Why would they wait around when you already told them you weren’t interested in playing the team they already had lined up? If anything this version of events just confirms what everyone’s been saying about the arrogance coming out of Ruston, and fuels speculation into why y’all didn’t want to play us in the first place (it’s because they were scared)
Whenever this story comes up, LT fans are like, “For the last time: we did not stay home instead of playing ULM!
What actually happened was we didn’t want to play ULM and ended up staying home instead. That’s totally different.”

I would think a USM fan, a school that actually has some historical success in football, would understand. Tech has now played in SEVEN Indy Bowls (4-2-1 record), so the allure of playing in another bowl, such as the Liberty Bowl is far greater than, Ho hum, another I Bowl...and to boot, against a nothing football program like NLU/ULM? Come on, man!
NEWS FLASH! if something similar were to happen again, I would expect/hope Tech to do the same thing, TRY to get an invite to another bowl rather than just jump at the early I Bowl invitation.
Well, look, those Chickenhawks have their SUPER BOWL next week. The few fans they have can get out all their frustration then.

I assure you, if USM ever overplayed its hand with a bowl committee and ended up staying home at 9-3, we’d call for our admins’ heads and be mad about it until the end of time instead of still defending it as the right decision 24 years later.
That you’re actually content with how it played out is kinda the whole point here. If anybody would just say, “Yeah, we got too big for our britches and it bit us in the butt,” it wouldn’t even be a topic all these years later, but instead it’s the Independence Bowl’s fault for having the unmitigated gall to hold you to a deadline and you’d totally do it all over again given the chance.
That you’re totally oblivious as to why that makes you look like a bunch of a**hats is fascinating, honestly.

One or two fans don't speak for our entire fanbase and neither do one or two USM fans speak for your entire fanbase.
There were plenty of us "a**hats" who were furious, yet mostly powerless, to do much more than loudly complain. Our players earned a bowl game...whether in Shreveport or Memphis or Timbuktu. They didn't get to play. Our 2012 Seniors closed out their college football careers by sitting at home. They were the true victims of a terribly played hand.
As a result of the 2012 bowl fiasco (and some other mishandlings)...that athletic director was terminated. But that was 14 years ago. I've been a Tech fan all my life, and can tell you, my University "Tech's things up" so often, it would literally be a waste of emotion and sanity to be mad about 2012 until the end of time. I'd be suicidal by now.
If only we were as perfect as USM.

It was sad because we had a really good team that season - almost beat Texas A&M with Johnny football in Shreveport and we were ranked in the top 25 during the season.
RE: [A Collaborative Thread] What did the Ragin Cajun do the last time ULL beat Tech?
Hey we are supposed to collaborate here. Start collaborating. This is an academic project in order to understand the historical life experience of a Ragin Cajun the last time they beat Tech. It was September 1996.
The last time ULL beat Tech, the Ragin Cajun was distraught that the radio DJ spoke over the ending of "Ironic" by Alanis Morrisette while he recorded it on his tape cassette.

Wow! I thought more highly of USM...well, I'm sure you don't represent all USM fans. You're totally oblivious how your take makes you look so small time.
BTW, I, and most Tech fans, I'd guess, are not "content" on how it played out. There is so much more to the 2012 "story," WAAAY beyond the I Bowl. But all you "Sun Belters" can see is how stupidly the I Bowl played it. SMALL TIME!
No point in addressing "the rest of the story" as Paul Harvey would say, you small time Belters wouldn't get it.
NOTE: I know how this may come across, but my "small time" comment is not aimed at ALL Sun Belt fans, just those who think like NLU fans and this one USM fan.
By the way, there is an entire thread, not started by a Tech fan, advocating "ULM" be drummed out of the Belt. Yet, others wanted Tech to tell the Liberty Bowl, no thanks, don't consider us, we want to play ULM in the I Bowl.

Yeah, I’m just going to find another thread and let you keep typing since you’re making my point better than I could ever hope to.

Waving the white flag, eh. That's okay, thanks for the chat.

Well, the fact remains that the two schools played 9 times since the last time ULL won, and LA Tech won all 9 meetings.
