No. Just woefully uninformed and misguided.

I find it stupid. Too many people are reading too much into it.

It might be a bit inflammatory even if it makes a cogent historical point.

It makes a point but it's no longer something that needs advertising. People have picked their sides and aren't leaving them.

No. They should plaster those all over the damn place. Unfortunately a large portion of our government schooled population would have no idea WTF this is about.03-banghead

I disagree many people are not taught history and what we have the constitutional rights we have. Every chance we get to educate them is worth it..

What point is that?

That the first thing a government has to do before they dominate and subjugate a people is disarm them..

Yeah...clearly the natives should have brandished their weapons and kept fighting. Then there'd be none of them left.

The problem is that there is no correlative point to today in what happened. Our government is not trying to drive you out of your homeland and take it over.

Quote:Irene Vernon, a Colorado State University professor and chairwoman of the ethnic studies department, said the message on the billboard is taking a narrow view of a much more complicated history of the Native American plight. She said it's not as if Native Americans just gave up their guns and wound up on reservations.

"It wasn't just about our guns," said Vernon, a Native American.

Greeley resident Maureen Brucker, who has worked with Native American organizations and who frequents the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota as an honorary family member, said she thinks the billboards are making light of atrocities the federal government committed against Native Americans.

She said the billboard brings to her mind one of the most horrendous examples of that, the Wounded Knee Massacre on the Pine Ridge Reservation in 1890. Historical accounts say the 7th Cavalry had detained a band of Native Americans and asked them to give up their weapons. Troops began firing after a shot rang out. Death toll estimates of Native American men, women and children range from 150 to 300.

No but they are having people "shelter in place" while police run the streets and sending CPS workers into peoples homes to remove children for the sin of "wanted a second opinion"

They should be applauding it. I don't get the objection.

I've mentioned before that I regularly commute through what has been described as the nation's largest urban Indian reservation, and I see A LOT of pro-Indian stuff around here.

I searched for a copy but couldn't find an image, but a popular sticker round these parts says "Native American - the Original National Guard."

There is a fair acceptance that many Native Americans are pro-gun, so this bill board seems perfectly appropriate.

Yes...I am about 30 miles from the Lumbee reservation in NC. More guns there than you can shake a stick at.

Would you say the same thing to a rape victim? Lay back and take it so they don't kill you? Better asked, would you disapproove of someone who decided to fight anyway? Serious question. MOST places would call that person a hero.

You should study more world history, or history of conquest. You've picked a period of time and a place where the indigineous population was relatively sparse compared it to one where the indigineous population is relatively large...

The model for conquest for a large population is very different.

Having been on Pueblo land in New Mexico a few times now, I can tell you that the Native Americans there do not suffer from a lack of guns.

I know, not really relevant to this conversation, just throwing it out there.
