RE: GARY PARRISH SAYS
I have heard John Calipari say it is a recruiting issue.
I have heard Josh Pastner say it is a recruiting issue.
Both have built the foundation of their careers on recruiting. Both know mostly every advantage and disadvantage to be gained in recuriting.
Two of the best recruiters in the game who make millions of $$$$ on the ins and outs of recruiting are of the same opinion.
I will take their word over that of any fan, message board poster, or media hack.

A lie, told often enough, and loudly enough (radio and Newspapers), is perceived to be the truth.

'Yeah, you'll play in Memphis... Win against the Tigers? Uhhh.....'
utk has gotten ONE recruit out if Memphis in 20 years..how in the hell is this about recruiting?
Well, there's Stokes, PJ Prince, Dane Bradshaw, Tony Harris. That's 4 ... still not a very good track record though.
If for some stupid reason, you didn't want to play at Memphis and you are from Memphis, to me there are better options that are as close to home, or almost as close as Knoxville: Vandy, Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, hell ... Norman, OK isn't that much further than Knoxville.
stokes could not come to memphis
pj went to az.. then wanted totrsnsfer to Vandy ..only when he could get not get in did he go to utk
dane bradshaw was never offered at memphis..
harris is the only player in the last 20 years to choose utk over memphis
The OP only said that UT has gotten one recruit out of Memphis, it didn't say anything about whether or not the player could have come to Memphis, or whether or not Memphis recruited said player.

Yeah but the people on the street don't get paid to fill a radio show or to write an article. Also how many times have you heard any talking head apologize for saying something bad about a player, program or coach due to his own personal agenda or from some unsubstantiated info? For example an entire show Parrish did last year or so where the topic was "Can Pastner coach?" He repeatedly said this maybe 40 or 50 times during his 2 hour program, but added "I'm not saying this , but many are." If that is the case then why was he saying this every minute or so. Easy to answer. Because he can say it repeatedly without having to take the heat. Totally unnecessary to take the cheap shots in this manner.
Apologetic for saying it that many times on his show? Oh that's right he wasn't the one saying it. But the damage was done without any liability. Much the same as the posters who said that Pastner was now cheating when Geron went to the foul line in the Tenn game when Crawford was the one to be shooting, or that Geron and Chris had a covert agreement for Geron to shoot the foul. No need to be accurate just remove reality and insert your own version of what happened.

It's about selling air time. Lapides is the master. GP and Verno are the up and comers. Eli Savoie loves him some Ole Miss.

RE: GARY PARRISH SAYS
Could it possibly be revenue? I don't know what the average ticket value or advertising is for one game. But UT-Memphis is always sold out at UT or Mem. I can see where from a recruiting standpoint you come in and beat memphis at FEF it sends a signal that year, but that's not going to happen often. Memphis is always relevant in BB.

They couldn't lose Black..
They Really can't lose Austin Nichols .. after all his girlfriend goes to utk ...he is a shoe-in.....

Pearl never gave up. Total BS. You have one of the best hot beds of talent in your own state and you are going to try to pass it off as if a stubborn, manipulative, conniving, and dishonest person like Bruce Pearl just gave up???
Please son
Take a hike
You obviously didn't take my advice the last time I responded to this ignorance.

I love how people always throw this one out. TN never gets anyone from here (which isn't true). It's an irrelevant point. The question is. Is this series about recruiting from the vantage point of TN. I mean, Memphis may never have got a recruit out of little rock arkansas in the history of its program. THIS DOESN'T MEAN MEMPHIS WILL STOP RECRUITING LITTLE ROCK.
GET IT???

JP also said on the GP show last week that recruiting is not that big of a deal to him against UT as it was when he first took the job. He stated, that since he has been here, he has had two top 7 classes and the other two only had room for a couple of players. That being said, he doesn't look at UT as a threat.

Yes, we should care. We shouldn't do the University of Tennessee any favors what so ever. I don't care if its only to pick up left overs. Don't let them have them. We want the left overs going somewhere else. We should outlaw the color orange in its entirety within these city limits.

I thought it's all about football. Big payday there and big crowd at Memphis. Fill up our football stadium and we will play you home and home in hoops.
Maybe a SEC/Big East TV date for football?
