Simply based on the program's horrible history... it's amazing how much we've progressed. So, this isn't Coach of the Year... Lebo is Coach of the YearS.

Both coaches did a good job and either could make a case for deserving the award.

I don't have an issue with Donnie Tyndall being Coach of the Year if he wins. There's a strong case for his choice.

I was just reacting to someone saying Pastner "underachieved."

RE: Who is your Coach of the Year?
Yeah, I'm not sure how you can go 27-4, 16-0 in conference and say you "under achieved". I can understand wanting to go perfect every season, but you can't realistically expect to be undefeated every year. Even the best teams have scares or close calls vs bad-mediocre teams, but good coaches pull out those wins usually. And that is what Pastner did this year in conference. The only semi head scratcher losses you had were Minnesota and Xavier-home. Minnesota was playing really well for the first half of the year (and they're still a 20 win team). Xavier isn't a bad team either.

I posted my sentiment previously and my answer to OP has been in the "I root for" for a few weeks now. There is no way anyone should be be upset if either of these guys win.

recruiting = % of coaching ability I am sick of some not getting that part of the equation. Hell, one could argue that making that type of talent gel could be tougher....just look at the Yankees (before anyone says anything, I know they get paid...still prima donnas)

Pastner is quality. MEM hoops is quality. Anyone that says different is living under a rock.

I also give credit to Manning and Lebo. This was actually one of the better years of CUSA hoops. Gotta also throw UTEP (HBG's own Timmy) as making this a good year.

16-0 is badass anyway you slice or dice it. I still want to play you guys and take you down! 04-cheers

And, Pastner did not do the recruiting, your arena and your name (Memphis) did. Do you really doubt that any coach in cusa with the facilities and of course the bkb name of Memphis couldn't have done the same thing? It's the same with school like Duke, Kenturkey, etc., kids don't care who the coach is they want to play in the best venue and Memphis has it.
Give me a coach like Haskins who didn't have any of those things and yet he did pretty well. Sorry, but if Pastner with the talent that Memphis has should be further up the standings and undefeated. Hey, we almost beat you with the mediocre talent that we have. Pffft, yeah right, Pastner 03-lmfao.

My lord...is it that hard to understand?

Memphis was predicted to finish 14-2....they finished 16-0.

USM was predicted to finish in the 4-12 or 6-10 range......they finished 12-4! with : 1. brand new coach 2. brand new system 3. least experienced team in the nation

Tyndall should be hands down the COY for CUSA.

YOU'RE KILLING ME SMALLS, YOU'RE KILLING ME!

Coaching a team to 16-0 in a conference that is #11 RPI when you were predicted to go 14-2 is not much of a surprise and doesn't merit COY in my opinion (and obviously many others).

UAB nearly beat Memphis in 08. Memphis had the #1 pick in the NBA draft and an All American. One game means nothing.

Memphis led Michigan St by 30 at halftime in the 08 tournament. I suppose this means Calipari is exponentially better than Tom Izzo?

Memphis fans are even giving Tyndall credit and none of us would have a problem with him winning. However, going undefeated in conference is a big deal. In 16 games, half on the road, things happen. Yep, Memphis finished only two games better than predicted. Considering they could only potentially win two games more than they were predicted to you have no way of telling how big of a leap they made.

All Memphis fans are saying is to not minimize what Pastner did this season. The team is 27-4 right now and lost ONCE since December 15.

I got two negative reps from this topic. That's pretty crazy, considering all I said was that I didn't think there was more than one option this year.

This forum is nuts. 03-lmfao

Well, when you say Pastner doesn't even recruit...that's just a dumb statement. Pastner and his staff are widely regarded as the hardest working recruiters in the game. He's going up against guys like Billy Donovan, Coach K, Bill Self, and Howland, and beating them out for players.

Oh boohoo hoo, cry me a river 03-weeping All the schools in cusa (and that's one reason cusa was so horrible) don't have that benefit. You do and yet barely beat teams like UTEPs who are far, far down on the talent. If we had one or two players that did not falter on the free throw line we would have beaten you. That alone tells me that your coach got outcoached with the (let me put it in letters that might make you see what I'm talking about) FAR SUPERIOR TALENT OF YOURS.

Sorry, but if Pastner reversed schools, Memphis to UTEP, he'd be down on the standings. Probably not even third seed.

If y'all had hit free throws...IF Memphis had hit free throws AND had DJ Stephens for the entire game.

One game means nothing. Floyd is a good in game coach, always has been. He also has a losing record vs Pastner.

Wow.

I wonder how in the world a player like DJ Stephens improved from having a scholarship offer pulled from UNT to become one of CUSA's highlighted players since all that happens on Highland Ave is opening the door for recruits to fight over a scholarship and roll a couple balls out for shooting practice.

I suppose Josh has to order a pizza or two every now and then also.

Same coach that got smoked twice by the rightful COY?

Right? Right?

jesus...you just don't get it, do you. Let me try this one more time...sigh.

Memphis....expected/predicted by MANY to run through C-USA like a steamroller!!!!......guess what...they DID!!!!

Southern Miss.....expected to SUCK by many in bball this year.....guess what......WE DON'T SUCK, in fact, we are REALLY GOOD!..we went 23-8 (14-2)...our RPI is #34, and we're a bubble team....not only did we accomplish all of that but it was w/ a brand new coach, system, and hardly anyone w/ d-1 experience. sigh. i can't be any more clear, has NOTHING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do w/ coaches records head to head.

You are right...they are right...and I don't pacify....

MEM gives us respect as we should give in return regarding the hoops forum....fight the other a-holes...they deserve it at times!

If a MEM poster comes with fb spaghetti soup sandwich...stir it like an Italian.

USM is better than this.....right now, you are giving EP (eagle crap) posers accreditation....

egriz is badass and and not a poser...just sayin'

I am just thankful that I can argue with fans of other schools instead of with fans from my school.

not sure what that means but...04-cheers and COGS and 04-rock

maybe I am skiddish right now....
