At this point I'm thinking the Cardinals and the Red Sox.

our (reds) bullpen isn't even at full strength and they've been dominate recently. we soon will get broxton and marshall back. and the starting pitching has been superb even without our ace. it's that damn inconsistent offense that'll keep us from winning in october. on paper we look fantastic.

I agree, y'all are nasty on paper. From where i'm sitting one of the big problems seems to be Phillips. He's having one of the worst seasons of his career and it clearly isn't helping the middle of the lineup

phillips isn't have a terrible year, he's second in the nl in rbi's. his average is down a bit but i'm not terribly worried about him. i mean i disagreed strongly with the contract he got, but he is one of the best second basemen in the game. little production from cozart, frazier, and meseraco imo is what is killing this team. it doesn't help that bruce disappears frequently.

Frazier and 'Raco have been hitting better of late though, and if Devin can turn into the type of righty hitter the Reds thought he might be, that's a great added weapon for the lineup.

Phillips has a high RBI total due to constantly having men on base in front of him (Choo & Votto) and a freakish BA w/RISP that's unlikely to continue, though I'd like to be wrong about that. But his overall BA, OBP, and SLG are all below his career averages. I wonder if he's still a little nicked up from when he got hit on the arm with a pitch a while back. Still, he's one of the best in the game defensively and I expect he'll be up around his career offensive averages by the end of the year.

Of the 16 2nd basemen in MLB who qualify for the batting title, phillips is 11 in OPS. However, like Sir Duke said, he's hitting an insane .407 with RISP!! How crazy is that?

Maybe Cardinals and Rays?

I'd like to see Braves, of course, but until they prove they can win again in postseason, they are suspect.

Cardinals have to thank the baseball gods for their excellent luck in not re-signing Pujols.

I'd like to see Red Sox or A's on th AL side- Billy Beane finally get to the worls series so they can make "Moneyball 2". I wish that movie went on longer.

RE: MLB Bold Predictions
If they find a closer Detroit will return to the World Series only to be swept again by St. Louis or Pittsburgh.

RE: MLB Bold Predictions
Nats finally seem to be showing a bit of a pulse. Took 3/4 from the Mets and scored 14 runs today. Even if they can't overtake the Braves, Reds or Pirates could falter and the Nats could overtake one of those teams. Even with all the problems the Nats have had- only 7 games out right now, with only Arizona in between them and the Reds.

Gonna be difficult for them to catch the Reds. Should make for an interesting stretch run

Well the Braves just swept the Cards.

Our pitching was on fire that series.

yep- makeup of a rainout in April along with original 4 game series.

brutal strech for the Cardinals- just got swept by the Braves
5 games in Pittsburgh
3 games in Cincy
4 home vs Los Angeles
then after 3 with the Cubs 3 more vs the Pirates

so in a 21 game stretch, 18 with the Braves, Pirates, Reds, Dodgers- or the other 4 playoff teams right now. Then after 3 with Cubs,Brewers- another stretch- 4 Braves, 3 Reds, 3 @ Pirates, 4 @ Reds, and 3 Pirates. So in a 44 game stretch, a whopping 35 are with the 4 other playoff games. They've started this stretch 0-3.

damn, that's a helluva stretch. I hope the reds come out of the NL. Can't decide which of the others I like less: braves, cards or dodgers. I guess the latter

RE: MLB Bold Predictions
thing now for the Pirates, if they play just .500 ball the rest of the way, they finish 92-70. It'd take my Nats for instance 40-17 to just tie them. Heck, it'd take the Reds 33-21 to just tie them for hosting the WC game...

Cards now 0-6 in this stretch.

boy if it were anyone but the Cardinals right now, it'd be big time panic time- losing 7 straight like this with 8 games upcoming vs Pirates, Reds, and Dodgers. Feels a bit like the wheels coming off quite frankly....

RE: MLB Bold Predictions
think one major saving grace with the Cards right now- even with as bad as it is right now, they're still 7.5 games up on Arizona for that 2nd WC spot- and 11 up on the Nats. Though it's funny- Nats get beat 2x in Detroit, and they've made up a game on St Louis this week.
