Good idea. Let's do that when gay people aren't discriminated against anymore.
[Forgive my pointedness and lack of censure] And to all the "being gay is a choice" folks out there... If you can't relate to "Did you choose to be sexually attracted to women?" then I don't know what to tell you. Tell me how I will be able to dictate to my body who I am physically attracted to. Tell me how I can become attracted to someone I am NOT ATTRACTED TO, not aroused by in any means, through my choice. Can't happen, I'm sorry. I would know.
Sexual preference is wherever you let your mind wander to. I had many phases where I have preferred Asians, black chicks, and even went through a phase where I liked fat chicks. If you were locked in a room with nothing but midget porn, you would eventually succumb to it. If you were repeatedly molested by your stepfather, your mind will take you to arousal by same sex acts, which is why the vast majority of those claiming to be homosexual were molested. It isn't a complete choice - nobody chose to be molested - but it is absolutely reversible.
Sorry, but honestly it doesn't work like that. I would know.

Similarly, the National Organization on Male Sexual Victimization notes on its website that "experts in the human sexuality field do not believe that premature sexual experiences play a significant role in late adolescent or adult sexual orientation" and added that it's unlikely that someone can make another person gay or heterosexual.
The Southern Poverty Law Center? Come on, man. A simple Google search will yield thousands of studies that say otherwise.

It's a free country and you can believe what you want, but I disagree. The sources saying there is a link far outnumber those that don't and I also believe sexual preferences can evolve and be changed. Male on male sex acts are not only unhealthy, but dangerous. If you want to engage, it is your right, but it is nothing to be "proud" about.

I think that homosexuality could be a 'choice'. Now that doesn't mean that I think a person just wakes up one morning and makes a concrete decision about their sexuality. It's more like a long running and refining preference and preferences can rarely be explained. It could just be one of those subconscious things that we all deal with.

FWIW-Gendreau's senior season was 2011 and was a disappointing 8-14 on fgs. So he's been out of competitive football for a year and wasn't good his senior season. He did have a 10-12 season as well as a 18-22 season and a career long of 55 yards, but unless he's found whatever it was he lost his senior season, I wouldn't expect Gendreau to even get a real shot as an UFA.

(04-24-2013 01:37 PM)KevinMac Wrote: Having gay tendencies might not be a choice, but being gay certainly is a choice. No one is forced to live a homosexual lifestyle, just like no heterosexual-inclined person is forced to live a lifestyle of promiscuity. A married man might have a natural desire to want to have sex with his neighbor, but he isn't an adulterer until he does it.
I think the gay community is taking a wrong tact by demanding that they be recognized as being "born that way." Everything else controversial is so centered around freedom of choice (drugs, abortion, etc), so when homosexuals demand they were born a certain way, it leads me to the conclusion that they are searching for absolution because a part of them feels the lifestyle is against nature. Otherwise, why not just say, "This is my choice, and I'm proud!" like every other modern movement?
There is no difference between a gay man and a straight man. They can go to the same places, they can have the same friends, they can do the same things. A straight man can marry any woman he wants, just like a gay man. A gay man can't marry another man (in most states), same a straight man. You can tell the younger
generation of people didn't see the struggles that blacks faced, or else they would recoil at ever using the term "civil rights" in connection with this movement.
This is easily one of the most brainless arguments out there.
"Gay people, quit your bitching, we aren't saying you can't get married, we're just saying you can't get married to the person you love and are attracted to. You don't hear me complaining about only being able to marry women, why don't you just find a woman, fool her into thinking you're straight, force yourself to pretend to be attracted to her and then you can get married and be happy just like me. You didn't choose to be attracted to men, but you can choose to bury those feelings and pretend to be something you're not! See just because you're gay doesn't mean you can't get married!"

Engaging in homosexual acts is a choice. Having a conscience that makes you desire homosexual acts... debatable where that comes from. My opinion is most are socialized into it for a variety of reasons, though some of the more flamboyant types, maybe less than 1% of the population, are probably born with some sort of chromosomal defect... the more stereotypical ones that clearly display instinctual character traits of the other gender.

Just sayin'. And I totally disapprove of his chosen lifestyle
Oh yeah? At what point did you choose to like girls then? Since it's a decision and all.
The first time we played doctor and I found out "hers" was different from "mine".
I was smitten.
Cheech and Chong described it best
"Your honor, I plead insanity"
"Insanity?"
"Yessir, I'm just crazy about that stuff"
That wasn't you "choosing" and your joke is actually counterintuitive to your point. You're saying you knew right away, at a young age before you even understood what sex was, that you were straight. Countless homosexuals have similar "ah ha!" stories.

Again, you pump out stereotypes as truth...by your reasoning, being heterosexual is also a choice...that means you actually had to say to yourself..."I'm going to like girls today!" Which is either very telling about you, or the most asinine thing I've ever read...and I'm thinking the latter is accurate.
And now your a geneticist? all gay people have a "chromosomal defect"...wow, you sound like the folks who thought gay men just lacked testosterone and shot em full of it...they just ended up with a bunch of horney gay guys.
There is nothing wrong or immoral about being gay...no matter how much you want to believe that to be true...I'm glad most Americans understand that.

Found out that Alan Gendreau graduated last year evidently but did not get drafter after that or this year.
Didn't work out in any NFL camps. Makes it more likely that his discussion of being gay may have been to get
an NFL shot.

Heterosexual is a choice. Usually unconscious, but we have been socialized into it as the normal way of life since the beginning of man. Go back and reread... I never said "all" homosexuals" have a chromosonal defect. The more stereotypical "flamer" or "bull dyke", however, clearly has some sort of deformity. That argument actually agrees with yours. I am conceding that that small segment of homos were likely "born that way". As for your last piece, we obviously have a different moral code.

I don't care what anyone does with anyone else. I don't feel compelled to you what I'm doing in my private life.
Keep that crap private.
The problem with "don't ask, don't tell" that most straight people overlook is that straight people tell all the f'in time. Especially when you get a large group of the same sex into a conversation. Not saying they shouldn't be able to talk about it but the other orientation should be able to talk about it as well.
I don't want to hear about anybody's private interactions. "don't ask, don't tell" is good for everybody. If you're cheating on your wife, I don't to hear about it. Just STFU about it. Goes for everyone. Talking about whatever you're doing or who you're doing is nobody's business but you and yours and ultimately between God and you.
This stuff reeks of look at me, look at me. Fifteen minutes of fame. The man played Division 1 football and was pretty decent at it. Had some good moments but I think most Raider fans would agree his senior year (2011) was a disappointment based on his earlier seasons. Did he get a sniff from the NFL fresh out of college? He's been away from college ball a year now. This looks a little like maybe this is a gambit to get an invite to camp.
Whatever happens, I hope he has success in his life, in or out of football.
