And who buys those barrels of oil? 07-coffee3

THE point was that we don't buy oil for our cars gas tanks, we buy gas.

Maybe this will make more sense to you?

Quote:The national average gas price has topped $4 a gallon for a total of 158 days in 2026, setting a record for the largest number of days ever recorded above $4 in a calendar year, GasBuddy petroleum analyst Patrick De Haan said in a post on X on Wednesday.

The Iran war caused gasoline prices to surge after fighting in the Strait of Hormuz prompted a historic oil supply shock.
Gas prices set record for highest number of days above $4 a gallon in a calendar year

Heckuva job, Orangey. Oops!

Narrator: The year is not over yet.

Was my question too complicated for an answer? You being the oil & gas expert around here.

No, but it was rhetorical. It didn't need answered. Everyone knows that the whole of the globe buys the barrels of oil. But yes, you do have to understand some things about the O&G industry to know why the price that oil is being traded at on the global market doesn't always correlate 1:1 to the price at the pump. Historically, it pretty much has. But what that graphic shows is that trump has managed to manipulate the market to keep the price of oil low "ish" while gas prices remain elevated.

Protip: You'd be wise to not listen to politicians and internet memes to get your information. 07-coffee3

Protip, you should take your own advice. 07-coffee3

Another protip, have you ever heard of oil speculators and how they make their money? 07-coffee3

They don't ..... except when they do.

Why are you playing along with this lunacy. You also know what I've ******* said on this time and time again. 07-coffee3

The point was and still is, when a President of the US starts his term and comes out and states he will do everything he can to reduce our reliance on oil - that WILL have an effect on oil prices.

You chose to opine that it would not.... When one of THE LARGEST consumers oil oil and oil products on the planet says we are going to cut back, that IS going to affect prices. Adding to that statement was the timing of it which all but doubled down on already escalating upward pricing pressure (which he did not start). Biden DID affect prices just by opening his mumbling mouth and doubling down on an already volatile situation.

Waaay back then, had you just acknowledged that simple and f-ing obvious thing, half of this gas thread and veiled shots at you would never have been posted. But you know... Trumps fault, not Joe.

But. It. Did. Nothing. Of. The. Sort.

The numbers are there. Go look. It had no lasting effect on, anything! Just like nothing happened when Keystone was finally killed.

Again, stop listening to politicians. Big Oil knew full well that Biden's comments were nothing but bluster and that we are nowhere near moving towards ridding ourselves of fossil fuels.

And yes, I have admitted that his comments did have an effect. But that effect was very minimal. Again, because Big Oil is infinitely smarter than any politician...especially Biden and trump!

Finally, I've explained time and time again, trumps deal with OPEC that lasted into the middle of 2022...which slashed production bigly...was one of the biggest drivers of the $5 gas we saw under Biden. That and Russia-Ukraine, Stimulus, and Covid.

Yes, and thanks for that. And why do I need to start more threads. That's all CP and the majority of you do already. What more needs covered? The DNC is a joke. They're not worth my time. 07-coffee3

Maybe some hope this could be coming to an end.

Though Darren Woods (Exxon CEO) is saying he expects refining to remain tight through 2027.

Of course I also remember several oil company CEOs and industry “experts” coming out of the COVID oil price crash that industry would have to learn to operate in a sub 50/bbl market for the next couple years, only to find ourselves at $80 WTI in October 2021.

True, I guess it's this time of year that they stop with the summer blend? That and maybe less summer travel?

They actually suspended it early this year on September 1st, to try and get prices lower. That really didn't do much at the time.

It's just the basic law of demand at this point...fall/winter means less driving, less vacations, kids back in school, etc.

Let's see... Should I listen to someone who gets his "petroleum insights" from a guy who's been known to have a leftist slant in everything he does, even when it doesn't require one, or someone who actually works in the oil industry like PetroCajun? Gee whiz, Wally! The choice is hard! /sarcasm

Tom just love polishing the left's chrome it's become pathetic. 07-coffee3 (And yes, I said it. Deal with it.)

No clue what you're babbling about, but nowhere did I contradict a word Petro said.

That being said, I don't know him nor his credentials. And while he seems to know what he's talking about, I've seen dozens of folks on social media who claim they work on rigs and in the fields and such who don't know what they're talking about most of the time.

I get my information from a globally recognized expert with 30 years experience in many facets of the industry. Someone who is publicly known and whose credentials are verifiable. And if you're talking about my expert, no, he's does not in any way have a "leftist" slant. He's an independent...and he takes both D's and R's to task all the time. If you have even listened to a fraction of his content, you'd know that. But yes, he does and will continue to take trump and Wright to task because they're the ones currently in charge and they are completely full of **** most of the time...not because they are Republicans. 07-coffee3
