IMMEDIATELY. Truth is, they'll be pounded/exposed once Big East play begins. Georgetown is currently a dumpster fire of a basketball program.

That's hilarious. Just wait though I promise they'll be ranked 24 to start the season. It never fails.

Boom.
CINCINNATI - The 2017-18 University of Cincinnati men's basketball schedule announced Friday includes a challenging nonconference slate and 18 games in the American Athletic Conference. Overall, the schedule features at least 23 games on national television and potentially 15 contests against teams that appeared in postseason play a year ago.
The Bearcats return their top three scorers from last season's squad that achieved the second-most wins in school history: posting a 30-6 overall mark, finishing second in the American Athletic Conference with a 16-2 ledger, and recording its seventh consecutive appearance at the NCAA Tournament.
"We have put together maybe the best non-league schedule in the history of Cincinnati basketball with some tremendous opponents and historic programs," head coach Mick Cronin said.
"Our team is working hard every day and our two senior leaders (forwards Gary Clark and Kyle Washington) are doing a great job for us. Obviously, coming off a 30-win season and returning our front line is exciting," Cronin added. "We hope to continue our great basketball tradition that so many of our fans and former players have built through tremendous support and effort."
// SCHEDULE HIGHLIGHTS
Cincinnati will play its home schedule at BB&T Arena in Highland Heights, Kentucky, while Fifth Third Arena undergoes an $87 million renovation prior to its reopening for the 2018-19 campaign. It marks the first time the Bearcats have played their home games off campus since the 1988-89 season when the recently closed Cincinnati Gardens served as UC's host venue.
The 117th season of Cincinnati basketball tips off against Savannah State (Nov. 10 on ESPN3) at BB&T Arena, followed with home games against Western Carolina (Nov. 13 on ESPN3) and Coppin State (Nov. 16 on ESPN3). Other nonconference home matchups include Alabama State (Nov. 27 on ESPNU); Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Dec. 19 on ESPN3) and Cleveland State (Dec. 21 on ESPN3).
The Bearcats will spend the week of Thanksgiving at the Cayman Islands Classic, Nov. 20-22, in George Town, Cayman Islands. UC plays Buffalo (Nov. 20; TV is TBA) in the first round; before competing against Richmond or UAB (Nov. 21; TV is TBA) in the second round. The tournaments concludes with a matchup against either Iowa, Louisiana, South Dakota State or Wyoming (Nov. 22; TV is TBA) on the third day.
A string of contests to start December will challenge the Bearcats. UC heads to city-rival Xavier (Dec. 2; FS1) for the annual Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout. A week later UC battles Florida (Dec. 9; TV is TBA) at the Never Forget Tribute Classic in Newark, New Jersey, before playing host to Mississippi State (Dec. 12 on ESPN2) and traveling to UCLA (Dec. 16; TV is TBA).
The Bearcats' fifth season of play in the American Athletic Conference begins at home against long-time rival Memphis (New Year's Eve on ESPNU).
UC battles 2016-17 conference and league tournament champions SMU at BB&T Arena (Jan. 7 on ESPN2) and in Dallas (Feb. 11 on ESPN).
Wichita State joins The American in 2017-18 and visits BB&T Arena on Feb. 18 on ESPN. The Bearcats and Shockers close out regular-season play Mar. 4 in Wichita, Kansas. The contest will be televised by CBS.
The annual hard-nosed battles with UConn are slated for February in Storrs, Connecticut, (Feb. 3 on ESPN or ESPN2) and at BB&T Arena (Feb. 22 on ESPN or ESPN2).
The Bearcats wrap up their home schedule on Feb. 25 against Tulsa on CBS Sports Network. It marks the earliest regular-season home finale for Cincinnati since 2000-01.
Other league home games include ECU (Jan. 20 on ESPNews); Temple (Jan. 24 on CBS Sports Network); Houston (Jan. 31 on CBS Sports Network) and UCF (Feb. 6 on CBS Sports Network).
Other conference road games include trips to Temple (Jan. 4 on ESPN or ESPN2); USF (Jan. 13 on ESPNews); UCF (Jan. 16 on CBS Sports Network); Memphis (Jan. 27 on CBS Sports Network); Houston (Feb. 15 on CBS Sports Network) and Tulane (Mar. 1 on ESPN2).
UC will play a pair of exhibition games beginning with a visit to Louisville to take on NCAA Division II power Bellarmine (Nov. 1) at Freedom Hall before welcoming Embry-Riddle (Nov. 5 on BEARCATS TV stream) to BB&T Arena.
The 2018 American Championship (Mar. 8-11) will take place at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.
All of the games included in the ESPN package (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPNews) will be available through WatchESPN, accessible online at WatchESPN.com, and on smartphones and tablets via the ESPN app. CBS Sports also will stream on CBSSports.com and the CBS Sports mobile app games airing on CBS.
// SEASON TICKETS
A limited number of season tickets for the 2017-18 UC men's basketball campaign are on sale now at the UC athletics ticket office on the fourth floor the Richard E. Lindner Center, on the phone at 1-877-CATS-TIX or online at GoBearcats.com/tickets. Due to anticipated high demand, purchasing season tickets may be the only way fans can guarantee their seats for Bearcats' home games at BB&T Arena.

2017-18 Basketball scheduling
I'm really disappointed with the putrid slate of buy games. Cleveland State had the highest RPI of the bunch at 257. Our non-conference SOS is going to be garbage unless some of these teams are vastly improved. 3 really good games doesn't make up for 6 terrible ones when it comes to computer numbers. That said, I am thrilled about having UCLA and Florida on the schedule.

RE: 2017-18 Basketball scheduling
Here is what sticks out to me:
1. Buy games are garbage but at least there are only six of them
2. UC will go one month with only two home games from November 17th through December 18th.
3. Cayman Islands, @Xavier, @UCLA, Florida (NJ), and Miss State make for a slate of games more difficult than anything UC will see in conference play
4. Three home games in a row three times.
5. The end of the season features back to back road games including the finale at Wichita State
6. The last ten conference games include only one game against lower level teams.

5 - no conspiracist here regarding the conference (some have said they're out to get us - don't think that is the case) - this is kind of bummer of a way to end the season though.
6 - this is good - will get us ready for tournaments. Face the lower level teams early in the season (like X! ) to gain confidence and get in a groove (hopefully). Face the upper tier teams when things are clicking.

I wonder if the craptastic buy games are a result of playing at NKU for a year? I'm sure we are losing a lot of revenue, so perhaps the athletic department could only afford to take on the lowest bidders.

It's the best way to end the season if we go in there and win on national TV

IKD.. possibly... but the schedule seems on par with the rest of the teams in this conference. 4-5 P5 schools and a bunch of low RPI cupcakes. I think a major issue is that the better conferences all have "conference challenges" (Big East and ACC have two) which take away opportunities for scheduling. Moreover, some of the P5 schools aren't willing to go home-and-home with schools in the AAC.

RE: 2017-18 Basketball scheduling
I suspect the problem is mostly economic. Will a #150 RPI put more fans in the stands at UC than a #250 RPI? Would #150 then be worth 50% more in guarantees if they demanded it to play in our half empty arena?
My impression: there is a bit of extortion going on among these marginally better low majors who are funding their programs on the backs of high majors willing to pay for better buy games. Worst case scenario for UC; being a high major without P5 revenue streams.
I'm all for thinning the herd in Division I basketball. At least one of the visiting teams at UC (pre-conference) recently didn't have a home game until the end of December or beginning of January, purely for economic reasons. That would suggest to me the school has no business in D1.

The "better" buy games certainly aren't going to put more butts in the seats, so I get it from an economic standpoint. It can definitely hurt on selection Sunday though when you are underseeded by virtue of poor strength of schedule. Of course, the metrics the committee uses seem to change on a year-to-year basis, so who knows how much having crappy buy games will actually hurt us this year.

Yes, you are absolutely right about Selection Sunday and the AAC requires a different pre-conference scheduling mix than the old Big East did for assuring RPI success.
If this is the breakout season many anticipate for UC, we may not need to worry as much about all that.

11/22 Iowa (Cayman Islands)
12/2 @Xavier
12/9 Florida (in NJ)
12/12 Mississippi State
12/16 @UCLA
2/18 Wichita State
3/4 @Wichita State
Pardon me while I change my underwear. That is a bee-U-tiful schedule! I made an assumption that we would play Iowa in the Cayman Islands classic.

The buy games are definitely really ugly, but otherwise there are plenty of good games out there. I do think since they are playing @NKU this year, it would have been a good opportunity to go out and play a one-off road game, whether it was against a good major or a good mid-major.

Decided to split some season tickets since it does not look like any tickets will be available. There might have been 30-40 tickets left in the $250 sections. Probably less that 750 remaining, so looks like we might sell out just on season ticket sales. So much for the argument fans won't cross the river.

Im shocked considering how much we struggled for attendance in early season games. I know we got a great team but it isn't that much better than we've had and we're playing away from campus. Wonder what's driving such an increase in ticket sales.
