the Memphis/UT series isn't about recruiting.

Cuonzo Martin of TENN has recently been quoted as saying, he would settle for a game at a neutral site, but really prefers to play the game within the Memphis city limits.

so

with that said

is playing the game in Memphis about recruiting for TENN or?

discuss

It's about recruiting. Telling a Memphis kid you can play in your hometown is a solid enticement.

having said that, I'm not scared of the series. It's tough to pitch the kids Martin wants if we kick them every time.

'Yeah, you'll play in Memphis... Win against the Tigers? Uhhh.....'

I still don't understand why people still care about what Parrish, Vernon or Lapides say or think! Their opinion is just like anybody else's opinion that you meet out on the street

Well, they are in sports media, so theoretically their opinion is professional. And Parrish is a major media player at CBS, correct?

Having said that, it's relatively irrelevant. Play a good schedule, win as many as you can, entertain the fans, recruit the best kids you can, and the rest will take care of itself...

The order of opinion importance goes like this (worst to first)

8- a rock

7- an MT.ORG opinion

6- your dogs opinion

5- a complete idiots opinion

4- A woman's opinion

3- Parrish's opinion

2- A mans' opinion

1- Your own opinion

Their opinion is very different. Their opinion can MAKE a difference and be very influential in a negative way. I saw it happen with this very topic. He had a whole bunch of people thinking recruiting wasn't a major part of this series when considering the desire for it to continue from UT's vantage point.

I love how people always throw this one out. TN never gets anyone from here (which isn't true). It's an irrelevant point. The question is. Is this series about recruiting from the vantage point of TN. I mean, Memphis may never have got a recruit out of little rock arkansas in the history of its program. THIS DOESN'T MEAN MEMPHIS WILL STOP RECRUITING LITTLE ROCK.

GET IT???

COMPREHEND IT???

ITS ABOUT RECRUITING...

swallow it and digest it ok??

The keyword here is negative. These guys say negative or controversial things to get attention (no different than some MT.org posters) and do so for personal gain (keep callers and listeners tune in to their shows). The "inside" info they do have isn't earth shattering and most of it comes out anyway but they rush to be the first to say it to appear as the only people you should go to for Tiger/grizzlies information

I would probably respond to this pretty much the same way I responded to your previous comment. So, just read that one again.

Ok, let's get this right. I can play 20 plus games a year in front of my family and friends versus, one game every other year. It ain't about recruiting, who would want a kid that made his decision based on the above metrics?

The recruiting angle is lame.

As dumb as this argument is (and I know its humor influenced) its still the best argument I have ever heard on this subject.

Only to those who have not gone to school. Its covered in recruiting 101, don't give your opponent access to your talent base. I don't have to recruit against these guys, so I would play them and Ole Miss. It's always fun to beat snobs.

Well, there's Stokes, PJ Prince, Dane Bradshaw, Tony Harris. That's 4 ... still not a very good track record though.

If for some stupid reason, you didn't want to play at Memphis and you are from Memphis, to me there are better options that are as close to home, or almost as close as Knoxville: Vandy, Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, hell ... Norman, OK isn't that much further than Knoxville.
