RE: CUSA the only G5 conference without a team presenting to Big 12

There are more than a few G5 programs that didn't apply with as much or more money than stAte.
No one from the SBC/CUSA/MAC is getting into the Big XII. Could applying now help your case in the long run? Perhaps, I'm not really sure how, but I don't really see it hurting you.
Could focusing on a Big XII invite undermine AAC chances? Absolutely. I don't know if it will, but I think a Big XII presentatuon is more likely to hurt short term AAC goals than it is to help long term Big XII goals.
My first reaction at seeing "the list" was "why are we not on there?" Then, after collecting my thoughts, I realized that Rice has more likely been focusing on the much more realistic chance to move to AAC or MWC. Doesn't mean that some behind the scenes checking in or discussions with Big XII people haven't occurred. But, especially if Houston does go, Rice would slot in decently to fill their place and retain access for the AAC to the East TX/Houston area, as far as exposure and recruiting.

It's the G5 programs that have deep pockets for athletics and want a shot at the playoff that are making to take the first train out.
Deep pockets like Arkansas State?
Your conjecture is as silly as it always has been.
We don't have the donors that most teams do, but we also turn a profit as an Athletic Department despite a 30 million dollar budget. That's something that is not as common in the G5.
We seriously see ourselves as a team that can play at the P5 level one day.

We get a lot of comments about not having deep pockets, but I'm not really sure that's actually the case. We don't have a Fred Smith, we don't have one single person willing to throw as much money as they can at a single project to make sure it happens, but our giving is at record levels, and instead of coming out of a single donor, it's coming out multiple donors.
As for undermining an AAC or MWC shot, we're putting as much or more into getting into those two leagues currently, the Big 12 is simply a test run of our presentation, allow us to get feedback and tweak things before we go all out. This isn't about some savage attempt to stop Memphis from getting into the Big 12 for example, it's more of an attempt to measure how far we've come in year 5 of a plan to become a P5 school.

That is VERY interesting - thanks for sharing. OTOH, I know for a fact more than 18 G5's have reached out to the Big 12. Those listed are only the "current finalists" being considered.

ESPN would loooove that... lol.
ESPN is going to hate whoever they choose to add. They'd much rather the Big 12 sit at 10 teams. That's why no one seems to agree to whether or not 14 or 12 is the right number.
As for AState: We're not idiots. We all know we're not getting in this cycle. We're thinking about future cycles. Specifically for that inevitable time when Texas and Oklahoma bail and the Big 12 blows up. We want our name to be out there whenever the league reorganizes at that point.
Plus, we are already making a presentation to the AAC, so why not send one to the Big 12 as well. It's all about feedback and learning where you can improve.
Middle should have Cc Big 12 on their letter to the AAC

Do you work for the athletic department? How are you privy to such detailed information?

The donor stuff isn't exactly new information. Its out there publicly.
The rest isn't new info either. It's what Mohajir had suggested we would do during realignment. He's not claiming that's for sure the plan this time, but he's used this exact plan before.

Rice joined in the race to the Big 12! All bets are off.
