I'm glad you posted this. The wife and I were discussing it last night...

If your premise was true, Northern VA would have broken off from VA years ago. Alas, NoVA is dependent on the Conservatives taxes like the rest of the Liberals, and doesn't have the luxury.

Southern VA cannot break away from NoVA for simple land mass, or they would have already.

Your premise is a false narrative, but you knew that already.

That piece of whatever it is, is possibly the worst written book, essay, whatever, I've read.

This is a quote from Thompson's book, which is mostly garbage, but the line “The South has operated like a competing nation in cannibalizing and degrading Michigan and the American auto industry.” is so true. Northerners are tired of paying higher taxes to support their free-loading cousins.

Chuck Thompson is pretty stupid. Guy lacks a lot of common sense.

All I see is bashing on the white southerner. How this guy brings in his altered history to prove his point that the Civil War was about slavery. Good luck finding that in actualy history books dated before the dawn of the PC era. Back when they had no reason to candy coat or walk on egg shells. Then they talk about "the eventual president carried just 10, 11, and 14 percent of the white vote in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana respectively,” Thompson writes. “An influential percentage of poor, uneducated, underserved, insurance-less white southerners..." Then he states the average income.

This guy must not realize that a vast majority of the poor, uneducated, underserved, and insuranceless people in the south are black. Nor does he realize that the cost of living is much lower.

I almost kind of feel sorry for Thompson, he contradicts himself throughout his entire article. Very typical of people like that.

Poor, uneducated whites are still on the "okay to mock" list, I see.

Is it just me, or is the author of this article that wormbizzle posted just dogging out Chuck Thompson for what he said? I stopped reading after he started talking about football as I didn't think it tied in to the story... But I also have someone talking in my ear while I type and read...

It is very telling that the author slams Southern voters for actually voting against policies and politicians that offer them the most "stuff", mocking the idea that voting out of principle is somehow inferior to voting out of self-serving interests.

There really is a huge difference in how liberals and conversatives view the role of politicians and government.........
