We can't get more people at the Met....the Met can't hold more people.
I should have predicated my statement with my earlier post, stating that if they expanded the stadium to fit 25,000 we should consider it. If the cap stays at 16,000 then it is obviously not an option. If they expand the stadium around either right or left field that would have both endzones and one full side of the field covered by stadium seating. The other side can have overflow bleachers and a camera stand that shows the field and (hopefully full) bleachers and it would still be functional for baseball.

That is not going to happen.

At any rate, moving FURTHER AWAY from campus is the absolute opposite of what needs to be happening. I get begged for money all the time, but if UAB plays a single game at the Met, and it's for any reason other than some natural disaster befell Legion Field, UAB will never see another penny of my money.

Legion Field is already a natural disaster, so I guess the Met meets your qualification.

No, just a man made one

No, UAB NEEDS AN OCS. Period. Fn period. It's BS but this is exactly the corner UAB has been backed into. Having to consider options like this that aren't really good options and are more like last resorts are exactly what the people who blocked the stadium proposal wanted. As far as McGee goes, the coach speak tune he had about the facilities does seem to have changed from when he arrived .

Wherever we play I will be there. I know one thing. If people protest and not go and spend money we will never get an OCS.

I can see UAB playing at Legion Field for the rest of this decade, at least. When we start winning, we will be glad for the seats.

ATTALLA - As our resident stadium construction authority, what do you think would be the best way for Regions Field to be enlarged to make it attractive / competitive to the SEC and the C-USA baseball tournaments? The skyboxes are already there, but what additional seating would be most cost-effective?

I'll go where they play, but as hard as it is to imagine, I'd like it less than Legion Field.

Agreed! Legion Field, from the perspective of the player, is a very good facility if the showers have hot & cold water. The field itself is top notch from what I hear. Most of the griping is concerned with fan accommodations like concessions, restrooms and those who direct parking. The players don't have to deal with ANY of these things.

For about 49 million I could turn that place into a state if te art 35k seat stadium.
I know the guy ho originally built it and structurally it was designed to support an upper deck to be expanded to a major league stadium.

3. Baseball sight lines suck for football.

Wrong but hey whatever. We have to simply stop with all this doomsday drama. The only good it does is give people like Finis ammo.

Look I don't want us to play down there but if it was done right and seating was increased to 30-35 K I can see where would then become a more viable option than legion Field. In its current state it is not a viable option.

How could it ever be seen as a good idea? It's a discarded minor league baseball field that isn't even a good soccer venue. The players hated the turf the last time they had the college cup there.

People joke about Legion Field, but we're in no danger of maxing out their logistical capabilities any time soon, and it looks like a real stadium because it is a real stadium. The Met would always look bootleg.

If it's the only option at some point, I'll be there, but I'll take Legion Field all day every day over the Met.

That being said, I'm happy Hoover is open to the idea, and I'd love to see a 9-3 season at any venue.

We do need better practice facilities. It rains occasionally.

I'd like to see the Met converted into a soccer facility. I think it could do well.

No, what is giving the idiots in Tuscaloosa ammo are UAB fans saying it's a good idea or that we "need" to play in Hoover. Hoover will never spend that kind of money on the Met, and if someone could come up with that much money why spend it there when it could be put towards an on campus stadium. Hell maybe we could just play all Thursday games and maybe they'll let us play at Bryant-Denny.

We wouldn't have to play on different days. UAB morning kick, Alabama night kick, or vice versa. Buy one get one free! Hell, we could even play each other and save the system the $1 million paycheck to to Mideast South Carolina Tech or whatever. Because we're all friends here, right guys? Right?

Thread: Hijacked.

Too small? How many crowds have we had that it would be too small for? 1 game per season? In 2012, every game outside of Troy would have fit. Looking at this year's schedule, what game scares you? Is it the powerhouse of Northeastern State? Or the Southern Miss game that's during the Iron Bowl?

Call me crazy... but what if it's still too big? What if UAB vs. Northeastern State, home opener is at the Hoover Met, "Announced" attendance of 10,500, actual attendance of 7,000, and the place is half empty? Egg meets face. That might be the real reason. We're scared of failure. Legion Field, as "bad" as it is, serves as a great ole crutch sometimes.
