Thank you for stepping into the leadership position under very difficult and emotional circumstances. Reports are that you want the “official” Interim Head Coach job at Kent State. The players want you, too. Most fans are excited about the prospect. FWIW, you are far and away my pick.

If you are offered the job and should you accept, there are a few things you should know:

1. The current administration has prioritized turning around football. It is where most of its attention, effort and dollars will go.

2. KSU will not be able to double your salary and incentives after every successful year.

3. Your recruiting and travel budgets are peanuts.

4. Your assistants are paid peanuts.

5. We don’t have as many fans as we should. Those who are fans are fickle. Expect one or two full houses a year, but average 2,500 or so butts in seats.

6. You do not have a dedicated practice facility, but have seen the facility plans and know it’s coming. You know that.

7. Until the renovation, you will share an office with Bob Lindsey.

8. Reports are the office couch is in poor condition.

Now you know these things in full disclosure. When the happy day comes that you are announced as the next Official Interim Head Coach and you share with us your overwhelming joy about accepting your dream job, remember it’s in full disclosure. When the happier day comes in a few years, the one in which you get the big gig and big payday, remember that you knew all of our warts before you lobbied for the job. Because if you don’t, I’ll remind you.

One final note. Sign a contract you can live with. We will not agree to pay you a sum of money and incentives, then believe what you are paid is “negotiable.” You will agree to a buy out clause that you will pay if you leave before your contract is up, or be paid on your behalf by your next employer. It’s not “negotiable”, either.

Geno is gone. I don't care anymore. I am not sure why we feel the need to rehash why he is gone. Last point, why doesn't someone take the time to tell me what each coach in the MAC makes and figure out if we are really treating our coaches so poorly. You cannot compare our situation to others outside of what we directly compete against. I would bet Geno was being rewarded accordingly for his efforts, so to say our coaches are paid peanuts or our recruiting budgets comparatively are peanuts, isn't entirely accurate.

You miss my point. I’m just disclosing the entire list of laments and whines we hear after coaches get their “dream job” at KSU. I just want the next coach to stipulate all the shortcomings we’ve heard post hire as reasons why our job is so tough.

For the record, I think our program and coaches are treated as well as anyone in the MAC and better than most. But when we read about complaints over hand me down couches, it get’s pretty petty.

I actually knew that was your point. And to the coaches that have said those things, maybe they should visit Butler and tell me why they aren't whining about what they have. Oh yeah, it's because they are busy playing in Final 4's.

No, Danny, you're right. KSU is great. Football is definitely worth the resourses that the school puts into it. And you are the greatest fan ever. What other wisdom do you wish me to agree with you on?

I can assure you, I don't need your validation to make me a real KSU fan.

Yes, I know. You have all sorts of insight that we don't have. I hate you, but secretly I wish I was you. Except for the time that the Kent center kept you from getting 'some tail'. And you're weird Justin Timberlake worship. I could do without those.

That damn Bill Davis. What the hell was he thinking??? Not sure why talking about how JT is a good golfer and how he bought a course in Memphis (his hometown) qualifies as a worship, but so be it! I will run with it. JT ALL THE WAY. :ncaabbs:

As to what Kent State has to offer a coach, in terms of facilities, pay, etc., let us not forget what Kent State had to offer Stan Heath, Jim Christian, Geno Ford and whoever the next guy is - their first job as a D I head coach, and with a program already successful! I think that is a pretty darned good thing, not to mention a salary that pays them more than 95% (at least) of all Americans! So, while all the pay and "perks" of many places may be lacking, those three coaches, and the soon-to-be fourth, have one heck of a lot to be grateful for!

The forum was better before DannyB started posting. He's the forum jerk. He dogs on other's opinions and acts like he's more in the know than everyone else (which he might be, but he certainly doesn't share any of that information, so who gives a darn). He called me out elsewhere, and I am sick of his crap there and here. I point to "This is the DUMBEST thread ever." No one else here pulls that bs except for the great DannyB.

And I represent the angry fan right now. The one that is sick of Kent acting like a second class act in a second class atmosphere.

You have a point, Bopol. That "dumbest thread ever" thing was out of line, and that is why I retaliated, then dropped it. Also, if someone, whether it be dannyb73 or anyone else, has insider information that they aren't at liberty to disclose, they shouldn't even mention it at all.

It sure can be frustrating being a loyal fan of Kent State ( or any other MAC school, I assume), isn't it?

Bopol,

I agree with you. Just don't get into a back and forth like Carducci did a year or two ago. We don't need to lose another good poster.

I'm with you bopol. because he filled up water cups, cleaned jocks or hung out with some of the players (i'll use that term loosely) from the early 90's or whatever his connection to KSU his arrogance and bashing anyone elses opinion IMO can be annoying.

To the few who are bashing me.....if you look through posts the last few days, I am the one with the voice of reason. Not the guy who is crying about the resources we don't have. Or the guy who is crying about dropping football. "WE WILL NEVER GO TO A BOWL GAME". I am the guy who has gotten 4 PM's in the last day wanting to know what I know, complaining about the few who are bashing KSU on here (which is happening).

I am quite certain I publicly, in that forum, apologized for whomever I offended with that statement. Although I do stick by the fact that having multiple threads going at the same time with the same topic is somewhat silly.

To ksu315: The trainer did the water, the equipment guy did the jocks, and I lived with 3 basketball players. I know more than you, and not afraid to admit it. You want to bash me, be prepared to take what is coming your way.

BTW - Kent76, do you want me to tell you the names of transfers before it is announced and jeopardize the fact that it is likely going to happen? Or recruits before they have signed? If I can provide folks with some good news and still keep things somewhat under wraps, I think that is best case scenario. If you would rather not know some things, I will be glad to only share with those who PM me and ask.

No, I don't want you to do that dannyb73. And I don't think I'm bashing you. I like your posts for the most part, just as I like most posts. I don't aree with you 100% of the time, but I don't agree with anyone 100% of the time. I just want to say, and no disrespect intended, it CAN be irritating when someone "teases", whether it be you or anyone else. It is like the local TV channels that "tease" throughout the day with some blockbuster news item, then at 11:00 PM continue to "tease" until the end of the newscast, before their big news item is revealed, and it turns out to be nothing. Still, I'm not even asking you not to do that. You, and everyone, are free to post what you like.

And Bopol, I completely agree with your comment about a "microcosm" of what is wrong with a lot of society.

We are cool - I wasn't referring to you as bashing me. I understand about the teasers, I just get enough questions that makes me think people like some news better than no news. Guess you cannot please everyone all the time. 03-banghead

I'll be the first to admit you have more inside information than i do, which is none other than what Dave Carducci provides me. Congrats to you. But to state that inside info makes you more knowledgable about the game is flat out wrong. I'm not in the athletic business but i know the game very very well. As well i think i know the game i'm also not afraid to admit that there are many ways to play this game and all have different strengths and weaknesses.

We're all KSU fans just check your ego as you dont know it all and neither do the 4 guys coaching in Houston this weekend. thats the beauty of the game.

If you show me where I said I was more knowledgeable about the game than you or everyone else, I will resign from the board forever. I don't think you will be able to do that.

Also, I only threw out the card that I know more than you because you started a personal attack on me, which quite honestly was uncalled for. As an FYI, in my first year of participation, I did have the highest winning percentage this year of KSU fans picking MAC conference games. 03-lmfao

So, I'm not allowed to question whether or not the investment in football over a successful basketball program is worth it because DannyB thinks I'm crying. And I'm not allowed to challenge the conventional thinking that we are acting like a minor league mid-major basketball program and that shouldn't be ok with everyone because DannyB thinks that I am not being reasonable.

So, I'm not allowed to discuss what I want on this forum because DannyB dictate it so. And who the hell are you? Really, what have you done? You like basketball, but so what? You kiss up to the coaches to get some info, which is fine, but it doesn't give you the right to come here and treat me and others who have been here a long time like crap.

That's fine. I don't need this crap, I have enough of it in my life already.

Enjoy this lunatic until you walk away like I did.
