12/9 Florida (in NJ)
12/12 Mississippi St
12/16 @UCLA

18 AAC games

Don't forget about Coppin State, who an earlier poster mentioned was ranked #336 in the RPI last year. So far, our buy games are disgustingly bad. We likely have 3 more buy games to announce. If they are of similar quality, our SOS is going to be mediocre at best. I have to imagine there will be at least one more respectable opponent on the schedule.

I was just going on a post earlier in this thread:

Nov. 16 vs. Coppin St.

That link is dead and obviously you would know before anyone else on this board, so I stand corrected.

Ya, it looks like Coppin St. released a schedule and then took it back - it looks like several of the games that were on there were wrong. It also had them playing Houston, who has since released an official schedule without Coppin St. on it.

I disagree with this ucla, xavier, florida are excellent nonconference games. Misd state, buffalo and uab/richmond are solid as well. Also could get iowa in that mix.

If buy games are ok that's a damn fine schedule.

I don't know about Miss. State, Buffalo, or UAB this year. Those could all be mid-100 RPIs very realistically. Much like every year, the top end is very good...but the drop-off could be immense.

Mid 100's don't kill your computer numbers though as long as you win those games. It's the sub-200 ones that really hurt. Last year we lucked out with some pretty decent buy games like Albany and Texas Southern, which were both top 150 RPI teams. Hopefully we pick up a few of those.

Of course it will also help if the dregs of this conference show a pulse, but I'm not holding my breath. At least we don't have to play most of them more than once this year.

Actually I stand corrected. Was told yesterday the game is back on. Coppin St did everything they could to back out of the game, but ultimately decided against having to pay the full cost of the deal to buy out the contract...

Maybe a better payday against someone else? School conflict?

Has to be one or the other. Maybe a closer school with more money like Georgetown, Maryland, or Virginia came calling.

RE: 2017-18 Basketball scheduling
So if I understand NCAA scheduling rules, we are allowed 27 games + up to 4 multi-team tournament games. The Cayman Islands tournament has 3, so that would give us 30 possible games.

We have 18 AAC games and these 11 OOC games so far:

11/13 Western Carolina
11/16 Coppin State
11/20 Buffalo (Cayman Islands)
11/21 UAB or Richmond (Cayman Islands)
11/22 Louisiana Lafay. / Iowa / SDSU / Wyoming (Cayman Islands)
11/27 Alabama State
12/2 @ Xavier
12/9 Florida (in NJ)
12/12 Mississippi State
12/16 @UCLA
12/21 Cleveland State

That leaves us with 1 more game we can schedule... if I understand the rules correctly. Our home OOC schedule looks pretty disappointing right now IMO; it would be nice to host another school with a recognizable name. The only one we have right now is Mississippi State.

And they went 16-16 last year, with only two wins against teams who more than one more win than loss (Arkansas and Boise State), and lost 3 of their starters...fun.

Completely agree --- but I think the AD is chalking up a loss (so to speak) for this year with the home arena being in KY. It is what it is. Not saying they couldn't have gotten more marquee games, but they probably figured their attendance would be whatever the diehards want it to be while in KY.

I'm hoping they come out guns blazing, schedule-wise, with the new arena in 2018.

RE: 2017-18 Basketball scheduling
I think if one of the non-conf games is considered part of the Cayman Islands Classic, they could potentially play 13 non-conf. games. If that's the case, it is essentially up to them. Guessing we don't know the opening night opponent (probably not a big name). And then maybe they can fit another one in December if they choose to.
