Enough is enough. If I am the AD at either school, I call the other. I would say time to put the pressure on. Both schools need to tell him you have until Noon est to make a decision and announce it to the world. If you don't, then both schools are moving on.

Oh I don't know, given the choice between winning games and losing games, I think they've been pretty decisive.

I just hope he makes up his mind soon. I'm growing weary of this cyber c!rcle j@rk. Then maybe we can move on to piss and moan about something else we also have no control over.

I know if he decides to stay I won't be happy with how this was handled and have lost a LOT of respect for CBJ in the process. Sounds like the CU fans feel the same with all of the delays and denials.
I didn't think this kind of situation could be handled any worse that BK did. I stand corrected. Congrats Butch (and handlers) you have really lowered the bar.
How is this being handled poorly? Jones is making a life changing decision for his family as well as the families of all the assistant coaches. Take time to digest all the nuances that the move would have.

I dont blame him with munchie , many people were effected, due diligence had to be preformed , family needed to be consulted . He was busy with other things.

To some extent I agree; however, shouldn't he have considered many of these factors before he boarded that plane to Colorado? Didn't he consider many of the exact same factors when he jumped ship from his last job to come here? He isn't exactly working for a P&G where you plan on staying in one place for the rest of your life. It happens once in a blue moon in college athletics, but it's very uncommon.

I think it is being handled more poorly by the ADs than Jones. Allowing him to string them along for so long puts whichever school is not chosen in a bad situation considering other good candidates are being swooped up elsewhere. The ADs are the ones who will still be at the school and have to pick up the pieces.

I'd hope both ADs have strong contingency plans in place. Of course, when the barrel's practically empty, what else is left but the bottom?

Speaking of AD, has anyone seen or heard from Whit Babcock? Why isn't he out front on this issue?

For all we know, they offered him the job here a year before Kelly left (when he was reportedly flirting with Tennessee), and it conveniently took him a year to get back to Mike Thomas with his answer.

Starting to wonder that myself. I guess it depends how it turns out. If they work something out and CBJ stays then I think Whit will be commended for silently working behind the scenes to get this resolved. If not, he's going to look a bit absent in all this. Out of town the day CBJ got back from Colorado; not one statement from him on the status of things. It feels a bit between Whit and Ono like we're all just sitting, pacing waiting for CBJ to decide. Although maybe he's been out working on a short list to replace CBJ if he leaves. Bottom line is the jury is still out on his handling of this until we see if CBJ leaves and then how quickly and ably he's able to get a new coach in.
But I do think a simple statement or two would've been nice versus total radio silence. Even if its just to say, "Butch is our coach, and we value him highly and we'll do everything in our power to try to retain him here." Goes a ways in calming the fanbase that we're fighting for whats best for us versus deferring to some jackassses in Colorado.

A college coach that isn't constantly thinking about possible career changes is like a fireman that doesn't think about fires. It's an inherent reality in the profession.
edit: I'm not beating the guy up so much as I am just honestly surprised by the fact that he needs this much time to decide.

I agree completely.
This whole process has been so ridiculous and has been handled very poorly by most in the media (mostly twitter-bugs and the media in Colorado). Although the longer this drags out, I am starting to take the opinion of Whit and Santa going to CBJ and saying we want an answer now, as they have to know that his loyalty to this University is nil. If we are fortunate enough to keep him, for the next year, you have to believe that after next year he will most likely be gone...this is 2 years in a row he has flirted with other opportunities and how long can we as a University sit around and wait, while looking like the dumped girlfriend when he bails? Maybe we should be a more like BC and say, hey if want another job, then go, you are out? Butch doing this two years in a row is getting stupid, and it proves he really doesn't want to be here. With that said, if he would stay for one more year, we can maintain our recruiting class and make a run at an all out BE championship and another BCS bowl next year. If that happens, Ono and Whit need to start putting the pieces in place for a new coach behind the scenes and working to get us into a better conference (priority #1), as that is what it will take to get top coaching talent.

It is a pretty tough decision if you think about it. Think about job decisions we make outside of the public eye. Many times people take a week or more to decide a big move. I spent ten days trying to figure out a job move once that involved a relocation. The move to another city was the toughest part to weigh and consider. I remember being really paralyzed by it, sitting by a phone ready to call and accept one minute only to flip flop the next minute wanting to decline. College coaches are expected to interview and decide within 24 hours sometimes. It goes with the territory for them but I do think it is a hard thing to figure out in a short period of time.

I get 'ya Murph, and I don't discount any of that. I've been there too. At the same time, college coaches are a different animal. Employer changes are not an occasional event for them, they're an inherent reality in the profession. Chances are you will change employers many times as a college head coach, or even in the road to get there. You pointed out that these guys are usually expected to decide within 24 hours. I just find it odd that Jones hasn't met that expectation. Not beating him up for it, but it is strange.

For some college coaches, their assistants have been with them forever and they are very close family...not just the head coach packing his bags and leaving.
