RE: Ford Might Be Leaving
Are we sure the new AD feels the same way about Senderhoff as Kennedy does?

RE: Ford Might Be Leaving
It really bothers me when our coach leaves us for a team that we would absolutely trounce. With that said, I would like to talk about what our coaching staff could be next year. I certainly feel that Senderoff will be the next head coach, if he isn't there is something seriously wrong with Mr. Nielsen. The big question for how next year will go comes down to who are the assistants and what recruits end up here. From what I've read I feel it is safe to bet that if Bobby Stienburg sticks around as an assistant then Chris Evans will defiantly come here. Also, I think keeping Mincy is key not only because that helps keep the two Memphis guards but also that keeps the pipeline he seems to be starting from Memphis to Kent. I hated to see us lose Chicago last year when Gates left but getting Mincy made that much less significant because of his ties to Memphis.
I think best case scenario is Senderoff as our head coach with Stienburg, Mincy, and Uken as the assistants and McKee moving up to Director of Basketball Operations. That might be difficult though as I would imagine Ford would try to bring some of his assistants with him.
Finally, one last thought. Does anyone know what Julian Sullinger is doing these days? If I were the new KSU head coach I would think long and hard about seeing if he would be interested in joining the staff. As a coaches son I'm sure he understands and appreciates the profession plus he was one of the hardest workers during his 4 years here. Also, he could open up an invaluable recruiting pipeline to Columbus, in particularly his dad's talent rich Northland team.

RE: Ford Might Be Leaving
The AD can either show he is a screw-up or he isn't a screw-up by not hiring or hiring Senderoff. I have little patience for this situation. I'm tired of everyone trying to fix football while basketball has been at a high level for more than a decade and hasn't gotten crud. I'm tired of pushing football attendance. I'm tired of overpaid football coaches who can't put together a game plan. I'm tired of being in the bottom 20 of D1-BCS (which is a joke since Kent will never play in a Bowl), while the program that works loses it head coach to a mid-major school in Peoria.

Take it easy. Rob will be a candidate, and in my opinion would be a fine hire. However, Joel Nielsen knows what he is doing and to call him into question if he doesn't promote Rob would be uncalled for.
As an aside, there are a lot of roster/player questions that a lot of you are unaware of at this point.

dannyb, what evidence do you have that Neilsen knows what he is doing? He really hasn't done squat yet to judge one way or another.

dannyb, I understand what you mean but if it ain't broke don't fix it. The reason Kent has maintained its success through the many coaching changes is because they hire from with in. Tradition not only doesn't graduate but it doesn't leave for a better job.
Also, here's hoping that the roster questions you eluded to are not any of the nucleus of this team. We could have a real special team next year, even with Ford leaving.

Bopol,
First, I am not going to lecture you or anyone else about being a Kent State fan. Kent State football is still Kent State. Golf, Wrestling, Baseball, are all sports we are proud of. I want it to be that way in football as well.
That being said, nobody who knows me would ever say any different to the fact that I live and die with KSU basketball. Basketball has most certainly been our flagship program the last 15 years. That being said, Rob is not the only guy who can lead us moving forward. I don't like losing Geno to Bradley anymore than you, but we are not ever going to pay our basketball coach $700,000.
In regards to JN, he has built successful programs in the past and from my personal interactions with him (which are extensive) I have the utmost confidence in his decision making. Have some faith my brother.

Let me also clarify that I know Coach Sendy and would be absolutely thrilled with him as our coach. I just don't believe that he is our only option.

Not to sound more negative but even if Senderoff gets the job, if next season is as good as we think it may be, we have a Stan Heath situation on our hands. Screw football, pay the basketball coach to make us the next Xavier or Gonzaga.

Right now I have a temporary dislike for Geno, but if he takes any players, recruits, or Mincy with him, it will quickly turn into a permanent hatred. Taking a new job is one thing, ruining the one you left behind is another.

Anyone else tired of the money aspect of all this. It's one thing for Kent to not be able to compete finacially with OSU, but to not be able to compete with TCU (oil money, dontcha know), Bradley (WTF, Catapillar?) is getting on my nerves. How long before Kent loses coaches to Bethane-Cookman or Chicago St.?

What money does Kent State have? I can't imagine 3,000 fans piles up money in the account. There hasn't been an NCAA run since 2002, so I can't imagine one-time donations are real high.
Christian left without an NCAA win, and Ford left without an NCAA appearance. Those aren't exactly top-notch resumes. If they don't want to be here, that is their loss, not ours.

Further by and large our school creates important, but not super wealthy individuals. Many of our programs like education and nursing are fine occupations but do not lend themselves to being able to give large sums of money even if they are passionate.

RE: Ford Might Be Leaving
I think a lot of you folks are being quite unreasonable. The finances are what they are. We don't have that kind of cash. I earn a nice living, but if someone offered me the ability to provide for my family in that manner, I would have zero loyalty to my current employer as well.
In regards to taking players/coaches with him. Sendy is going with Geno if he is not the head coach. Believe that. As for the other coaches, unless Sendy gets the job, they will not be guaranteed anything with a new coach coming in and that might sway them to go with Geno as well. Again, these guys have to worry about their ability to provide for themselves and/or their families.
I have insight to a lot of things going on with the players and roster that I just don't feel appropriate to share yet. However one thing I have no clue about but wouldn't surprise me entirely is if Eric Gaines decided to go be closer to home and went with Geno. That statement is 100% pure speculation.

One thing that people seem to have forgotten is their might be some issues with promoting Senderoff at this time. I have zero doubt he was thrown under the bus at Indiana, but his 3 year show-cause doesn't end until around Thanksgiving.
