RE: Murder At Texas Track Meet
Thanks @gdunn for answering my question. I asked AI the same thing and apparently under Texas law, carrying a weapon unlawfully does equate to "looking for trouble." If this goes to a Jury, then the prosecution will most likely make this argument. I have kids that play sports and so I feel for Austin's family.

Anthony skipped school to go to the track meet - Ok so he skipped school and went to a function. That's not a crime, I guess

Anthony then proceeded to go under a school's tent and sit. It was Texas and I imagine, not that big of a deal if he was invited, but doesn't appear he was.

Metcalf then asked him to move to which, he opened his bag and said "touch me and see what happens". So the whole "self defense" to me goes out the window. He came to a track meet with a knife, and I'm imagining a knife like the Marines have for fixing bayonets. He came expecting trouble or causing trouble.

Metcalf had actually participated in the meet and was awaiting the next event he was participating in, or that's what I've understood.

Scuffle occurred and Anthony stabs Metcalf. Runs and when apprehended, the cops state they have the alleged perp, and Anthony responded, it's not alleged I did it. Then after getting in the back of the car started asking about self defense.

Supposedly there's video of the incident.

I'm interested to see if it was and what actually happened.

I'm sure it's not that cut and dry, and Metcalf probably isn't as innocent as they say, but I'm sure Anthony wasn't just being an angel either.

You don't get to murder someone just because they asked you to move.

You also don't get to murder someone just because you got into an argument and scuffle at school.

You also don't get to murder someone just because you are black and they are white.

When I was growing up back in the 70's, 80's and 90's, every knew those were basic, retard proof rules. Actually everyone knew that back in the 2000's as well.

Now in 2025 they are all up for debate.

Nice job progressives, what a wonderful world you have built for our children.

You are correct.

I never had a problem with two people that had a disagreement duking it out if they chose too as long as when one person says uncle the fight stops. This is no longer the case, and people are making excuses for murder. Sad times.

That was me.. I said it.

I carry a pocket knife on me, do I intend to stab anyone? No. When people ask me to do something I don't like do I grab it and say, touch me and see what happens? No. This kid came with a knife long enough to get to a kid's heart. But when confronted his first reaction was to open his bag, and say, Touch me see what happens. In my opinion, he went looking for trouble.

We're not talking about a Case pocket knife, we're talking about a knife he had to put in a bag to carry cause it probably wouldn't fit in his pocket.

he was carrying a weapon unlawfully and used the weapon unlawfully, does that make the charges against this man more significant? No but it does seem to me that his argument of "self defense" is out the window. He didn't try to reason with anyone and his first reaction when met with anyone questioning him was to grab the knife and say, do this and see what happens.

For most adult males it takes a knife with an angled blade, over 5" inches in length (most military killing knives have blades around 7" long) to be able to stab vital organs through the rib cage, and then most of them need a blood grove to prevent suction so they can be easily retracted. The public carry of such knives is prohibited because only military and law enforcement may buy them.

Now can you kill a man with a pocketknife? Sure, but the throat and neck would be the targets and not the chest. And a hunting knife with a 5" blade can kill too. Sure, but they aren't designed the same way, and it would take more effort or solid knowledge of anatomy and the vascular system.

Now to the point, I know of no public school which allows any weapons at all on campus or at events. It was in his bag because he needed to conceal the fact that he had it and because of compliance with the rules he was fairly certain his intended victim would be unarmed. This shows premeditation. It's a murder, period!

Sorry dude, but this is one of the most idiotic retarded posts you ever made and you’ve made some doozies.

This is not a black white issue. This a disturbed individual who selfishly skipped school and went to a school event track meet and intentionally went to another schools tent to start trouble.

Both were Frisco ISD High Schools. Centennial and Memorial.

Why anyone wants to make excuses or turn this into some social issue is beyond me.

It’s one idiot who destroyed the life of a random person as well as his own because of some senseless violence. He picked the wrong state and will be tried as an adult. This is on him no one else.

That has become a major crippling crutch for this country. Trying to understand why the thug committed the atrocity instead of making examples of them.

fsquid was spot-on. You're in denial if you think his comment was out-of-bounds.

Can't buy it. Every guy, and occasionally a gal, that goes on a killing spree, does a mass shooting, and people of all races who commit a passionate homicide all claim to be angry, have anger issues, or lousy home lives growing up. Don't give a damn about the reason, just the crimes when other lives are taken. Heard the same about Italian men, Irish men, Puerto Rican men, Rural Poor White men, and a few women. Murder is murder. Privilege due to circumstance is a B.S. legal argument designed to appeal to emotion and not reason and isn't justice. We either equally enforce laws or live in anarchy. That's it.

You've got to throw out a lot of statistics on family and crime to believe there's no difference.

Self defense doesn’t work for this sub 80. That only works if you feel in danger of losing your life. Hardly the case here. But I’ll let the local loony lawyer prove me wrong.

I’m reading some really effed up responses from people online competing this to the Kyle Rittinghouse and George Zimmerman cases and how we need to “protect black kids.” If people believe this comparable to those cases or that even if you think those outcomes were not just it gives your license to commit a crime to another we are fooked as a country.

Well they listened to CNN, MSNBC, and the Daily Show. They heard all the talking points but never the truth.

Typical liberal bullchit. If they want to protect black kids they would make damn sure they were in good schools getting an education whether they liked it or not.

LOL! You have to throw out the American Justice System and the principles of not only justice but the rights of a citizen in a democracy to do anything but try the perpetrator of the crime without consideration of their race and uncontrollable factors like upbringing. Justice is to be blind, not biased to race. Every citizen has the same rights, race doesn't give more largess to anyone.

Only people who can't accept the principles upon which this nation was founded want it to be otherwise and frankly we've tolerated it far too long. In fact, long enough so that our children no longer grasp that democracy is inextricably tied to the principles of blindness of justice and have heard lies so long they are actually believing that it should be otherwise. If you want a civil war, then enforce the law unequally. Our adversaries beyond our border, (Maoists) believe that the only way to destroy the U.S. internally is by racial agitation. Malcom X rejected it and was killed. Martin Luther King rejected it and was killed. China had offered to fund each of their movements. Marxist/Leninist attacks on democracies took on class as the division line to exploit. The U.S. Middle Class was far too healthy to be persuaded to attack the Upper Class. So, their approach failed. Mao said to destroy any melting pot civilization racial division had to be exploited. Great Britain, France, Australia, Canada and the United States have all had that stick used against them. But the U.S. is the most mixed and here it has been successful in moving us off center from blind justice and equal rights. Mao believes if one side has favorable treatment (doesn't matter which one) then the other sides will revolt. Hiring quotas via affirmative action has made race frequently more important in a hiring than ability. That impacts the quality of the work. In the legal system unequal penalties due to race is eroding confidence in the law and its enforcement.

These are fundamental attacks on the principles of democracy and an attempt to unsettle our nation and make its citizens fight each other. I reject anything that erodes from our laws, their enforcement, our business efficiency in our hiring anyone but the most qualified, and by fanning the flames of division over every divisive issue they can exploit. I am adamantly opposed to anything which divides us as a nation, anything which violates equal rights for all races of our citizens, and anything which imparts racial favoritism by incorporating social arguments instead of is he or she guilty. Everyone who has mental capacity chooses to commit a crime. If they do they are guilty.

I haven't gotten into the weeds of this but apparently there is video and since that has not been leaked by the family or defense it's really all you need to know.

JR.... I'm not throwing out anything regarding our justice system. I simply agreed w/ fsquid that many young black men are angry and have no self control due to lack of a father figure. That's a fact. The statistics on black fatherlessness and crime rates bear it out. You've basically built a straw man to say I don't care about equal justice. I want equal justice. I also recognize that young black men are far more likely to commit crime. 2 things can be true. The latter doesn't mean I want them treated unfairly when they're in court.

I don't build strawmen, ever! What you want and are asking consideration for simply is not possible in a justice system built on equality. I freely acknowledge that children, any children, from broken homes are much more likely to develop antisocial personality traits. But the purpose of law is ascertaining guilt or innocence and issuing an appropriate punishment or acquittal and that based upon "THE FACTS OF THE CASE" and not the "CIRCUMSTANCES OF RACE AND UPBRINGING". We can't make every person's upbringing a matter of consideration in a case built upon violations of the law when the facts of the case make it clear that the accused is guilty and then offer them special considerations because of their upbringing. Life is not fair. Justice is about did you, do it? If so, you get sentenced.

Equal justice is not about "having equal abilities, equal education, or equal opportunities" and never has been. Justice is supposed to be blind to poverty and blind to privilege. There are problems on both ends of that spectrum today. Privilege is too acknowledged and can afford better lawyers and endless appeals and that needs to be dealt with as well. But in justice the equity is supposed to be in how the innocent and guilty are treated.

Where the prisons fail miserably is in teaching self-control, teaching life skills, and in decreasing the recidivism rates. The "Corrections" system isn't correcting anything and is only producing more hardened criminals with more antisocial rage. And that happens when prisoners don't have a right to equal protection under the law of their punishments. No protection is not equal protection. But that's another argument.

What you refuse to acknowledge is that a lousy upbringing is no excuse under the law though the left loves to make it so for the purpose of appealing to the black male vote. The reality is for all of the liberal arguments for "special considerations for the minorities" they actually aren't impacting their futures or doing a damn thing for them.

30 years ago I advocated for public schools with dormitories with young teachers present so that kids from broken homes could stay at school, under its protection, have access to tutors, 3 square meals a day, and a chance to break the cycle of poverty. There is nothing in our way of life which should prevent an enlightened society from acknowledging that if you are to break cycle of poverty and crime the time to do it is in their younger years and through giving them what they can't get at home. They can still head home on Friday and stay there through Sunday unless DFACS says otherwise, but if you want to break the cycle you have to replace the lack of the father with good coaches and tutors. And a system which instills and rewards discipline. If the kids can't behave well enough for that setup, then juvenile detention centers may have to be utilized. You have to protect the kids making good use of a dorm and tutors.

Education doesn't want to do that. States don't want the overhead. And that is shortsighted as the cost of the courts, of prisons, and the damage to the harmony of society is great enough that anything which can cut the cycle of failure, maladaptation, and the development of antisocial behavior benefits us all before the life of the child and its path forward is tracked for failure and crime.

The solutions you seek by acknowledging the kind of upbringing need to be applied before they are criminalized and incorrigible, not after they become criminals.

The Justice System needs to remain the same for everyone, and constantly observed to make sure it is, and on both ends poor and privileged.

But the time to break the cycle which plagues African American children is before they fail and before the street takes them and not at a damned sentencing.

The issues here are more than several and instead of creating a strawman I'm counting the complexities and saying at which stage of the cascade to crime it needs to be stopped, and after violent crime is not a time for leniency. The help needs to come while they are teacheable children.
