Do you know why "what aboutism" exists? Because once the baseline of idiocy is redefined and defended----then its pure folly to whine about the exact same thing later. Your precious RINO's presidents Bush-n-Bush did the same thing---except they spent more money than Trump did on their efforts--- lost more lives, and accomplished zero in retrospect. But lets just forget what-aboutism and look at the current Iranian situation.

Lets look at this logically from the Iranian side. They were building HUGE stockpiles of missiles while slowly grinding forward on their nuclear program. Why? Your seeing why. Thier plan was to get to the point where they had a ballistic missile that could hit the US and then they would sprint to the finish line on the nuke. They understood that once they could hit the US (even if it was just conventionally), we'd be unlikely to do anything militarily to stop them from developing a nuke. The Iranian back up plan was what you're seeing now---use their proxy forces and their huge existing stocks of missiles (that cant hit America directly) and employ these assets to interrupt the world oil supplies---thus, hitting America indirectly.

Thus, if the US goal is to prevent Iran from getting a nuke, this was the last chance to act without the US mainland absorbing direct military punishment. Thats the bottom line. So, its kinda hard to argue with the current action. As for gas prices---they will likely remain elevated until this Iranian conflict is over. The Iranian conflict will likely not be over for a while if the US has to go it alone---however---the oil situation has reached the point that Im now seeing more and more previously reluctant allies joining the effort. Its going to take a coalition to accomplish this because we have let our military slide while convincing ourselves we could fight 2 MAJOR wars at one time (clearly, that was laughably delusional with the pitifully limited stockpiles on hand).

While I dont agree with Trump on his Ukrainian policies---I do think he had little choice but to act here. Iran has been a game of kick the can down the road and he simply happened to be in the chair when the can was no longer able to be safely kicked down the road again. A reality that many Americans seem to have forgotten is---"just because something is hard, doesnt mean its not worth doing". I happen to think dealing with elevated gas prices for a year or so is worth the Iranians being blocked from a nuclear weapon (and likely ends with them no longer having any real ability to interfere with world oil supplies).
