Do you know how paying at the pump works?

When people drive into the gas station, pump the gas into their car, and pay the bill, it really doesn't matter at all to him/her how the price came to be, only that it is.

Everyone (like you) is simply sky screaming about the price of gas. That to the public is the price posted on the pump. If the poorly run state of California (for example) wants to add a $5.00 surcharge to the price of the gas as they got it and pass that along to the consumer, then that is the price YOU would pay in California.

Bottom line is, if $4.00 per gallon at the pump is too high for people to tolerate then so be it. That would be a comparison from a previous time when they were paying just $3.00 per gallon at the pump. NOBODY cares about how that price came to be (state taxes, federal taxes, shortages, etc.), only that it did.

Also, I'm quite sure that the people in other countries that have to pay even more for their own gasoline than we do only care about the bottom line as well. Is that so difficult of a concept for you to grasp? Never mind, I already know the answer to that.

Inflation adjusted oil prices were highest under Carter, Obama and Biden during my lifetime and it isn't even close. The actual price for four years under Obama was higher than it is now.
