Looks like the SD average before the war was around $2.59 a gallon. But that region normally runs a tad higher due to it being touristy.

Bottom line, you're also paying more than a dollar more there per gallon.

Enjoy! At least Iran isn't going to nuke you in two weeks, AMIRITE?

03-lmfao That's pretty funny and I agree w/ your opinion of this war.

What's funnier is that you're having to admit things were going pretty good under Trump before.

Yeah...no. Yes, gas prices were cheaper. No, trump had nothing to do with that.

His tariff nonsense had already mucked things up long before his idiotic war.

From what I can find, the price in NC before trumps idiotic war was around $2.71. So, you're paying around $1 more. 07-coffee3

If cheap gas was such a big thing before the war why are Democrats still raising gas taxes?

Not sure what has to do with the current discussion, but whatever. Most states use gas taxes to pay for roads and things. 07-coffee3

Way to dodge the question. VA Dems raised the gas taxes during a time of higher than normal gas prices. If they cared so much about high gas prices, why would the raise the gas tax?

In other words, the POTUS, according to some people, only affects gas prices when it's a Republican and not a Democrat.

The "question" doesn't ******* belong here!

And I don't give a **** what Virginia does. But looking at it, they appear to index their taxes to inflation ever since a law was passed back in 2022. And the last couple years it's only gone up a few cents.

Lastly, once again, it's a same old logical fallacy to conclude that just because you increase a gas tax to fund roads and keep up with inflation that you can't also care about high gas prices. And sure, they could suspend or delay the tax like Ohio and Indiana did...but state budgets are usually pretty tight. Doing that would likely just kick the can down the road on other important things the state pays for.

Here's an idea, why not just stop the idiotic war, get rid of the moronic tariffs...and let the price of gas and inflation come down naturally?

That would really suck if we actually bought barrels of oil to directly fuel our cars! 03-yawn

And who buys those barrels of oil? 07-coffee3

THE point was that we don't buy oil for our cars gas tanks, we buy gas.

Maybe this will make more sense to you?

Quote:The national average gas price has topped $4 a gallon for a total of 158 days in 2026, setting a record for the largest number of days ever recorded above $4 in a calendar year, GasBuddy petroleum analyst Patrick De Haan said in a post on X on Wednesday.

The Iran war caused gasoline prices to surge after fighting in the Strait of Hormuz prompted a historic oil supply shock.
Gas prices set record for highest number of days above $4 a gallon in a calendar year

Heckuva job, Orangey. Oops!

Narrator: The year is not over yet.

Was my question too complicated for an answer? You being the oil & gas expert around here.

Well, ****, most of you guys think the 9% inflation, $5 gas under Biden was basically all his fault...so now you don't want anyone on the left to apply that same standard to trump?

Seems a bit hypocritical, no?

But let's be honest. Anyone with a modicum of common sense can see the gas go from $3 to $4.50 in just a few weeks after trump started his idiotic war in Iran. So other than blaming Bibi for that, who else but trump caused that? You can't really say Ukraine as they were attacking Russian energy infrastructure for long before we started with Iran. 07-coffee3

No, but it was rhetorical. It didn't need answered. Everyone knows that the whole of the globe buys the barrels of oil. But yes, you do have to understand some things about the O&G industry to know why the price that oil is being traded at on the global market doesn't always correlate 1:1 to the price at the pump. Historically, it pretty much has. But what that graphic shows is that trump has managed to manipulate the market to keep the price of oil low "ish" while gas prices remain elevated.

Protip: You'd be wise to not listen to politicians and internet memes to get your information. 07-coffee3

The point was and still is, when a President of the US starts his term and comes out and states he will do everything he can to reduce our reliance on oil - that WILL have an effect on oil prices.

You chose to opine that it would not.... When one of THE LARGEST consumers oil oil and oil products on the planet says we are going to cut back, that IS going to affect prices. Adding to that statement was the timing of it which all but doubled down on already escalating upward pricing pressure (which he did not start). Biden DID affect prices just by opening his mumbling mouth and doubling down on an already volatile situation.

Waaay back then, had you just acknowledged that simple and f-ing obvious thing, half of this gas thread and veiled shots at you would never have been posted. But you know... Trumps fault, not Joe.
