The back wall inside is just painted plain blue. I was wondering if they were going to have the large owl graphics on the front windows like in the rendering, or perhaps over the blue wall inside behind the weights?

I think in that album with the renderings of "branding" inside they have some weight room images. I'll go back and find it. I'm guessing things like that will be added over the next month before the first home game.

RE: HRS / EZF Construction Thread
The Patterson looks amazing! Hopefully it will be a tremendous asset for our teams moving forward.

In the schematics, it appears as if they will be installing bleachers on the concrete rows to reach all the way to the grassy areas to each side of the Patterson (a portion of this area is cordoned off by giant blue panels). The video feed shows hand rails and a concrete divider where the stands end and the grass begins. Will they be installing bleachers in this area before the season starts? Will they be doing the same on the south side of the bowl as well (next to the tarp), or will that be included in the Phase 2 work to be done to HRS?

Mini-stack of speakers now in place on the upper-right, aiming at the north end of the east side.

Looks like they may be getting ready to light the board up. Lower left corner is displayed in purple.

Indeed! I see a pixelated moire-type pattern shimmering on the board now.

To me, all that blue looks more like "a blue still deeper than the Oxford blue" (i.e., the true Rice blue) than the navy blue in the football uniforms. Or have the football uniforms changed and I didn't notice?

I don't think that our blue palette currently in usage is the correct hue.

Looking more and more like my yard.

Tonight's the first time I've seen the accent lighting along the walkways and under the overhang.

Main speaker stack in on upper-left.

It really looks good.
It also looks good from University, driving toward the Village.

Paul Johnson: Tech ‘way behind’ ACC in facilities, staff
Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016

Quote:...The impetus to renovate or build locker rooms, weight rooms, indoor practice facilities and the like is to win the attention of recruits. Clemson will open a $55 million football operations facility next year, complete with a 60-person cold tub, a bowling alley, barber shop and Wiffle-ball field.

“When kids walk in, that’s their impression,” Johnson said. “They see facilities, it’s like, you guys know it’s an arms race. And if you’re not building, you’re falling farther and farther and farther behind...”

I don't think we need a bowling alley or wiffle-ball field. I'm happy with the new EZF. Now we need to get the rest of the stadium renovated and upgraded.

The reality is that in modern-day CFB, if you're not constantly upgrading, you're falling behind.

For example, GT opened a new indoor facility in 2011. They renovated their Coaches offices in 2009/10.

Hard to compare that to our facility, which had to be 60 years old before it got touched.

RE: HRS / EZF Construction Thread
and on that note, LA tech just announced improvements to their stadium press box. The arms race isn't just with the P5s. Even down at the CUSA level, others are not standing still:

LA Tech Unveils Joe Aillet Stadium Improvements
New $16.7 million press box and guest suite facility to be built. An additional $2.1 million will be invested in other stadium improvements, including LED lighting, a permanent west side ticket booth, renovations to the west side bathrooms and aesthetic improvements to stadium entry points. The total price of $18.6 million for the various improvements will be funded 100 percent through private donations.

RE: HRS / EZF Construction Thread
I would love to see Rice's next set of HRS renovations to include something like what is in the LA Tech photo, but moved further down the upper stands so that the press box and suites aren't so far away from the field. Maybe leave 5-10 rows in front of the new area. I've never been in the press box, but numerous press members who have covered Rice over the years have complained about the press box. And mid-field suites could be put to multi-purpose uses at Rice. I'll let you know if I win the powerball...

My opinion isn't that the press box is too far away. It actually has a decent view of the entire field. The only reason someone would say it's too far away is because of the lack of fans in the stadium. If the stadium was full, there wouldn't be too much complaint. Has a better view than Reliant/Super Dome and many other stadiums I have been in.

I think the general complaint about the press box/club level is just the fact that it is super narrow and out dated. There is only one very slow elevator to get into the club level, then you have to take a flight of stairs to get up to the press box. This same elevator is shared between all media and club members. The only other option is taking the ramp to the upper deck, then climbing all the stairs to a door. Not ideal or quick at all. They do hold the elevator before the half and end of the game for media/coaches.

The radio/pa/coaches/tv rooms are on the same level as the club seats. The hallway here is super narrow and there is always some member of the media or coaches who gets caught behind some club member. This is very inconvenient and annoying for someone trying to do a job very quickly. I cannot count the number of times this has happened to myself.

It would be nice if the radio/tv/coaches were separate from the rest of the club.

The bathroom is very outdated and not very nice either. Just like the rest of the restrooms in the stadium before they started renovating them.

And then of course the common complaint with the media was the food. Thank goodness they finally got rid of Prince's. I know several people who would sneak food from the club level since it was connected.

Also, when I was last there a few years back, the stat tracker program/equipment they were using was very dated and pretty unreliable (bad signal). You were better off pulling up gametracker on your laptop for stats.
